My laptop journey >>> IBM T30 (best and most stable).... HP Pavillion( The worst)... Dell 1525 (Perfect considering its price i got it for 25k)

I have high-end assembled Desktop with C2D, 4GB Ram, 500gb HDD, Intel ogi board, Viewsonic 22 TFT LCD and all.. so my laptop usage is less.... Dell 1525 comes handy if i have to visit customers for demo or on-site programming :P

Finally I zeroed on ACER ASPIRE 5738Z

Configuration -

15.6" WXGA, LED backlit.

Intel P4, T4200 processor, 2 Ghz. 1 MB L2 Cache (Model with T6400 was costing about 33500)

3 GB DDR 3 RAM (Future proofing - I can upgrade with another 2 or 4 GB module next year when DDR 3 RAM become cheaper.)

320 GB eSATA HDD

Wifi, BT, Card reader, HDMI, 4 USB port etc.

PRO ( I found)

1. Reasonablly priced (I got for 28250 with Linux OS). Will install Windows 7 currently, later buy OEM OS from some where - if needed. For foreign travel will install official XP licence I have.)

2. Good battery life (About 2 hours 45 minutes, normal usage. More than 3 hours 30 minutes in when not used and lying idle)

3. Big bright and good screen. Ofcourse not exclusive to ACER.

CONS

1. Delicate built (Than HP or Dell,, but its not a big problem for me.)

2. No OS so no good utilities like Grid Vista, Acer Power smart (Said to increase battery life by double) or back up mamanger (WM7 has good back up utility)

3. Poor quality speakers (Some how HP has best speakers, for those who like to watch movie may not enjoy speakers, though ACER says it has DOLBY and Virtual surround)

The above is a con.. up to 3 hrs is very very less nowadays.

But its ok if its ok with you.

I think Dell Vostro 1220 is best option.

12.1 with Core 2 Duo, an ultra portable machine with all required features.

12.1 will provide actual mobility.

Being VOSTRO its supposed to be stable.

@ Sadik can you pls help to get this at lower price.

Yes 3 hours is less but longer battery laptops has mainly Core2Solo processors running at max 1.4 Ghz. I am saying this because I have studied specs of acer timeline and Sony Vio (Forgot model number) also as screen size increases battery life decreases. Its said by people that as 1" screen size increases battery life decreases by 45 minutes. Meas for 14" it should be more than 4 hours and may be 4.5 to 5 hours for 13 or 12 " models.

I will suggest all to buy Laptops with DDR3 RAM now as DDR 2 os almost on verge of obsoletion. Means upgrades will become expensive in next year or so. DDR3 ram will be expensive now but will be much cheaper in next 1 year. That time laptop can be upgraded to may be with 4 GB module for longer usability of laptop.
