Review: Philips HTB5540D/94 5.1 Home Theater & HD Media Player HMP 3000/98

Recommended Posts

First of all I am not good in writing reviews but I received PM from a member asking for review of the product so here it goes.

HTB5540D/94 5.1 Home theater

PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS

http://www.philips.co.in/c/home-theater-systems/crystal-clear-sound-smart-tv-htb5540d_94/prd/?t=specifications

MRP Rs.27,490/-
Bought it for
Rs.22,598/-
from shopclues and received Clues Bucks: 2260
Effective price Rs. 20338/-
Which in terms of price was a good deal.
PROS
  1. Sound quality is good. tried several DTSHDMA audio at full volume and the output was great.
  2. Easy to connect to Wifi.
  3. MKV works nicely even huge files (LOTR remuxes which are around 35-40 GB in size)
CONS
  1. Wall mounting
    a) The general wall mounting kit available in market does not work with the speakers. You will have to use nails to hang the speakers on wall.
    B) The length of wire for rear speakers is very less and I could not find any extension wire for this product.
  2. Support
    a) The person demonstrated the product knew nothing about the product and could explain only general features. I asked around 10 question and he could not answer any of them. He told me that senior will call regarding this but have not received any response till date.
    B) While installing the tower speakers he dropped them on floor thrice. You can imagine what I may be feeling.
    c) It was mentioned in the Product specification that it plays Bluray ISO (region unlocked) files which it does not. It just start playing one M2TS file after another and then hangs.
    d) 3rd day after using the USB hard disk playing feature started behaving abnormally and is not working properly. keeps jumping between Video and Home screen after every few seconds. Will be calling customer support for this.
  3. It is mentioned in specification that Dolby TrueHD is supported but does not work in MKV files as it comes up with unsupported audio. I think it only supported in Bluray discs.
My overall experience with the product is bad and I will not recommend any of Philips product. Based on experience with different Philips products from several other friends.
Some pics (camera have some problem so pics are not clear)
