Send Unlimted Sms Between Two Airtel Numbers

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to figure out a way to send free sms from my RIM to my gf's RIM but to

no avail. But I think I might have finally stumbled upon a way to be able to send free

unlimited sms between two Airtel numbers at a monthly commitment of just 15/- for each

number. It would be great if anyone of you could check it out to see if the whole thing

works.

I once reported about the sms2mail service provided by Airtel here.

At that time, I was able to send mails from my mail account to my gf's Airtel number in

from of sms. But she was unable to send back mail to my Gmail account through her

SMS facility. Finally I figured out a way to do so. Now I think if we merge it together in

the way I am going to list, we may be able to use for unlimted SMSing between two

Airtel numbers.

Here is how I think it can be done.

Step 1. Sunscribe to the sms2mail facility offered by Airtel. It costs 15/-p.m. which is deducted automatically every month. As soon as you subscribe to it, you will recieve an

SMS detailing how to use it.

Step 2. Suppose your no. is 09860 XXXXXX, then your email ID becomes 919860XXXXXX@smsairtel.com

Step 3. You will recieve the ID in form of an SMS along with a password and a link

similar to this.

Step 4. Now click on the link which will take you to the Login page. Input your email ID and the password.

Step 5. On the left side, you will be able to see "Address Book". Click on it.

Step 6. Now on the right side, in the bottom, you will find two buttons, "Delete" and

"New". Click on "New".

Step 7. You will have a new window in front of you with two boxes, one for E-Mail Alias and another for E-Mail ID. Fill the alias box with a short name and the E-mail ID with the ID of the person you want to send mail to via SMS. Like if you want to send mail to

abc@yahoo.com, add it in the box. Finally click on "Add" to see it in the adress box.

Step 8: Now you are done. You can now send mail to the concerned person through

SMS. You will recieve the instructions for it as well in the SMS.

Step 9. If anyone wants to send you a mail, he/she can send it to 919860XXXXXX@smsairtel.com and you will recieve it as an SMS.

All this has been tested and working perfectly well for the last one month.

Now you must be wondering how to send free SMS between two Airtel numbers. This is

where I need your help in testing the procedure.

What I think is that the two numbers should each suscribe to the service as detailed.

Then when it comes to adding the mail IDs, each can add the other persons "smsairtel"

ID. This way, when one sends a mail to that persons ID, it will be routed through the

"smsairtel" server and then delivered in form of an SMS on the other persons SMS.

I hope I haven't confused you all.

Any queries, kindly post. I am not 100% sure if it will work but there is no harm in trying!

Hi CTRL_ALT (kya id hai yaar? ha ha ha, dont know what to call you.)

Where to subscribe? Airtel people told me there is no paid service offered by them like this anywhere in India when I enquired at AIRTEL head office at Mumbai and also in Airtel HelpDesk Gallery. If AIRTEL people dont know this paid service obviously AIRTEL wont take money for services offered by JATAAYU people.

And your link is taking us to JATAAYU login website where we see only login page. No details.

Can you please post the scanned image of any offer document or any brochure here? so we can ask AIRTEL people about this service. Also you said your GF is in pune, where you said the service available! Are you also in pune? or other city by any chance? Because it happens. I am in Mumbai, Wife also in Mumbai, but GF in USA. :)

I suspect this could be an illegal or unofficial service given by JATAAYU and might stop after sometime if AIRTEL takes objection on it. Anyways CTRL, you enjoy till then. :quest:

Ok, so here is the procedure. It's pretty straight forward.

Just send "SUB" (without quotes) to 8282. You will recieve a confirmatory message with your password and the link to your mailbox.

It's as simple as that.

@Mahendra: In all probability, the fee they are charging is for the ability to both recieve emails as sms and send emails as SMS.

The free procedures that you have talked about only involve recieving sms via email. So maybe that's why they have not been charged.

There are no documents to scan. My gf recieved the message from Airtel detailing the offer when she was in Mumbai. That's where she suscribed to it. Now she is back in Pune and the service is functioning as it should be.

I don't know why no one else knows about it. Maybe she was randomly picked up for demo run before the service is launched for the masses. Besides, I really haven't given it a much thought as to why no one else knows about it. As long as it saves my sms money, I am happy.

I detailed the plan so that if it works for others, well and good. Otherwise, no harm done.

...And you can call me Cody. :D

Hi Abhinav

I could see your real-name only after I saw the forum in HI-FI version! I usually use LO-FI Version. Therefore did not notice your name! Nice to meet you abhinav
