  1. I have seen a plan change fee (Rs.100 I think) mentioned somewhere, but I wasn't charged whenever I upgraded or downgraded plans in the past.
  2. BuySell.RIMweb.in

First of all I apologize for the delay in re-opening the Buy Sell forums. Yes, the Buy-Sell section is open now, and grander than ever before! Buy-Sell section is now a separate sub-forum accessible at http://buysell.rimweb.in using the same login that you have at RIMweb.in - So you do not have to register again. Just go to http://buysell.rimweb.in and you will be logged in automatically using your RIMweb.in forums login. I wanted to integrate the sub-forum completely including the existing member group and full profile; however this is still not done yet and I am continuing to work with 3rd party developers to achieve this so that it would be a fully seamless integration. Until this is achieved, we will manually sync your account details. Even though this is going to be a lot of manual work for the moderators, I had no choice but to re-open the Buy Sell forum with this temporary arrangement now since it is getting delayed a lot. Since the Buy-Sell section will function as a separate sub-forum, it will no longer clutter the main forums with Sell topics when there is a surge in new Sell topics and so there will be no more restriction period in between. It will be always open with scope for expansion instead of clogging up the main forums as it is due for expansion itself with the upcoming launch of Reliance Jio services. The existing guidelines and formats will be used as usual and this has been posted over to the new Buy Sell forums. The existing forum for Feedback topics will be used so that previous sellers will not lose their feedbacks. Note: For the temporary arrangement until full integration is achieved for automatically exporting member groups and member profile statistics, the following steps will be followed for manually syncing the member groups and stats. * Your first topic/post in the new Buy Sell sub forums will go into moderation preview queue. * The moderators will then look up your profile at RIMweb.in forums and will update the member groups and stats at BuySell.RIMweb.in * Your topic/post will then go live with your existing member profile details and thereafter you can post normally. Update: Please check the update in post #17

  5. EE should be able to push lot more than that on their Double Speed 4GEE network where they refarmed 2G spectrum and doubled the amount for 4G spectrum. I did this test on EE in Bristol, UK few months ago: It was a prepaid plan at around Rs.2000 for 2 GB per month.

  9. Baburajan K, TelecomLead.com May 19, 2014 Reliance Communications is planning to focus on 3G and REV-B network expansion with a Capex (capital spending) of nearly Rs 2,000 crore during fiscal 2015. The Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications invested around Rs 1,500 crore during fiscal 2014. Rs 2,000 crore is one of the poor Capex plans for an operator with around 37.4 million plus mobile data subscriber base. Reliance Communications is following Capex Lite strategy. This means, it will not increase its Capex substantially. Vinod Sawhny, CEO of Reliance Communications, during a recent analyst meet, said: “We will bolster our network. This could be through ICR arrangements. We will add REV-B onto our CDMA network, and our focus will be on enhancing network experience of our customers and we would be spending our Capex in that area.” Reliance Communications Rev B plans Reliance Communications, which is one of the leading 3G service providers, has already identified some premium telecom markets for expanding its Revision B network. Rev B offers over a 14.7 MBps on 800 MHz spectrum which is equal to or better than in-wall experience than 3G at 2100 MHz band said Reliance Communications. The company is trying to cash in on the upcoming Rev B oriented devices. It will focus on unveiling GSM + CDMA smartphones in the market and strengthening its CDMA team within mobility business to improve voice revenue, which is a worry for Reliance Communications. By end of fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, Reliance Communications added 10,000 sites under its ICR agreements to enhance coverage and improve the quality of service. These ICR arrangements, which are based on “Pay as you use” model having tenure of about 24 months, will help the company to accrue revenue without investments. Reliance Communications’ India business earned fourth quarter revenue of Rs 4,649 crore. Voice ARPU has increased 2.1 percent to Rs 98 from Rs. 96 in Q3 FY14. Reliance Communications’ 3G site utilization fairly high The company serves 37.4 million wireless data customers. Its 3G customer base rose 16.2 percent q-o-q to 12.9 million. 34 percent of mobile Internet users on the RCOM network are 3G users. Total data usage grew 20.5 percent to 50,251 million MBs. Data usage per sub is 455 MB. Telecom analysts say Reliance Communications’ 3G customer base per 3G site seems fairly high, indicating a possible poor quality of service to its mobile data customers. Around 20-40 percent is the utilization of 3G site of RComm. Gurdeep Singh, CEO of wireless business at Reliance Communications, said: “Our data utilization per site also varies from a city to city and it is in the ballpark of 20-34 percent, depending on the city and the market.”
  10. Reliance Jio to roll out broadband service on fibre across 900 cities Press Trust of India | May 20, 2014, 07.36 PM IST Telecom company Reliance Jio will provide broadband internet services in 900 cities and towns using optical fibre for which it has finalised agreements with partners required for the roll-out. "In addition to 4G wireless services, RJIL (Reliance Jio Infocomm) is rolling out high speed internet services via FTTx in over 900 cities/towns. The high-speed fibre connectivity will enable RJIL to provide a wide gamut of digital services across various sectors," RJio said in a report. The company has completed a detailed planning for pan-India implementation of the infrastructure needed for the project. On 4G services, RJio said it is looking to provide advanced voice calling service using voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology and the company has already showcased technology successfully with Chinese telecom major China Mobile in Barcelona. "In addition to high speed data (internet) services, the 4G network will provide voice services from and to non-RJIL networks," RJio said. It added that company has also finalised some vendors for 4G devices at affordable rates and is in process of selecting some more. The company has already launched free wi-fi spots in eight locations at Ahmedabad and nine locations at Baroda and Surat. "High-speed internet trials have been provided to over 55,000 unique devices since the launch. Users are provided 72 hours of free usage which can be extended through reactivation," it said. RJio recently won spectrum in 1800 Mhz, widely known as 2G spectrum, for Rs 11,054 crore in 14 service area. This spectrum can now be used for 4G services. "RJIL plans to provide seamless 4G services using FDD LTE on 1800 Mhz and TDD LTE on 2300 Mhz through an integrated ecosystem," the company said.

  14. Trai.gov.in Trak.in TelecomTiger.com 24 Apr 2014 Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has decided to set a minimum download speed for 2G and 3G services. In this regard TRAI has published a consultation paper and will listen to public opinion till May 5. TRAI intends to set the minimum download speed for 3G and CDMA EVDO services at 1 Mbps with success rate of 95 per cent. Whereas for GSM and CDMA 2G the minimum should be 56 kbps while that for CDMA high speed data it should be 512 kbps is what the regulator feels. TRAI may also ask telecom operators to mention the minimum download speed that a data service will deliver in a tariff plan. Currently there are no rules to keep a tab on dropping speeds. Its a commendable step since customers are promised high speeds but these are rarely touched. According to TRAI, the telecom consumers availing wireless data services are not aware of the minimum download speed being offered to them by the TSPs. Generally, the tariff plans offered by the TSPs are based on the volume of data usage for various technologies, without any clarity about the speed being offered to consumers. Also, there is no commitment of minimum download speed while offering a tariff plan. TRAI has now proposed that all Indian internet users provide their inputs to them, so that the telecom companies are regulated and mandated to provide a minimum internet speed under all circumstances, something like this: TRAI added, Another alternative could be that the service providers, along with the tariff and the details of data services offered, also specify a minimum download speed that will be applicable for each plan or scheme. Accordingly, along with each tariff plan whenever they are advertised, through website, telephone bills, sale vouchers, complaint centres, and sales office, the minimum download speed is also necessarily mentioned. Moreover, whenever there is a change in the plan or speed, subscriber should be properly informed and the same should also be published through suitable advertisement. The service provider shall inform the minimum download speed along with the tariff plan while filing tariff to TRAI. TRAI has asked all Indians to send in their suggestions and ideas latest by May 5, 2014 at this email id: advqos@trai.gov.in - Counter comments can be sent by May 12, 2014 TRAI press release

I use Thomas Cook Borderless Multicurrency Prepaid Card. The personalized service is the advantage. If I need to add funds, I would transfer using Net Banking to their bank account and would ask the representative by email to load the card with the credit. Conversion rate is better than banks (at least HDFC Bank) as the RM in HDFC Bank said agents like Thomas Cook can give better rates since they deal with lot more currency exchange than banks do. BTW Verizon has the best network in US. It is CDMA, so you might want to arrange a clean ESN handset and get it activated. Prepaid plan is available for $45 with unlimited talk and text, $20 for 3 GB 4G LTE data.
  16. Yeah, very likely including new 3G connections in circles where they don't have 3G license. This new ruling also means all operators will be able to share their network for 4G as well which will help them to compete against Reliance Jio who has pan India license.
  17. Both data and voice will work seamlessly. There is no need to change or select the network as it will switch automatically. Its just like how AirTel, Idea and Vodafone are already sharing network each other in circles where they don't have 3G license. It isn't clear yet whether Reliance GSM customers in non 3G circles like AP can subscribe for new 3G connection. Supreme Court had banned AirTel, Vodafone, Idea from signing up new customers for 3G in circles where they don't have license. So I would assume Reliance will also have that limitation.
  18. What is the need for voice partnership when they already have 2G license across all circles? It is only 3G license that they did not have in few circles.
  19. RIL plans to launch Jio products & services with 2,000 Digital Xpress Mini outlets The Economic Times - 22 Apr, 2014, 04.00AM IST Reliance Industries (RIL) plans to open 2,000 exclusive outlets, Digital Xpress Mini, in the current fiscal year to sell the company's telecom services, smartphones, tablets and also accessories of other brands. These stores will be about 250 square feet and sell the upcoming services of Reliance Jio Infocomm. Reliance Jio plans to provide, later this year, all telecom services, including mobile phones and fourth generation high speed internet services. India's largest telecom services provider Bharti Airtel operates 1,700 Airtel-branded stores with majority of them operated by franchisees. In the last 14 months, Airtel rolled-out 100 such companyowned company-operated or socalled COCO stores. Reliance plans COCO format for all its upcoming stores to maintain uniformity in customer services, an official said on condition of anonymity. Communication and mobility products category were growing at a faster pace within the technology retail segment of Reliance Digital, a company spokesperson said. "Driven by rapid technology advancements, this category is witnessing faster replacement cycles. The new concept, Digital Xpress Mini, is aimed at providing a differentiated technology shopping experience to consumers and thereby reinforcing Reliance Digital's position as a front-runner in the emerging mobile retail segment," the spokesman said. Reliance is the latest in a string of companies planning microstores. Apple, that had so far shied away from going directly to the neighbourhoods and restricted their stores to high street and malls, is now planning to aggressively push with smaller stores in large and tier-II cities in a renewed India-specific strategy.
  20. USA B1 / B2 Visa Discussion

Ok, just checking if booking through a 3rd party agent (goibibo) was the reason or not. Virgin Atlantic customer care told me that online management is not available for my booking since I have more than 4 flights in the booking (mine starts from Trivandrum). For seat selection they said I can call over phone and select. I booked it before March 31. What are the other options available in the booking management page?
  21. USA B1 / B2 Visa Discussion

I got my B1 visa approved in Chennai last week. I do agree that a decision will be taken based on the DS-160 application and the visa officer just takes a final decision during the interview. So filling up your profile details properly in the DS-160 is key. The waiting time at the consulate was horrible though as I needed to wait for 3+ hours. I got the ticket on Virgin Atlantic as well. Are you able to manage the booking through virgin-atlantic.com using your name & PNR?
  22. ^^ That depends on what your usage is. File sharing or torrent usage throughout will require an unlimited plan.

  24. Reliance Jio testing 4G services in 10 locations Mumbai - March 30, 2014 The Hindu Business Line Gearing up to launch fourth generation (4G) mobile operations, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) is testing the services across 10 locations in the country. The telecom arm of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), India’s largest private sector company by revenues, intends to increase this to about 20 locations in a fortnight’s time, according to sources close to the development. The tests are being conducted on 4G on WiFi (a technology that enables wireless access of Internet), and 4G over optical fibre cable (OFC) across the locations, the sources, who declined to be identified before a formal announcement said. When contacted an RJIL spokesperson declined to comment. The present 10 locations are mainly in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Ahmedabad. In Mumbai, 4G tests are on at IIT Bombay, and at Reliance Corporate Park and Inorbit Mall at Navi Mumbai, Vashi. The testings are on at about seven locations at various malls and other places in Ahmedabad. RJIL intends to extend the testing to another 10 locales in Gujarat, including in Baroda, in the next two weeks. “Further, the company would slowly extend the testing to other towns and cities,” one of the sources said, without divulging further details. RJIL, which holds 1800 MHz spectrum across 14 circles and 2300 MHz across 22 circles, plans to launch services by October or December this year. In addition to telecom services, it is also planning to offer TV channels on its fourth generation (4G) broadband network. Firming up its rollout plans, the company recently entered into tower-sharing agreement with telecom tower firms such as Viom Networks, Bharti Infratel and Reliance Communications.
