  1. The BSNL Rs 339 offer looks attractive but has the following caveats.

    1. BSNL data is 3G (only in major towns and cities) or 2G and not 4G like Jio

    2. You are still charged heavily for outgoing calls on roaming (unlike Jio)

    3. FUP is a limitation (25 min a day to other operator networks) and not "unlimited" in the real sense compared to Jio

But, you need not cough up Rs 149 onwards a month to keep your SIM calling unblocked, unlike Jio

    Migrated Mumbai users, first check:

    * Does your phone have 4G?

    * Does handset support 800 mhz band?

    * Is the nearest tower 4G ready? This you may not know.. But even for Airtel users, if 4G signals are weak, you will naturally fall back to 3G. Therefore, checkout speeds in rest of the city, to be sure first.

If indeed you're getting only 3G speed everywhere, Reliance may ask us to wait for a while OR till Jio launch? This especially doesn't make sense for circles where they don't even have 3G license eg. Gujarat

Just for clarification: Do we need to have a handset with LTE band 5 (850mhz) or LTE band 20(800 mhz)? I find different members quoting different mhz values. Thank in advance.

Okay my cdma sim stopped working today and the 4G sim got activated.

However it is only connecting to HSPA+. No LTE ... Am I cheated ?

The messages everyone received does not say that 4G (LTE) is activated. It just says that now you need to shift to a GSM handset to keep getting network as CDMA will not work for your number anymore. 4G activation may happen in due course.

I did a Rs 93 recharge on Freecharge website, without browsing the voucher list. Got the 4G upgrade message from Reliance. This is from Andhra Pradesh circle.

  5. Some of the handsets that have LTE Band 5 (850 mhz) as well as Band 40 (2300 mhz) are

    Samsung Galaxy J7

    Samsung Galaxy J5

    Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N910G)

    Lenovo Vibe K4 Note

    Oppo F1

    Honor 5x

    iPhone 5s

    iPhone 6

    iPhone 6 plus

    iPhone SE

    Samsung Galaxy S6

These handsets also have Band 3 (1800 mhz) used by other service providers in India.

How many of these support VoLTE?

Above mentioned Samsung phones, Oppo F1, iPhone 6 onwards support VoLTE. In addition, Lyf phones are there of course.

  6. The newly launched N919D Dual SIM (GSM+CDMA) from ZTE may be a good option [1.2GHz quad-core Cortex-A5 based Qualcomm Snapdragon, 1GB of RAM, 4 GB internal storage, expandable to 32 GB by microSDHC card, 8MP rear camera with flash, 0.3MP front camera, Jellybean (Android 4.1), 5-inch display with a FWVGA (480x854 pixel) resolution, 2500mAh battery] for Rs. 6999. Features are decent for a CDMA phone The phone is exclusively available on e-bay with 3 months unlimited Reliance CDMA data for both existing and new users. Worth trying if meets the need and the budget. Here is the link on e-bay.
