  1. Agreed, no modem can send more than 50-60 SMS per minute. But it depends, like if we take and example of Nokia 6155, with AT command and 160 char message it takes whooping 20 seconds. I tested this by compiling message as mentioned in their document in note pad and then pasting it to hyper terminal. However it depends on application. Web based SMS services are not very cheap also when you look at enterprise solutions of any mobile operatore, they charge atleast Rs. 0.60 to 1.0 for SMS. Same is with most SMS gateways. And howmany application we really know, which sucessfully sends SMS using CDMA handsets? It could be useful for many especially say a person takes contract of small company, where he has to send say 5000 to 10000 SMS per month. He can do so using this modem. He may change RUIM for another number for another company. Remember, there is a good business potential, I am really not into this type of business and once I get concrete information about hardware, I am going to share it with all. Its just an idea to many members who can exploit their contacts and information to make money. Remember there are hardly few thousand members here out of few millions users. SO majority of mass is not as informed as you are and that is where business arises from. Its good going here. I appreciate such brain storming.
  2. I sopke to vendor who is ready to give software for free. I have asked for evaluation copy to see functionalities. Lets wait for a while. According to me, if hardware supports standard AT commands like GSM handsets, then software is not a big issue. Issue is the way SMS is implemented in CDMA and the way CDMA is hiding functionalities from users.
  3. Some Doubts Regarding to RAM

    this may interesting http://www.rselby.net/
  4. There are hardware available which uses RUIM and can be used to send SMS using computer. Because I was negotiating with people who can supply such hardware and since members were asking for means and ways to send SMS (bulk) I thought it right to ask opinions about willingness to spend. Such hardware cost as high as high end handsets. Such cost is only in CDMA. GSM is much cheaper. Infact in GSM one does not require special hardware, many nokia phones can do job.
  5. Anyone Who Can Fwp To Fwt Cdma 19mhz

Copying ESN is illegal so better do not indulge. Alternatively try to find devices with RUIM support. Its legal.
  6. No its not RUIM and reliance will not activate. I know people who wants to use this on BSNL. so if at all u wanna sell let me know.
  7. Rightly said Munna, every one want things for free. They do not realize the cost of opportunity. One has to use services smartly, there is always a way out. It must be remembered that wether CDMA / GSM, no modem can send more than 50-60 SMS per minute.
  8. Hello - I am interested in what you can do for this - Please add me at naga_saki1945@hotmail.com I think all 6600 has RUIM socket connections. Its a matter of flashing with RUIM software and soldering of SIM socket. The only way to do it is to send handset to me. Remember I do not promise that it will be done for sure as not done so far. But if done, I am not interested to charge any thing. I will just flash it and send it back. If I will get SIM socket soledred (Which in no case will be done by me) I will charge for what ever I am chargeed for sim socket soldering
  9. No I am getting offer for CDMA modem with RUIM which supports sending SMS using computer. So any one who is wnating to send SMS can use this hardware, I am still negotiating for prices. I know there are many RIMwebians who wants this solution but some how people are not ready to spend. Despite the fact that there is huge business potential. I do not know about policies. This could be useful for DAPO customers.
  10. Usually I am not the type who speaks too much about my experiances but with RIMWEB I think there are many members who are sensible enough to share my experiances with them. One need not to give any introduction of this asian dragon as globally we are compared with china for its size, population and calibre, also for social and economic problems. Ofcourse I visited only 3 cities in China and it can never give any one a total idea of what they are and why they are so. What we might be knowing a bit but why is largely unknown due to various reason few of them are that we think that we are far ahead of china or may be we do not want to accept the fact that they are far ahead of us. Aparently china is just a country with far superior infrastructure. Indeed they have infrastructure we are no where nearer. Just to give an example, I saw total 3 airports (Guanzhou, Beijing, Shanghai) , all of them were so huge that our bombay or Delhi airports are not even 1/4th of them. If you see quality of work and work culture, they have reached far. I travelled by train (Beijing to Shanghai), 1600 KMS, in just 12 hours. It was non stop train departing at 1919 PM and reaching 0721 AM. Both times were within minute variations. While travelling I saw that they have trains like us too. Wooden berths, over crowded etc. But over all station management was far superior than us. Only passengers are allowed on platform. Thats why they can manage it better. Over all cost of living in China is much higher than us. FOr example 600 ml wate bottle in super market will cost about 1.5 RMB (1 RMB = Rs. 6 , Approx) and same bottle will cost between 5 to 10 RMB outside. Beer was cheaper than water. Average minimum salary is about 80 RMB / Day. This is government regulation and it is followed atleast in urban areas. I dont know about rural areas. I visited 2 factories and saw that their factories are much cleaner (Over all its very clean country), well organized and people with high productivity. Places I visited, I saw that of total work force atleast 35-45% were women. Overall women participation in economic activities is much higher. On other hand they have male-female ratio as adverse as ours 937 female against 1000 male. This figure is told by guide so I dont know how genuine it is. They too prefer baby boy over girl child. But chinese people are very beautiful. Atleast as per them people who are origially chinese. People with mongol blood are not so beautiful. They got excellent dressing sense and are very professional. Best part is even if they cheat you, they will be very point blank, they will not tell you why fellow business person is cheaper or will never rundown competetor. This is one thing we need to learn. TO give you an example, I bought 1 MP4 player of 1 GB. Usually cheap chinese players have hacked memory and when they say 1 GB. It is usually 1 Giga bit. not 1 gigabyte. I met manufacturer who quoted me US $ 35 for 1 GB (Genuine memory size) but in market it was available for US $ 30 (Hacked memory) nbut genuine manufacturer will only say we cant be so cheap because our quality is different. THey will not utter a single word why they cant go so low. BEAWARE WHILE BUYING IT IN INDIA TOO. Cellular services there are just superb but atleast 4-5 times expensive than India. Even incoming is charged in CHina. Prepaid incoming in home city (not circle) could be around Rs.3-5 per minute so for out going. Roaming charges are almost twice as much. Two companies which are there in China, china unicom and china mobile. China Mobile is government company with GSM network and China Unicom is privately owned company with CDMA and now GSM network too. China Unicom is more expensive than Mobile and now they too emphasise on GSM rather than CDMA. Their CDMA network was as good as GSM, because I was roaming on CDMA network and had China Mobile Prepaid GSM sim, given by my tour operator with 30 RMB balance. China mobile seems to be too big then China Unicom. I was surprised to see China Mobiles "MOBILE NETWORK WAN" nearer to exhibition ground, when I inquired they said, incase of emergencies of when there is crowd, they setup temporary network cells so that network is not congested. I asked about the same for CDMA network, they said they have not seen. Language is very big issue for foreigners, when you go to hotel, every hotel has their card in chinese language, which passenger must pick up and keep with them, else there is no way one can reach back hotel by taxi. Unless if you are too lucky and find someone knowing and understanding our english, who translate and explain it to taxi driver. But at the same time there is no social devide due to english. We have created big social devide due to language. I mean we think that one who knows english is superior to one who does not. Infact due to this type of attitude I have seen many people who do not prefer to communicate with people who does not know english. In china they too have 3 language and 20 dialect. Not as many as us. Also due to lack of english knowledge brain drain from china is far less than us. Here I am not intend to underestimate importance of English in our country but brains are not only with english sopeken people. It is that our systems gives more opportunities to english spoken people and that is the reason )Probably) there are many innovative and capable people could not reach to main stream easily. Here mainstream is people who can influence over all system decisions. Another thing which was great to learn from them was they were not ashamed of their limited or no english knowledge. I met a CEO of small company (as per them) of about 500 crore turn over, that gentleman took 3 minutes to tell me that they are using magnet in their product. He took out his PDA, type it in chinese and then will show me tranlation "MAGNET". Even in exhibition wwhich is named as CHINA EXPORT COMODITY TRADE FARE" where no localites are allowed to enter. Foreign visitors with passports are only allowed, there you dont find many people who can speak english as good as us. I think this is my longest post till now on RIMWEB. WIll continue further if members are interested to know more and ofcourse what I write here is my point of view. Differrences are inevitable. I welcome your questions and querries, I will try to reply if I have seen or observed.
  11. Yes communism has its advantages too. Say for example, when I spoke to guide about the way they are changing shanghai for world expo in 2010, they removed many old buildings to widen roads and beutifying city. He said once government decides and gives you package (150 mtr house for 100 mtr ouse in some other area) you have no option but to accept it. If you refuse you loose that package too. As far as productivity is concern, politics has a role to play. But politics alone can not change mindset. It is desire to grow can only change. That is the reason if we look at mumbaikars, they have desire to grow and they have better productivity than any other city. While talking to people there they even do not remember comminism. Even mao is not remembered so much. There are few photos of him. Taxation in china icome tax is from 10% to 45%. Domestic economy too is so big, atleast in urban areas, which I have seen. They have huge disposible incomes due to 1 child policy and female participation in economic activities. In shanghai, there was a street few 100 meters away from my hotel, it was like linking road of mumbai. On sunday, morning 1030, most shops and malls were full of people and shopping. Even on week days, at 930 night, shops were full. 20% foregners rest localites.
  12. About Foods in CHina Just like any other country of the world, china does not have concept of vagetarian and non vegetarian food. They eat food with meat, fish, eggs etc. I heard that there are people who do not eat meat products and foods are available for them too. But it was very difficult to find and know because of language. I visited 2 McDonalds and there they were not having menu in English. In Pizza hut they had one pizza which was vegetarian. While coming back from great wall of china, there is government restaurant, which serves free lunch to all visitors to great wall. There I could request veg food and they served. What we eat in India as chinese food is Indian Chinese. Original chinese food is very plain and because of spices they use, it smells very different. We find it stinking, the way they find our food stinking. There are Indian restaurants and there you get real good Indian food. They serve even veg food. First time visitors, I think better they go with some travel agency rather than going on their own. We have a myth that chinese eat everything including insects, snakes etc. Infact in China only cantonese people eat all such stuff. Non cantonese do not eat even dog, they eat chicken, mutton, fish, beef etc. Cantonese are mainly in Hong Kong and regions closer to hang kong in CHina. Since I am from Industrial back ground my interest for outsourcing and IT was very limited. So I never bothered to inquire about it. They say they are catching up with English, but I wonder how true it is. Because when I was in beijing, where there will be Olympics in 2008, just about 600-700 days left, I could not find people who can speak english. Even in 4 star hotels there will be may be 1 or two person who really can communicate in english. That too if that person is in India, we will say he does not know english. They speak english like newbie. Infact they do not seems to be in need of learning english. They seems to be very confident about the fact that world needs them more than they need world. They have created might which is endorsed and realized by world. They are pround of their country, language etc. They have adopted western professionalism. Just to give an example, they will have shop and coffee shop temple in next rooms of buddha rooms. Even they will demonstrate you say how pearl or silk is porduced (When you go to factory outlets) and then sell stuffs atleast 2-3 times expensive than other shops. But htis way they generate confidence that you get only genuine stuffs. Average chinese has good respect for Indians, they are greatful to India for Buddhism and martial arts. They say Indians are our brothers. I dont know how true it is. But I spoke to 3 people who said the same thing. Though they have more connections with westerners and they understand importance of westerners, they do not respect westerners as much as they respect Indian. They seems to have learnt good things from westerners like cleanliness, punctuality (Very punctual in time), productivity etc. At the same time they have larger faith in their own religion, arts and crafts. Their clothing absolutely westrnized but not food. I saw most people prefered fruit juice or tea or coffee over pepsi and coke even in McDDonalds or pizza huts. On road side shop, pepsi and coke is available but juices and water is sold more than them. We Indian has a notion that Chinese produce cheap stuff at cheaper prices. Thats not true, for example, I got quotes for particular vacuum cleaner model from US $ 14 to US $ 41. Same model same specs. Europeans and american will show more interest in higher end companies, who gives what they specify and Sounth asian people will show interest and still bargain them down to may be $ 12. So they get such product. If you see US $ 41 vacuum cleaner, similar spec vacuum cleaner is sold in India for 4.5-6K under Indian brandname and cheap stuffs are sold in tele marketing. I believe that India can compete china in manufacturing segment too. India too can produce quality stuff at comparable prices (Except electronic stuff).. Provided keep volumes and global market in mind.
  13. Just adding to this - I got the chance to see the device first hand(it was on display at Mobile Asia in Delhi a few weeks ago) - you get a lot of freebies too - there is a Car Charger and a 256 MB mini SD card free with the device and also unlike the GSM version you get a desktop charging cradle inside the box. (So in a sense you get accesories worth close to 4-5K free) My cousin has been using the same UTStarcom PPC6700 with Sprint in USA for a few months now - its an amazing peice - finally i can get a piece of him too Also, I noticed that Reliance device comes with the latest AKU 2.2 addition to Windows Mobile 5.0 - so actually the OS is trully latest and for the first time Reliance is giving its customers something fresh and brand new the world over - Cheers! Another cool thing from Reliance - Check out the data plans on this phone - you get unlimited data for 999/month (with the kinds of data speeds available on CDMA getting unlimited data for 999 is an amazing offer) I think there are 2 other packages for 499 and 650/month also. Fast Internet on the move wherever! Its equivalent to carrying a laptop with a datacard in it. Where is this phone featured on reliance site?
  14. Motorola Cdma Handset

Hi, The fact is that Reliance knows very well that for increasing mobile density(RIM) in India you have to sell the phone to common people who earns 2000 to 3000 in a month. These people are not bothered about either Motorola or Nokia or LG. For them the cheapest one is the best. May be when they upgrade they may go for a high end handset. But by the time you already captured the market. Once you are in the net of Reliance it is not easy to get out. Therefore they are not bothered about these good or fancy handsets now. Their present mantra is to capture the market. Regards I will say that reliance is the only company who knows how to capture India market. They may be selling cheap phones, but as vijayji said, thats the way one can reach to mass. Class only never pays. Mass makes you safer, not class. Class always keeps you on toes.
  15. Spc For Nokia 1255

Then its difficult, because then you need special hardware and cables. Is RUIM based? Then you can slip into RUIM supported phone and find out.
  16. Its indeed a good handset but it will not have 1. RUIM support. 2. Smaller screen than 6600. But thats why it has better battery life than 6600. Because its windows mobile 5, it has its own problem (typically microsoft) It has 65K screen so display quality is definately poorer than new 262K screens. Also in PDA can not keep contrast and brightness as high as mobiles, so quality of display is always inferior than mobiles. For people who talks a lot, need atleast 1 spare battery, else bttery in no case last more than 100 minutes of talk time. Data connection consumes 1.5 to 2 times as much. Because its windows 5, it has better memory management (non volatile contact, appointment etc) than windows 2003 but has more bugs than 2003. I wonder how stable OS will be when reliance specify its own requirements. Reliance can make even nokias absolutely unstable. UTstarcom is not producer of this phone, its manufactured by HTC. So no quality issues. All windows mobile phones in world sofar wether imate, o2, hp except yuolong and asus are manufactured by HTC only. I think 33K is a good price but then frankly just like any other CDMA phone, this is obsolete. I am using 6600 that too was obsolete since long. I wonder if reliance let EVDO present in phone (It cost money to them). Also implementation of EVDO is too far. And I think when EVDO will be implemented, BSNL/MTNL will have already implemented WIFI/WIMAX at better prices than 3G.
  17. AT Commands & SMS Software

ASCII While most people think of numbers as the primary grist for the computing mill, more character data is stored in computers than any other kind. Character data in a computer is always stored as a simple substitution cipher: each character is assigned a binary number which represents the character inside the computer. Over the years, a number of character codes have been used. These include BCD (Binary Coded Decimal), Fieldata, ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), EBCDIC (Extended Binary Coded Decimal Interchange Code), Unicode and others. Of these, ASCII has become the de facto standard because of its widespread use in personal computers. The following table gives the hexadecimal character codes used by ASCII to represent characters inside the computer: 00 = NUL 01 = SOH 02 = STX 03 = ETX 04 = EOT 05 = ENQ 06 = ACK 07 = BEL 08 = BS 09 = HT 0A = LF 0B = VT 0C = FF 0D = CR 0E = SO 0F = SI 10 = DLE 11 = DC1 12 = DC2 13 = DC3 14 = DC4 15 = NAK 16 = SYN 17 = ETB 18 = CAN 19 = EM 1A = SUB 1B = ESC 1C = FS 1D = GS 1E = RS 1F = US 20 = space 21 = ! 22 = " 23 = # 24 = $ 25 = % 26 = & 27 = ' 28 = ( 29 = ) 2A = * 2B = + 2C = , 2D = - 2E = . 2F = / 30 = 0 31 = 1 32 = 2 33 = 3 34 = 4 35 = 5 36 = 6 37 = 7 38 = 8 39 = 9 3A = : 3B = ; 3C = < 3D = = 3E = > 3F = ? 40 = @ 41 = A 42 = B 43 = C 44 = D 45 = E 46 = F 47 = G 48 = H 49 = I 4A = J 4B = K 4C = L 4D = M 4E = N 4F = O 50 = P 51 = Q 52 = R 53 = S 54 = T 55 = U 56 = V 57 = W 58 = X 59 = Y 5A = Z 5B = [ 5C = \ 5D = ] 5E = ^ 5F = _ 60 = ` 61 = a 62 = b 63 = c 64 = d 65 = e 66 = f 67 = g 68 = h 69 = i 6A = j 6B = k 6C = l 6D = m 6E = n 6F = o 70 = p 71 = q 72 = r 73 = s 74 = t 75 = u 76 = v 77 = w 78 = x 79 = y 7A = z 7B = { 7C = | 7D = } 7E = ~ 7F = DEL Codes with a hexadecimal value less than 20 16 are called "control characters". These were used in the past for teletype and pre-LAN communications protocols, and only a few have much relevance today. Of these, the (carriage) return ("CR") and the line feed ("LF"), or new line, are of particular interest. Despite the proliferation of proprietary and internationalized document formats, ASCII text remains the only universally understood character data format. Even so, designers of computer operating systems such as UNIX, Macintosh and Windows cannot seem to agree on something as simple as how to designate the end of a line of text in a file. UNIX systems denote the separation between lines of text with a new line character; Macintosh systems use a return, and Windows systems use both. This means that when transferring text files between various systems, one sometimes finds that the destination system interprets the file as containing a single line. Of course, filtering programs have been written to account for the differences, but the problem remains an eloquent argument that a little standardization can be a good thing. It is important to note that ASCII is a case-sensitive code: there are separate character codes for upper and lower case characters. As a result, the phrase I will always pay attention to case when I use ASCII! is encoded in hexadecimal as: 49 20 77 69 6C 6C 20 61 6C 77 61 79 73 20 70 61 79 20 61 74 74 65 6E 74 69 6F 6E 20 74 6F 20 63 61 73 65 20 77 68 65 6E 20 49 20 75 73 65 20 41 53 43 49 49 21 and not as: 49 20 57 49 4C 4C 20 41 4C 57 41 59 53 20 50 41 59 20 41 54 54 45 4E 54 49 4F 4E 20 54 4F 20 43 41 53 45 20 57 48 45 4E 20 49 20 55 53 45 20 41 53 43 49 49 21 (which of course was in all upper case: check it!). You should also be aware that the key codes generated by a keyboard as you type are not the same as the ASCII codes above. The codes generated by your keyboard are translated into ASCII by the keyboard controller hardware in your computer. As you can see from the ASCII table, only 7 bits are used in the hexadecimal character codes: they range in value from 0 to 7F 16. In contrast, BCD is a 5 bit code, Fieldata is a 6 bit code, EBCDIC is an 8 bit code and Unicode is a 16 bit code. Since computers store character data using one byte for each character, when ASCII is stored the most significant bit of each byte is 0. This bit is sometimes used for a rudimentary form of error checking when ASCII data is transferred between computers. Parity The "parity" of a byte of data is defined as "odd" or "even" depending on the number of bits in the byte which have a value of 1. When transferring data between computers using ASCII, the most significant bit of each byte can be arbitrarily set to either 0 or 1 in order to force each byte to have odd or even parity. As long as both computers agree on which type of parity is being used, transmission errors in which only one bit of data is transferred incorrectly can be detected by checking the parity of each byte transferred. So for example, if the two computers agree that all data is to have odd parity and one computer sends an upper case A 41 16 (0 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 2), the actual value sent will be C1 16 (1 1 0 0 0 0 0 1 2). If instead the two computers agree that all data is to have even parity, the upper case A will be sent unchanged. It is important to note that parity is not a very good error detection mechanism. If an even number of bits are corrupted during transmission the error will not be detected. For instance, if our upper case A with odd parity is received as 01 16 (0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2) or as C716 (1 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 2), the incorrectly transferred byte still has odd parity and will be accepted as correct. More robust error detection mechanisms include checksums, CRC (Cyclical Redundancy Check) and ECC (Error Correction Codes), all of which are outside the scope of this text. This concludes the chapter on data representations and computer arithmetic. We turn now to several topics which have little or nothing to do with numbers, beginning with logic. 11 AT Commands for Java™ SMS 11.1 AT+CMGS Send an SMS Message This command is used to send an SMS message. The following parameters are used: • <dest_num_len>: destination phone number length (1 byte) • <dest_num>: destination phone number • <encoding>: message encoding type (1 byte) • <user_data_len>: user data length (1 byte) • <user_data>: user data (Java SMS tag “wma://” should be part of user data if you wish Java SMS application to receive the SMS) All the above parameters are in HEX. For example: AT+CMGS=0A38353838333135353535020454455354. The destination phone number is: 8588315555 and the user data is: TEST. Above post shows that how SMS can be sent using nokia handsets with AT commands. One can make small applicaitiion which then communicwith handset to send SMS.
  18. All About Nokia 6265

rates are really mind blowing. I never used R WORLD so not aware, never expected such high rates for such poor content.
  19. I use simple procedure, In my nokia while roaming I block all calls except one in phone book.
  20. Anyway To Access Wap On Nokia 6255

Then how come it can be accessed in RUIM enabled handsets? Means it has database of RUIM for WAP access but that too means that if you swap handset with same RUIM, WAP should not work????
  21. Anyway To Access Wap On Nokia 6255

try tweaking your phone with WAP settings of 6265 or 6155, it may work. I dont know how WAP is provided on 6265, I have PRI file but when I see it there is no change except for SSA key and handset profile page. Since 6265 is RUIM based I dont know how they control authentication to server.
  22. Is Wap Working Again?

When WAP wasworking in past, I tweaked my phone using my mobile number as Username and password for loging. That time I was not charged for R WORLD charges for sites I visited using opera and flurry mail. Now I can not test as I am using VX6600 and it supports fullfledged browsing. But nokia user can try changing UN & PW to MDN instead of QNC and see if it works. Use diego for tweaking.
