Also I forgot to mention, even in US real data users prefer CDMA-EVDO over GSM-3G. I heard about many people who switched to GSM for handset got fed up and reverted to CDMA. In US they give handsets at better prices and also better handsets than what we get. Though handsets are locked, they are not crippled like India. Infact I think future of CDMA is bleak in India. Configuration in CDMA is damn too complicated. China Unicom took 2 years to develop process of updating PRL of RUIM over the Air SMS. In India, reliance is still not able to provide international roaming on all RUIM enabled handsets. Because they can not configure it properly.

CDMA stategy has to be handset driven as they are locked. Ofcourse reliance has been torch bearer for telecom revolution in India and what they offered is best for given situation. Joking about price is personal preference but quality is definately a matter. There is no point selling product which do not function as it should because person could not afford expensive handsets. Even Nokia is selling substandard handsets in India. Handset prices are cheapest in India, even cheaper than China at the same time quality too is cheapest, even cheper than cheapest. If you read SAR data then you will realize that SAR for Indian phone is atleast twwice higher than phone sold in US, reason chaper handsmeans they can not afford to use expensive shielding metals. Also since there are no regulation, they just dont bother to provide good product. Else how nokia can ask to give handset for atleaset 2-3 weeks for minor repairs? why reliance and tata are selling handset of manufacturers who provide such poor services? Because every one is interested in selling cheap product then let consumer suffer. Indian consumer too is such a stupid consumer, who goes for just price nothing else. Becasue of this I have stopped buying Indian handsets in CDMA, I import from US or buy handsets made for US and make it to run on reliance.

CDMA globally do not have varieties like GSM handsets because of operator locking and patent issues. Now since reliance has opted to promote classics it will remain dream and US operators are not going for RUIM to protect their profits, means we will not get good handset from US too. China Unicom handsets are RUIM based but they focus more on GSM and has entry and mid range handsets in their basket.

Battery life is typical question, when I switched over from XV6600 to 6700, I was used to get 36 hours of standby Plus about 150-180 min of talk time, 50% brighness, backlit off after 15 seconds, screen off after 60 seconds, with deteriorating networks, when I switched over to 700P I was used to get 24 hours + 90-100 min talk time. With 700P, BT ON, 60 mins TT and 12 hours, 50% brighness, screen off after 15 seconds, battery discharge to about 70%. Means I may get upto 200+ min of TT and 36 hours stand by. Power management seems to be better or may be due to 1800 mAH battery over 1350 mAH battery (almost 50% fatter battery). Now I do not discharge battery fully. I charge battery in my car, office when ever I get chance.

Every operator has their way of implementing AT commands, not all nokia will work on MOTO

One more piece of information: Since 700P do not have WIFi, I was tying co connect it to BT LAN and it does creat BT LAN connection with my Laptop, hence I can connect to net free of cost while am in office. I never tried this on PPC 6700 so cant say about it.

This must be true for ever one and do they really deduct those subscribers from list or just keep on adding new? Reason is my old disconnected postpaid numbers were there on reliance directory even after 6 months. Ofcourse I have not checked now, may be they have improved.

In gujarat, they have or had recharge option of 1100 where u get 1400 TT and BSNL2BSNL : 0.3 LL & Others 0.60. Validity 4 months. You can addon as many vouchers as you want and it keeps on adding validity, means recharge with 3 voucjer, u get 12 months validity. My father is using it.

may be if there is PDF file reader, then convert them to PDF and transfer to phone to read. go to getjar.com and search you may find something, OR create JPEG and read on phone

Also this I will suggest this handsets to people who are interested in lowcost ($ 150 on ebay with bad ESN) PDA with excellent battery backup, excellent screen resolution to view movies, due to larger battery it can run longer, resolution makes it pleasure. Also network performance is really good. Due to poor network in my office, PPC or my partners LG drops calls very easily, where as I have not a single call dropped after 700P. Email and PC Sycronization is far superior than PPC. One need not to worry about hard rest, it restore every thing including mails, SMS, call log, programs, every thing. But it has no multithreading capabilities. Certain functionalities are better than PPC. To get 90-95% of PPC functionalities FEEL one need to install following softwares: 1. MegaLauncher / Zlauncher (To get today screen) 2. Takephone (To get smart dial like functionality) Basic built in calender is better than PPC. Browser is very poor. I can not log on to Ebay / yahoo / my companies Web mail. I tried with operamini 4 beta too. It hangs quite often. For that you need to install JVM, with JVM it supports JavaMidlet or J2ME means you can install java games. I have not tried games or any other things except operamini. Built in E mail client is better than PPC's but snappermail is substitute to Outlook express. Very customizable. Ringtones, volume are better than PPC. MP3 ringtone requires third party softwares. Documents to Go, supports, .doc, .xls, .ppt and .pdf and it is surprising that it supports them better than MS office mobile. Keypad is used more because its accessible any time. However PPC keyboard is bigger so more comfortable. Looking at PALM 5 OS I feel they have been too lethargic after developing really good OS, palm 4 on 7135 was not as good. Hence never bothered to upgrade OS to new age requirements. If I have to compare this with WM5, then except of Multitasking, PALM os is better than WM5 its Faster, stable. camera do not have flash, but screen brighness can wok as torchlight. Most mobile flash is used as torch light only. Camara on Treo said to be better than PPC, I seldom use it so dont know. Audio quality of music is at PAR. No wifi so some one may miss it. Bluetooth is easier and better than PPC. But no stereo support. One important area where Treo is lacking, no T9 or prdictive text input like PPC or ordinary phones. Softwares are smaller so main memory remains free for stability and speed

I have one and hetal may have one. Hetal may want sell it. I do not want to sell. But FYI it costed me USD 190 (INR 7600) + 2400 Shipping + 2100 cusotms and octroi. Total 12000 brand new with cable, handsfree, box. If got shipped intelligently (not foolish way like me), then shipping could be as low as US $ 30 and max 1000 for customs (no octroi in other cities). Also on ebay you get it for as low as US $ 150 (Means your total cost may not exceeds 9K) worth for this handset.

I think for next few months till Portability and 3G policies are finalized in CDMA high end phones will be restricted. Now wait for EVDO phones in CDMA and may be GSM in reliance.

Palm Treo 700P is adoptable to Reliance and with BAD ESN on ebay it cost about US $ 150-180

To switch from one NAM to another NAM you have to reboot phone. It seems now reliance is not checking NAM number from handset. So you can ideally activate two numbers on same handset, but reliance will not as it activate only one number per ESN. Phone is authorised to network with ESN so unless your ESN + MIN pair mathces it can not be used on network. ESN changing is illegal.
