January 19, 2005 17:22 IST Last Updated: January 19, 2005 17:23 IST Bharti Televentures Ltd on Wednesday announced the second phase of expansion with the launch of its broadband and fixed services from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, under which it will offer broadband services at Rs 500 a month for 256 kbps. "We will cover 15 cities during the next fiscal for the broadband and fixed line services. The expansion plan will be taken up in Punjab, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Kerala. We will invest Rs 150 crore (Rs 1.50 billion) in UP for fixed line and broadband services," Rajan Mittal, Joint MD, Bharti Televentures, told newspersons in Noida. The company will soon roll out the services in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Agra and Lucknow, he said. With Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd and Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd offering broadband services of 256 kbps at Rs 500 a month, Bharti's broadband service at 256 kbps also starts at Rs 500 a month with 1 GB download. "We will give all packages. 128 kbps, 256 kbps. . . We have always said we would be price competitive. With more competition, if necessary, we may drop the prices but we will not match pie-to-pie with them," he said, adding that any speed above 128 kbps could be called broadband. Bharti's other broadband tariffs include a plan of Rs 249 a month (64 kbps) and Rs 349 a month (Rs 128 Kbps), among others.

AirTel has reduced the rates after TRAI's decision to discontinue ADC by the private operators. AirTel (Bharti) has announced the regime first (even though it will start from Feb 1st only). So Reliance will also surely reduce the tariff as per the new regime, before February 1st ofcourse !

It won't work due to the limited capabilities of the browser (jBrowser). They have to really improve it. Most GSM/GPRS phone browsers work well.

Tata Teleservices on Thursday launched Push-to-Talk services offering customers the facility to make unlimited calls without any long distance or roaming charges within the network on a monthly rental of Rs 99. The PTT service, which is the first by any mobile operator in the country, will offer instant connectivity across the country and Internet surfing at 3G speeds. Announcing the launch of the service, Amit Bose, president, Tata Teleservices, said it was targeted at corporates, SMEs and individuals, and will be available on a Kyocera handset costing Rs 5,000 with Qualcomm's BREW Chat applications. Presently, upto four subscribers sitting anywhere in the country can talk to each other at a cost of Rs 99 each. The company has announced a CDMA based PTT service for post-paid users who will be paying Rs 99 a month for unlimited calls and will either buy a handset for Rs 5,000 upfront or pay Rs 1,000 with 12 installments of Rs 350 each. The company will soon launch its pre-paid version, Bose said, adding PTT will have international roaming within a year. The company also announced a GSM based PTT services with a handset price of Rs 15,000. It offers CDMA-based mobile service under the brand name 'Tata Indicom' and is eyeing a customer base of 50,000 in the first year from the National Capital Territory. The major benefit of PTT is that it frees the customer by allowing him to instantly call a group of people at no cost, Bose said.
