Indians don't like contract system...it leads to big time headache for both consumers and operators.. Are u willing to pay Rs.3000 every month for 2yrs???? We blindly cannot say that when americans pay 3k why can't we pay...it depends a lot on purchasing power.

^^ Why don't u guys understand that $199 and $299 are the prices with contract. Which means they will have to pay Rs.10,000 initially and ~Rs.3000 every month for 2 years!!! Same thing goes for iPhone 8GB also..its price is not $99!! This model will cost ~20k in india...

^^I guess the Karantaka number is wrong.Iam getting the message "The Tata indicom number u have called is invalid.......blah..."same message when i dial from Vodafone mobile and Airtel Landline...

But think about the numbers. How many are will be purchasing a handset Rs.20,000,that too in CDMA? The number will be VERY VERY less which again depends on your marketing. Also the consumers buying such an expensive mobile will not like to change their number.Though this problem might be eradicated with the introduction of MNP.

People are hesitant to invest heavy money in CDMA handsets...Just take an example of Virgin Mobile India..even with amazing brands and big time promotion...it coudnot get many subscribers. Only reason behind this is bcoz it runs on CDMA network..

I support ur idea..But i guess we need an investement interms of crores... But...CDMA itself is a flop stuff..and MVNO in CDMA will be a super duper flop... MVNO in GSM with new operators is a much much much better idea than MVNO in CDMA..

I don't understand why you people are giving so much importance to Raja's Statements! He became a minister...so he has to say some thing to the media....so he said these unrealistic charges....Thats it. It doesn't matter whether it is feasible or not... The only thing i want from him is to Auction the 3G spectrum faster...hopefully before other countries get 33G.... He is an unqualified person for this post.

^^ Iam pretty sure that they will launch the services in June. yes,they are planning to use new brand name for GSM services.It will be a cobranding of Tata and NTT DoCoMo. So this might be the reason for the delay.

I think we can register either Airtel or Vodafone no and check both the numbers acc usage using a single site... This kinda facility is available with few banks like HDFC,HSBC etc...

@thinkpositive, Virgin will also start its GSM service on Tata's Network as they are doing in CDMA. So Tata's GSM launch will mean 2 new mobile operators

Also these high niche subscribers(especially urban youth) look for good brand name/image. So having a good brand will help them a lot in getting high value subscribers... Hope they offer good data plans as they have in CDMA.... At present none of the GSM operators offer decent data tariffs.

WOW! I expected this! Tata Indicom doesn't have that good brand image as compared to others like Vodafone or Airtel or Idea. Launching GSM with diff brand name is a brilliant idea. I guess they will have something like "Tata DoCoMo"

I have purchased a new Reliance GSM SIM. These are some of the problems iam facing(its just been ~3hrs from the time of purchase!): 1. I unable to recieve calls from Airtel Landline Number as soon as enter 959......., its says "Invalid Number"! 2. Cannot access GPRS. 3. Customer Care number to toooo busy. Have to hold on for long time to speak to a CCExecutive. Somehow i managed to speak to a person and he told me that, there are Network Problems in Bangalore city dude to congestion Anyone else facing these problems?

Actually there is one interseting aspect in this i.e when Tata starts their GSM service, it will be 'TWO; new operators and not 'ONE'..!!!!! Bcoz, when Tata's GSM is started, Virgin will also launch thier service on Tata's network... So that will be 2kills in one shot

The last line is the important one... Vodafone was not operating in as many circles as Airtel...But now they do!! And i kinda feel Vodafone's tariff's and Brand value is much more dynamic than Airtel's which will help Vodafone big time...

But the real fun will start when they launch GSM services... and introduction of MNP will spiceup the things more..

Even iam very eagerly waiting for the Tata GSM. They have the best pricing for Voica and Data(free browsing in mobile,etc.) in CDMA and i hope they offer the same value even in GSM and not to forget they have Very good CDMA network.

I guess Tata is the only operator in India who still offers Internet Access(All websites) on Mobile for FREE!!

Tariffs are not at all attractive that too its new operator and top of that its CDMA!! When people are not intersted in buying Virgin itself which pays us 10p/incoming call, now why should anyone purchase this..?? Now the consumers are quite well educated about mobile services/technologies and everyone knows that CDMA is a headache!

I have already dumped Reliance GSM and continued using my old Vodafone Connection! Damn now i feel Vodafone Rocks!

Its more than 10 days and not even a SINGLE problem has been solved. Iam using Vodafone & Reliance. I never ever had any problem with Vodafone from 3yrs....but there Customer Service was Outstanding. Whereas i ALWAYS have problem with Relaince from past 10 days.....but there Customer Care is just hopeless...we can't even compare it with BSNL's CC. It worst than that. 99% of the time i get the message "Number is Busy"... So my review of Reliance GSM(Bangalore) after 10 days of usage.Only one word will describe just "HOPELESS" I will rate it 2/10.

Can we use some Alphabets in the caller ID?
