  1. TATA would be nightmare, believe me. I started believing that because we expect too much from reliance, we have so many complaints. GSM guys are no better then RIM except they are more sophisticated so wont let you feel that you are cheated or you are not treated well. I put download speed of just 10 MB so that it does not become so "cheap". If we talk about voice clarity, congesion etc. Reliance is still better rather best. They only need to free their control of handsets. It appears that soon reliace phones will be RUIM enabled as it seems that if CDMA wants to survive in regime of portability of numbers, then they must take necessary actions on this.
  2. No one can deny the fact that CDMA handsets, especially in India, are far inferior than GSM. Globally GSM is accepted for its voice capabilities not the data. Agreed 90% of users in India are voice users, so GSM is more acceptable than CDMA. But if we compare cost of communications including data than definately reliance is much much cheaper. Every one may be offering better prices in their own network but no one is comparable with reliace in terms of internetwork prices. In GSM GPRS / EDGE data cost is astronomically high, 10 paise per KB. Where as in reliance it is 0.3 paise per KB (Considering 10 MB dowload in 1 hours and Rs 30 per hour), widest network (As single operator), Data connection availability even in roaming at same price. Frankly I am been thinking toshift to GSM since last 1 year but when ever I go out of my town and can download mails on my laptop, I decide against shifting to GSM. Perheps because we expect too much from reliance RIMWEB is doing so well. Had it been GSM we would have accepted what ever they offered.
  3. Text copied from PDF document about portability of number: Download from: http://www.trai.gov.in/trai/upload/Recommendations/1/ TRAI's NOTE to DOT secretery No. 101-13/2005-MN-Vol II March 8, 2006 Sub: Recommendations on Mobile Number Portability 1. TRAI has issued its recommendations on Mobile Number Portability. A copy of the same along with Press Release is enclosed 2. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows Mobile subscribers to change their service provider while retaining their subscriber number. Portability benefits subscribers and increases the level of competition amongst service providers, rewarding those operators having better customer service, network coverage, and service quality. Keeping in view the growth of telecom services in India, TRAI considers that it is now an appropriate time to initiate the process for implementing Mobile Number Portability for further enhancing competition among service providers in the Mobile sector and also to improve quality of service and customer satisfaction to the Mobile Subscribers. 3. Keeping the above in view, TRAI issued a Consultation Paper on Mobile Number Portability on July 22, 2005. Subsequently, Open House Discussions were held in Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi to know the stakeholders opinion on this issue. Based on the inputs received in the Consultation process and also its own analysis, TRAI has finalised its recommendations on Mobile Number Portability. 4. The recommendations on Mobile number Portability provide broad guidelines on implementation of MNP which Government may consider mandating service providers so as to make available the facility of MNP by 1 April 2007. It may be mentioned that some of the operators expressed their willingness to implement Mobile Number Portability. The costing models annexed to the recommendations are based on the information received from some of the service providers about their network status. 5. These recommendations have also been posted on TRAI's website (www.trai.gov.in) ( Dr. D.P.S. Seth) Member T.R.A.I The Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Sanchar Bhavan, New Delhi-110001 Download reccomendation letter from above, which suggest April 07. I belive by april 07, reliace will come out with some sort of solution where handsets will be free from operator control. RUIM appears to be next near future dream.
  4. BSNL and MTNL operates CDMA as limited mobility hence it is under fixed line licence.
  5. Infact all nokia series 40 has that facility as shown in hidden settings, but some how it can not be activated. I too am trying for it.
  6. As frequency goes high range it covers decreases. This is one of the reason why 3G is expensive to deploy.
  7. Cheap Phones Hit Qualcomm Royalties In India

    Good strategy ADA.
  8. Cdma Phones May Get Network Freedom

Indicom is offering RUIM phones and its swapable but as usual they do not promot that feature.
  9. Nokia Exiting From Cdma Handset Production !

Infact nokia is going to transfer its CDMA technology to Sanyo. And they are going to sell Sanyo handset under nokia brand (now scrapped). It seems people are turnig away from CDMA. And thats the reason it seems why ADA is contemplating an idea of GSM. Qualcomm is charging 7% royalties. Its no small sum. It must be remembered that even EVDO and WCDMA are under control of Qualcomm. So prices of EVDO and WCDMA will ot be less in anways.
  10. Cdma Phones May Get Network Freedom

Yes, R world is built in to OS of phone. So untill and unless they all put it on RUIM (JAVA aplet) , tata phone will not be in position to use R world and vice versa.
  11. Sms Gateways Providers...

I have Microsoft SMS sender. Which do not suppor bulk SMS seding but can be tweaked for sending bulk SMS See cscreen shot
  12. Cdma Phones May Get Network Freedom

If this happens, then I think CDMA will be free from even controls like R world (controlled browsing) etc. And may be thats why GSM strategy too. Lets hope this happens.
  13. I recently activated international roaming on my number. After returning back from abroad, I got it temporary disconnection. Today while just paying with my handset, I did following 1. Changed SID / NID of handset from reliance to tata 2. Changed channels from rim to tata. After phone reset, my phone entered into digital roaming mode. I dont know if I am logged on to now RIM or tata but phone shows "DIGITAL ROAMING" I can make and receive calls. I will check bill for charges and post next month. Has any one tried this before? I could answer call but could not hear.
  14. Roaming In Tata Network

    kyocera 7135
  15. Infact if you really look at the scenario, it seems Reliance is smart enough to save itself from future hessles. Reasons I think are: 1. CDAM, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA are patented technologies by Qualcomm alone (About 2500 patents) http://ce.seekingalpha.com/article/6819 http://www.qualcomm.com/ir/annualreport/ar...hLicensing.html 2. Cost of 3G spectrum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS 3. Future wi-fi networks and wi-fi enbled handsets. This will surely cheaper alternate than data on W-CDMA / CDMA / EVDO networks. Hence time may come that mobile user will be reluctant to rely upon service provider for data needs due to cost as well as convinience. As CDMA / WCDMA handset will be more expensive due to royalty issues. Services are expensive due to cost of spectrum etc. Interesting chinese story about 3G http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2150838/...delays-china-3g http://www.vnunet.com/vnunet/news/2151786/...ews-wrap-130306
  16. I have but am from ahmedabad, is it OK?
  17. http://www.financialexpress.com/fe_full_st...ntent_id=130764 hehehe Frankly speaking India need company like reliance, they can bring companies like Qualcom to books and compell them to offer fair and equal deal. I appreciate this move of ADA
  18. End of CDMA era means expensive communication and poor data. Even if it is W-CDMA or EDGE or any GSM technology. Lets see, also expensive RIM means fewer customers for them because of market image.
  19. Nokia 6265 CDMA Launched on Reliance Mobile now !

I think network of reliance is far better than hutch or airtel especially as you go farther from urban areas.
  20. Some Software's For The Kyo 7135

I use simple solution, check manual date set, set date to 4-6 month old. Use player, before sending SMS or making call use automatic date update.
  21. It seems Reliance move is smaretr as globally CDMA users are not increasing as much as GSM (If you deduct RIM subscribers). Also with W-CDMA in horizon, CDMA EV-DO will probably prove expensive. Also CDMA equipments manufacturer has to pay about 7% royalties than merely 2% in GSM. Hence CDMA is proving expensive to manufacturers too, that is the reason (Probably) why CDMA handsets are not good featured. Timely switch to GSM will save RIM from last minute rush as eventually company can not survive on low end users as in case of RIM and TATA INDICOM Also CDMA system is not getting matured as fast as it should be in this era. Take an example of AUTO REDIAL. That feature is not active any where in the world successfully. People like us are hooked to CDMA probably becuase of data capabilities. But reliance and tata has failed to open FAX on handsets so either there is a problem with technology or SP are fooling (Even verizon do not provide fax) where as in GSM slow mover like BSNL too provide FAX. Immagine 2 Billion and 202 millon subscriber difference, even US is switching to GSM faster than CDMA. http://www.gsmworld.com/news/press_2006/press06_26.shtml in favour if CDMA http://cdg.org:80/resources/white_papers/f...0Dec%202005.pdf
  22. Duplicate DKU 5 as said. Has prolific 2032 drivers.
  23. 6225 I tried and not working, so is 2280. Still if you feel like can send me software for trial.
  24. Roaming In Tata Network

good idea, true I am on reliance network, but then how come I can log on to RIM with foreign SID / NID?
  25. May sound absurd to many techie members but I am contemplating idea to make 1800 mAH Li Ion battery for 7135. Li Ion Battery cells are of 3.7 V and such cells with high capacity is manufactured globally, I dont knw if any in India. Current size of battery with casing in 7135 is 71X36X6.6 mm (1200 mAH) Cell size of 1800 mAH is 63x34x10.3, means battery cover need to be made specially with about 5 mm protrusion. Using same circuitery recovered from kyo battery should be able to do the job. Any expert on this please comment. Also can any one help me getting 1800 mAH Li Ion cells? I got this idea from my laptop battery remanufactured by one guy and he flashed rather erased old battery info from chip and wrote new info too. Interesting info on battery found here too http://www.batteryuniversity.com
