  1. @dev

If you can take a Reliance connection, you can try relianceglobalcall, their charges are very reasonable and the talktime validity is for life time. More info at http://www.relianceglobalcall.com. You can use any reliance phone for using this - it can even be your neighbours phone. There is a PIN dialling, so you will not lose any balance. If you have an Android phone, you also have PIN less dialling, which you can activate if the phone is yours, but yes, the connection has to be RCOM - either RCDMA or RGSM.

Check the website or call TF 1800 200 1005 and see the ISD rates for various combinations and permutations. If you are happy, you can try it out.

  2. Thanks, RM done for now.... with 40420 as I am unable to open the link provided by you. Does it matter that I have to enter Chennai MCC-MNC codes or any code will do? I know this may be a stupid query because all India will have only one pricing in GPS, but still asking...

1 doubt - if we restart the mobile, then everytime do we have to re-set the MCC-MNC code? No workarounds for this?

    +1

  3. Does MTS provide GSM also? or is it that you had already got the international roaming SIM (GSM) from MTS? And does MTS provide international roaming in prepaid? RCOM till date does not provide IR on even RCDMA, leave alone RGSM both prepaid.

Secondly, if IR was not activated prior to departure, I think it may be difficult to activate it now. Maybe you will need copies of your brother's PP, Visa etc. RCOM insists on these at the time of IR activation. Maybe if you have all these copies also, you will further need authorisation from your brother in your favour to enable MTS to activate IR. Not too sure about MTS procedures... You will need to contact someone with more knowledge on MTS.

Finally, why not try Matrix or Uniconnect or Magellan or Reliance World SIM? All these are far, far cheaper than the current IR charges of any existing Indian cellcos. I visited Europe for 15 days in May 2012 and I used both Matrix postpaid and Uniconnect prepaid. At that time, Uniconnect offered free incoming, now they have started charging i/c. Matrix postpaid bill came to Rs 16.5k whereas I used Uniconnect for all i/c calls and my total prepaid bill came to Rs. 2.5k. I used up the TT on my Uniconnect as the Sales man told me not to bring back any balance. Even then, the call charges were very, very reasonable as compared to Matrix.

In your case, maybe you will have to apply for the connection in your name (but that's not possible as they will require Visas, PP etc) You can call the Matrix or Uniconnect guy over to your place and discuss it out.

    All the best.

You caught me on the wrong foot, Kanaga.... Thanks for pointing it out. Am growing older, ha ha ha....

You are absolutely right, I should have typed Rs. 0.001 per SMS instead of 0.001 paisa.

And your calculations are correct - I am indeed being charged 1 paisa for 10 SMS by the above SMS charges.

Yes and RCOM is definitely watching RW very very keenly. And after reading this, they will start charging Rs 10 per SMS (no typo now - ha ha ha) to recover the above losses.

  5. ^^^

    My personal experience:

I had Rs 19 SMS pack active on one of my RGSMs since the day it was launched. (It was earlier at Rs 11, now it is Rs 19 since the last one year or so)

On this RGSM number, I recharged with Rs 74 sometime on 19th June. I was earlier using the Rs 201 STV and my R2R balance was still available till 26th June, though my R2O balance was exhausted on 18th June itself.

Now after recharging with this new Rs 74 STV: -

1.All my local/national/roaming SMSs are still continuing at 0.001 paisa per SMS (it is not a typo, I am being charged that only - it is only one tenth of a paisa now as against the earlier 1 paisa per SMS)

    2. My local R2R old balance was still being utilised till yesterday night. I was not charged local R2R at 5 paise per minute. The only difference was that earlier usage was adjusted in seconds, now the usage was adjusted in minutes. But then who cares, more than 1500 R2R minutes were anyways being wasted by me.

    3. All my local R2O is being charged from the main account at 30 paise per minute.

    4. GPRS 2G available is 500MB per month for 6 months. (Is it 500 MB per month for 6 months or 500 MB for 6 months?)

    5. All subsequent recharges / top ups above Rs 10 are FTT for the next 6 months, I did a Rs 50 recharge on 19th June alongwith Rs 74 and instantly my main balance was upped by Rs 50, no time lag at all.

Now I would like to know if RCOM can reverse the above benefits at any point of time within 6 months. AFAIK RCOM, they introduce something with great fanfare and then withdraw it after some time, after finding that they have given more than they can viably offer. And it has happened so many times in the past, so I have a very strong feeling that some of the above benefits will definitely be withdrawn shortly.

Can anyone else confirm regarding all the above benefits - especially the GPRS and subsequent recharges? Are the details of Rs 74 STV available on RCOM's website?

    Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy while the sun shines.....

  6. Same plan 74 available for chennai / tn also. Benefit are:

    R2r 5ps pm local

    R2o 30ps pm local

    SMS 5ps

    Data 500 mb per month

All recharge above ten rupees will get full talk time.

All the above benefits for Rs. 74 for full six months only in home circle. Not applicable while roaming.

Seems to be a good offer. Available only for rgsm as of now. Rcdma offer will take some time.

CC says you cannot add any other rate cutters like Std or sms packs. Can others comment on this after talking to cc about the same?

    Enjoyyyhyyyy....

You can only make local calls using this Rs 201 pack, not any STD calls or SMS' For that, you have other packs also.

You can also check with CC for more info....

I do not think any other operator in India has anything better than this Rs 201 offering. Maybe other operators may be providing better offers elsewhere, but then, you have to factor in network availability and reliability also. Maybe I am wrong, but I am sure in Chennai/TN, this is the best offer.

Please allow RCOM also to earn some money, brother... Don't expect too much from them....As it is, they have almost Rs 35,000+ crores liabilities/losses, which they are trying to recover by selling off their towers business.

  8. Got a message on the Last Call Cost Notification on my Chennai prepaid RGSM about some new SMS pack which offers 3000 local and national SMS' for Rs 33, not too sure about roaming....Probably, RCOM has now joined the GSM Gangsters cartel, so they will also fleece you while roaming. And yes I am from Chennai, so no idea about the rest of the country. Check with CC for more info. And as usual, they will redirect you to visit the nearest WW for more news.

  9. UNBELIEVEABLE SITE

One of the most interesting sites I have ever seen. Just put your mouse on a city and the newspaper headlines pop up... Double click and the page gets larger....

    http://www.newseum. org/todaysfrontp ages/flash/

Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course). AND, this site changes everyday with the publication of new editions of the paper. Hope you enjoy this as much as I do.

The Newseum displays these daily newspaper front pages in their original, unedited form. Some front pages may contain material that is objectionable to some visitors. Viewer discretion is advised.

  10. 2 packs were delivered at my home about 10 days back when we were out of India. One pack contains Fusion Razor and the other pack contained Olay, Oxy Blue and a shampoo. The courier details are - shipped through Aramex but delivered locally by Repute Express.

I had almost forgotten and written off the samples as I had ordered them about a little less than 3 months back.

    Thanks Kamalbhai for your efforts.
