  2. Reliance Info ignores family feud; eyes 10-fold jump in users 100 mn subscribers by 2008: Infocomm PRESS TRUST OF INDIA Friday, April 22, 2005 at 1543 hours IST NEW DELHI, APRIL 22: Reliance Infocomm on Friday outlined an ambitious target of a ten-fold increase in subscriber base to 100 million by 2008 saying the Ambani family developments had no effect on professional management of the company. "We have entered into a growth phase now. It is on my wish list to raise our subscriber base to 100 million in the next three years from the present 10 million," Kamal Nanavati, chief operating officer, Reliance Infocomm, told PTI. Asked whether the developments in the Ambani family regarding the ownership of the over Rs 90,000 crore empire was affecting the functioning of the company, especially at the level of execution of plans, Nanavati said ‘absolutely not.’ "The Infocomm business has been run in a extremely professional manner. The responsibilities have been decentralised at the circle level. There are 88 clusters throughout the country and targets are well-defined. In such a scenario there is no possibility of any plan execution getting affected," he said. About the impact of Tatas' aggressive expansion of their telecom business, including an additional investment of Rs 10,000 crore by August 2006, on Reliance Infocomm's positioning, he said "telecom sector is expanding very fast and there is certainly need for many big players." Projecting that telecom subscriber base in India would touch 400 million by 2008, Nanavati said, "We certainly do not have a majority share but we can expect it to be around 22-25 per cent."
  3. Bandwidth Problem

There are lots of other websites as well, yes a forum can stress a server very much. But we have put a restriction on RIMweb.com's account so that the forum will not cause high server load if too many users are accessing the forum simultaneously. That is the reason why the above error comes in between. Anyway, we have raised the limit now. The server is a Dual Intel Xeon 2.4 Ghz with 2 GB of RAM now. We will be upgrading to Dual Intel Xeon 2.8 Ghz by May end.

  9. Trai Slashes Domestic Bandwidth Prices

The telecom regulator today slashed the leased-line tariff by 70 per cent. However, major operators like Bharat Sanchar Nigam, Videsh Sanchar Nigam, Reliance Infocomm and AirTel are silent about when they will pass on the benefit to end-customers. Domestic leased circuit (DLC) carries data and voice services within the country. DLC determines the bandwidth available to the operators , which is essential to provide higher quality voice and faster download of data for the end consumers. It is very important for the promotion of broadband-based services like streaming video and high-speed surfing. The service is provided by basic service operators/unified access service licensees (BSNL, AirTel, Reliance Infocomm), national long distance operators (VSNL, BSNL, AirTel, Reliance Infocomm) and infrastructure service providers-category II (Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd and Gail). The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has revised downwards the ceiling tariff for different capacities by 3 to 70 per cent and for higher capacities it is 70 per cent less than the existing market rate. (See chart) The key users of the service in India are internet service providers, information technology (IT) and IT-enabled service enterprises like business process outsourcing units, telecommunication service providers and corporate enterprises. The tariff ceiling will come into effect from May 1, 2005, and will be reviewed after 12 months. Trai directed that pro-rata corrections, wherever applicable, must be made to any advance payments that might have been made for leased circuits on the basis of prevailing tariffs by the customers. The regulator added that the tariffs fixed are in the nature of ceilings and operators are at liberty to offer lower rates. The ceiling tariff for domestic bandwidth (domestic leased circuit) was originally fixed in 1999. A senior Trai official said: “The competition was not fully effective in the provision of DLCs despite the increase in the number of players in the market. Rapid technological advances have sharply reduced the unit cost of bandwidth. However, the reduction witnessed in the leased line tariffs is not commensurate with that witnessed in the cost of providing the services. This prompted us to revise the tariff and a further cut is expected soon based on a consultation process with the stakeholders.” The official said: “A competitively priced DLC service is fundamental to achieving a higher rate of penetration of broadband in the country, which provides a basis for fundamentally transferring the socio-economic opportunities, particularly in rural India.” Suppliers of domestic bandwidth like BSNL, Bharti, Reliance Infocomm and VSNL could face pressure on margins. A BSNL official confirmed that the company’s profit would be reduced as a result, but refused to quantify the extent of reduction. The BSNL official added that the PSU might approach Trai for a review. An Infocomm source agreed that there would surely be a negative impact on companies offering domestic bandwidth. BSNL is the largest provider of domestic bandwidth followed by Bharti and Reliance. A Trai official confirmed that the cellular and fixed-line prices would also come down but only in the medium to long-term. The broadband and Internet prices would be the first to see reductions.
  10. Bandwidth Problem

We had decreased the limit for number of queries per second recently and that is the reason why the maxed out errors appear nowadays. So we will be doing a RAM upgrade in the next 12 to 24 hours and we will increase the limit, which will hopefully reduce such errors.
  11. It's business as usual: Reliance Info COO Sreenivasan Jain - NDTV Profit Wednesday, April 20, 2005 (Mumbai): For sometime now, telecom giant Reliance Infocomm has been in the eye of a storm even as many believe it gets ready to be handed over to Anil Ambani. For the first time today, the COO of Reliance Infocomm told NDTV that irrespective of whether Anil or Mukesh heads the telecom giant, its business as usual. At the state-of-the-art Reliance Infocomm headquarters on the outskirts of Mumbai, there is little evidence of the storm raging outside. The telecom giant and Mukesh Ambani's baby may now find itself changing hands. Breaking their silence for the first time, Kamal Nanavati, COO, Reliance Infocomm said that be it Anil or Mukesh, they are here to stay. "Normally people would presume this is in a country like India. But we are a professional business. Infocomm is a new generation business. It is manned by an entire set of professionals. It doesn't matter to them who is at the helm of affairs," said Nanavati. However, there is still considerable speculation over Mukesh's absence at Infocomm headquarters. "As the business became stable, we don't require him as much as often as was the case earlier," Nanavati added. Critical timing The timing of these words is critical. In another 10 days, Reliance Infocomm will announce its results which will indicate whether the company has finally posted a profit or as some reports suggest for the third year in row still remain in the red. Fuelling concerns are Infocomm's battle with telecom regulators where in it has been accused for wrongly passing off international calls as domestic calls. "I don't think we've done anything which we believe which is contrary to what is interpreted by us. If someone interprets its differently then its a question of going to somebody above us and whatever they say we do," said Nanavati. Meanwhile, Infocomm's results will be critical not just for its subscribers but also to determine its valuation. This will be the final chapter in the family battle before it changes hands from one Ambani to the next.

Actually if you search more in the Technical/Programming forum, you will find more help on creating good midi ringtones for RIM. You need to reduce the playing time of the song using the cut tool and also remove a few chords without affecting the tune. I hope you have ticked the "Ringtone format" box and also used the correct size. There is no guarentee that you will succeed with it, but you should be able to do that as well using psmplayer. Its very difficult to convert mp3 to midi without loosing much of its quality. As I've mentioned earlier, you need to go deep into the Technical Programming forum as there are many posts which already discussed what you asked.

Its still 0 MB for me, even though I have used more than that. Date is also blank. Or does it start ticking only after the 1 GB limit is over ?

  15. Reliance Info plans big for Karnataka Our Correspondent / Mangalore April 19, 2005 The company’s 80,000 km of terabit optic cable network forms the backbone of its countrywide expansion and will facilitate unlimited and uninterrupted voice, data and video applications. This operation, touching nearly 65 crore Indians will cover nearly two-third of its villages and over 5,700 cities and towns. This expansion involving 8,500 BTS (base transceiver station) towers will also cover 91 per cent of the country’s National Highways and 85 per cent of all the rail routes. As part of its phase II network expansion in Karnataka which has a scope of covering 300 towns, Reliance India Mobile services are now available in 200 towns (inclusive of 47 phase I towns) of Karnataka. The phase II expansion due to be completed soon will entail coverage of 300 towns, 5,860 villages and over two crore people. 17. Press Trust of India Kolkata, 18 April 2005 Reliance Infocomm's wireless data connectivity service has proved to be a money spinner for the telecom service provider which has recorded a 70 per cent growth in the last four months. With the sale of laptops in the country showing a handsome growth of around 100 per cent, Reliance Infocomm is set to corner a sizeable share of the expanding data usage market, which is growing at a very fast pace, a company official said here today. "Our data usage facilities have already clocked 350 million minutes till march 31, 2005, showing a quantum jump of 70 per cent in the last four months," he said. This high growth is mainly due to the Infocomm's wireless Internet connectivity offerings at affordable rates coupled with the withdrawal of customs duty on computers, he said. The company is bullish about the growth of its wireless data connectivity business in the near future with installed desktop computers base of around 12 million growing at 40 per cent and laptop base of 0.5 million growing at 100 per cent. "Around 48 per cent of computer users surf the internet, and with this section growing rapidly, it speaks volumes for the potential of data business in the country," the official said. Keeping this growth in mind, Reliance Infocomm has already entered into strategic tie-ups with leading brands like Intel, IBM, LG, HCL for marketing of its R-connect service which provides uninterrupted internet connectivity. As per the arrangement with Intel, the dealers selling branded and assembled computers with Intel processers would offer R-connect products to their customers, the official said. Under the arrangement with IBM from this month, any IBM laptop would be available with R-connect data cards. These initiatives had already started showing results, as in March 2005 alone, the total revenue from data business touched Rs 15 crores, the official said. Reliance Infocomm also expects a substantial jump in its revenue after it decided to make its R-world service on the CDMA mobile phone a paid service with effect from this month.

  22. Reliance "Ownership Issues"

If Anil Heads Reliance Ibrahim Ahmad - Voice & Data Tuesday, April 12, 2005 If Anil gets Reliance Infocomm, as rumor mills are rife with speculation, there is unlikely to be any change as far as Reliance's dream and vision to be an integrated end-to-end service provider is concerned. This is a very strong trait of the Ambani family-even in petrochem; they aspire to be integrated end-to-end company. I see a great opportunity for Anil Ambani. In spite of all the things that Reliance Infocomm has done in the Indian marketplace till date, there are lots of loose ends to be tied up, lots of issues to be ironed out, and lots of competition to be handled. And these challenges are only increasing. Clearly, Mukesh would have got more and more stretched for time. If Anil takes up Infocomm, we will see a more aggressive and streamlined Reliance, because he has more time on his hand. While all along Mukesh has been seen as the leader in the Reliance family, heading Infocomm will give Anil the opportunity to prove that he is no less. If Anil comes, fresh thinking and approach to business is likely to follow. Re-structuring, of senior people and their responsibilities, if not the organization structure is likely to happen. Getting a completely new team might not be very easy in an industry where there is a dearth of new generation telecom CEOs, but Anil will surely ensure that team leaders who agree with his vision come in. The first phase of Reliance Infocomm was all about getting things rolling. Mukesh was very successful at it, as his aggressive and result-oriented top-down, and highly centralized management style ensured that network rollouts were fast and vast. For the second phase, which will be more about innovative thinking, greater customer orientation, flexibility, de-centralization, and co-operation, Anil might be a better bet. One of the biggest challenges before the Tata, Reliance and Bharti group is dealing with the incumbents BSNL and MTNL, both of which have big expansion plans in terms of new services, reach, and technology. Anil Ambani, because of his political interests and connections, is better placed to manipulate the incumbent operators to his company's advantage. One front where Anil Ambani and his advisors will have to give a thought is his image. Compared to Mukesh, who was seen as workaholic, focused, and an aggressive taskmaster, Anil is perceived as a politically inclined Page 3 party hopper, who has lots of other diversions in life, beyond work. Also, he has been coming out as a loser in his fight for dominance over Reliance. All these will be fodder for the rumor mills, give boost to competitors, and obviously not help in building investor confidence. User base of Reliance, consumers as well as enterprise user, will continue to grow un-affected, unless there is some massive goof-up. Finally, if Anil gets to head Reliance, competition will likely end up with more sleepless nights.
  23. Reliance to add 600 more towns in its mobile service Coimbatore, April 13 (PTI): Telecom service provider major Reliance Infocomm would expand its network in 600 more towns in Tamil Nadu shortly, a senior company official said today. The company, which has 130 towns coverage, has recently expanded its network to 400 towns in the last three months and plans to add 600 more towns, including some villages, Ajay Awasthi, Reliance India Mobile (RIM), Head-Rest of Tamil Nadu, told reporters here. As part of the company's ambitious plan, the company would cover 90 per cent of the villages and habitats of Tamil Nadu by 2006, Awasthi said. Refusing to divulge the details of investment for the expansion, Awasthi said with a subscriber base of over 10 million, even habitats with less than 1000 population would be covered during the expansion. Awasthi was here to launch RIM's 'Blockbuster,' an innovative mega movie promotion platform on the eve of Tamil New Year, in association with the coming Tamil film 'Sachien.' Highlighting the salient features of Blockbuster, he said this was a special entertainment platform brought exclusively to RIM customers through CDMA2001X based data capable handsets showcasing the broadband technology, as an alternate platform for movie promotion.
