Anil Ambani proposes to marry Sony TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SATURDAY OCTOBER 22, 2005 01:56:56 AM MUMBAI: Speculation is rife that Anil Ambani may be joining hands with Sony Corporation to stitch together a partnership in the media and entertainment space. For the past three days, ever since Sony chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer arrived in the country, the two firms have been involved in a series of meetings to thrash out possible areas of collaboration. It culminated in a private dinner hosted by Anil Ambani in Stringer’s honour at a south Mumbai hotel on Friday. While Stringer headed the 12-member high level Sony delegation, Ambani was accompanied by senior managers from ADAE, including Adlabs CMD Manmohan Shetty. The agenda is said to have covered the joint production of feature films, international distribution, and sharing of entertainment libraries. This could take the form of a joint venture which will produce Bollywood movies in India, said industry sources familiar with the developments. Among the other possibilities, a content partnership for broadband could be also on the cards. While Sony has a huge storehouse of premium content, ranging from Hollywood movies to international music, video games and other interactive content, Reliance Infocomm has begun piloting one of the largest broadband projects in the country. Called ‘‘Netway’’, it will provide homes with a range of television channels, high-speed telephony, audio conferencing, video conferencing, video on demand and Juke box. However, ever since Anil Ambani took over Infocomm, he said to have explored options like DTH as well. On the other hand Sony, which is going through a hard patch globally, hit by falling share price, stagnant revenues and retrenchments has been looking to lucrative markets like India to grow its businesses. Earlier in the day, talking to an industry audience in Mumbai, Stringer alluded to the pressures Sony is under, when he said, ‘‘A great brand just buys you time, it does not let you live forever.’’ What lends further credence to the likelihood of a tie-up is that a few months ago, there were rumours of Sony Entertainment Television’s India head Kunal Dasgupta being inducted to the Adlabs Films board. ADAE has been vocal about its aggressive plans in the entertainment business. It recently snapped up Adlabs Films, a film processing and distribution company. It recently entered into a co-production arrangement with director Ram Gopal Varma to build up a bank of movies. On Thursday, TOI had reported Sony Pictures Entertainment’s plans to co-produce a Hindi feature film, Savariya with director Sanjay Leela Bansali. This is the first co-production between a major Hollywood studio and an Indian director.

Thats what Reliance CC says and you know what they are ! The CLIP charge and plan charges are included within the R-Connect monthly rental. Infact I am getting waiver for monthly membership of R-World too Chirag, the default plan are the same as mentioned by Rajan (Rs. 0.50 for day shift (from 6 AM to 10 PM) and Rs. 0.25 for Night Shift (from 10 PM to 6 AM).) and it is enabled by default for all prepaid and postpaid customers (who haven't opted for any R-Connect plan). They must have messed up the + sign thingy in the website anyway
-
Well, yes, so there is a difference right ! I've tried using R-Connect with Sierra Wireless data card on my laptop at different locations and using different handsets with original data cable too. But the 'experience' have been better *always* (atleast for me!) whenever I tried it along with handset-data cable combination !

Happy Birthday bro ! Wishing you more than a wonderful day, Wishing good things in the year on the way...

Reliance does seem to have an anti abuse help desk for their network and I've found their anti abuse department's details when I checked their network information with APNIC. So they must hav got a report with the IP address from the international agency as pointed out by ashras99. P2P networks are filled with bogous files and monitored heavily by such monitoring agencies these days !

The 7.4 magnitude devastating earthquake in Pakistan on October 8 has raised several questions and posed new problems for scientists and engineers. But the most frequently asked question is whether it is possible to predict the occurrence of an earthquake. The answer to this question is, 'yes, to a sufficient degree of accuracy, about a few hours before the occurrence of an earthquake.' The earthquake precursors discussed here are exclusively for moderate to large earthquakes, meaning earthquakes of magnitude 6.0 or more on the Richter Scale. Earthquakes of lesser magnitude may or may not necessarily exhibit all the precursors. Short term precursors: These could be seen by the common man and are highly reliable. People in seismically active areas may keep a copy of this article for further use. There are several types of short term precursors which could be seen and observed by different strata of society. Seismo-electromagnetic precursor: This is a very reliable short term precursor. It occurs and is exhibited about 10 to 20 hours before the quake. Before the occurrence of an earthquake the subsurface temperature rises. As a result of this the geomagnetic field is reduced. The reduction in geomagnetic field adversely affects the propagation of electromagnetic waves. This is experienced abundantly on the radio, television and telephone. If one is tuning the radio at 1000 kHz, then the same station will be received in the potential epicentral area, about 10 to 30 hours before the quake, at higher frequencies. Maybe 1100, 1200, 1300, 1800, 1900, 2000 kHz or so. Similarly, reception on television is affected by audio, visual and spectral disturbances. The telephone's reception is also adversely affected and there is a continuous disturbance that you can hear. Apart from this, a recent reliable precursor is the mobile telephone. It has been found that about 100 to 150 minutes before the occurrence of an earthquake, mobile telephones start non-functioning or malfunctioning. The timespan indicated is sufficient to take all necessary mitigatory measures. A word of caution: all the above precursors are valid only when seen and manifested extensively. Failure of one or two instruments should not be taken as a seismic precursor. To read more about all types of seismic precursors, follow this link !

Samsung SCH-191 used to get good reviews for their better R-Connect speed. But it isn't available anymore so you may have to search for a second hand one. Other handsets are more or less the same in terms of R-Connect's speed.

If you subscribe under New Joy 149 with Freedom@Night plan, the total monthly commitment will be Rs.400 + 10.2% service tax. No other charges apply for the monthly rental commitment. Quite a deal infact
-
Web World Express may give you a price for second hand ones if you are buying a new one even though the prices they offer could be low.

No it isn't possible under Internet Explorer. But you can change what Ctrl + Enter does with the following registry trick: 1. Create the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\QuickComplete. 2. Create the following registry value in the key above: QuickComplete REG_SZ http://www.%s.whatever 3. Whatever is in the address bar will be inserted where the '%s' is. This example would complete 'microsoft' to 'http://www.microsoft.whatever'. 4. Please note that the QuickComplete string is currently limited to 64 characters.

Rs.9999 is too much ! Try at a local dealer as he may be able to give a better price if he is willing to decrease his profit margin a bit.

India warns: Google terror threat Saturday, October 15, 2005; Posted: 11:50 p.m. EDT (03:50 GMT) HYDERABAD, India (Associated Press release) -- Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam expressed concern Saturday about a free mapping program from Google Inc., warning it could help terrorists by providing satellite photos of potential targets. Google Earth, an Internet site launched in June this year, allows users to access overlapping satellite photos. Although not all areas are highly detailed, some images are very high resolution, and some show sensitive locations in various countries. At a meeting of top police officials in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, Kalam said he worried that "developing countries, which are already in danger of terrorist attacks, have been singularly chosen" for providing high resolution images of their sites. The governments of South Korea and Thailand and lawmakers in the Netherlands have expressed similar concerns. South Korean newspapers said Google Earth provides images of the presidential Blue House and military bases in the country, which remains technically at war with communist North Korea. The North's main nuclear facility at Yongbyon is among sites in that country displayed on the service. The Google site contains clear aerial photos of India's parliament building, the president's house and surrounding government offices in New Delhi. There are also some clear shots of Indian defense establishments. Debbie Frost, spokewoman for Mountain View, California-based Google, noted that the software uses information already available from public sources and the images displayed are about one to two years old, not shown in real time. "Google takes governmental concerns about Google Earth and Google Maps very seriously. Google welcomes dialogue with governments, and we will be happy to talk to Indian authorities about any concerns they may have," Frost said in an e-mail statement Saturday. Kalam, a scientist who guided India's missile program before becaming president, called for new laws to restrain dissemination of such material. He said existing laws in some countries regarding spatial observations of their territory and the United Nations' recommendations on the practice were inadequate.

Just noticed something interesting in their new FAQ... Unless the only is a typo, Freedom/Freedom Plus customers are gonna find it difficult to keep track of their usage !

LG RD 2030 or LG RD 5130 doesn't make much difference in the effective speed, its dependant on the network. Since you are using R-Connect on a laptop while travelling, you can avoid the hassles of using data cables, by purchasing a Reliance Data Card, which costs around Rs.9000+ And as per the reviews by other members in the forum, the R-Connect experience using a Data Card is far better than using a handset. Moreover, you can opt for the Platinum plan (unlimited data transfer) for Rs.1500 per month, which isn't available for handset connections anymore. So the data card seems to be your best bet !
-
I tried it in my RD 2030 which has a local USB data cable, but didn't work for me.
-
Just to clear out some confusion... If you are currently subscribed to any of the old data based plans like Freedom/Freedom Plus/Platinum plans, you can continue with it. It hasn't been withdrawn for existing subscibers. However, you cannot migrate between any of the old data based plans, even if you were subscribed to one.

As per a birdie, Reliance is infact looking into the possibilities of a similar offer soon Well, its normal for an operator to follow suit when another operator launches an attractive offer
-
Or was he referring to a static IP address ?
-
I guess the default plan is 50p/25p/min as before for both post paid as well as prepaid. Post paid users have the choice of opting for any of the new time based plans. I've heard R-Connect RCV for Prepaid are on the anvil !

Check out the long review from Linux.com about Ubuntu Breezy Badger edition !

@Rajan It may be purposefully inserted into the FAQ for the CC to check. Remember that CC does check reianceinfo.com often for verifications from their terminals. @RSumit Thats true, as per their FAQ, they have done injustice to FWP users since they have to pay the same tariff as RIM inspite of being immobile ! Afterall, thats the reason why Reliance admits too for the higer pricing than other providers like BSNL. BTW, note that Platinum/freedom/freedom plus plans were not withdrawn for customers already subscribed to the old data plans, which makes those existing plantinum users lucky !
