Reliance Introduces Long-validity Std Pack For Reliance Cdma Users
Arun posted a topic in Miscellaneous
Economic Times 26 Feb 2009, 1459 hrs IST, PTI Reliance Communications on Thursday introduced a all-India long-validity pack for users of Reliance CDMA, which will bring down STD calling tariff by up to 30 paise per minute or even low. "Reliance has always kept the interest of those CDMA subscribers, who need regular calling to other Reliance CDMA subscribers," Reliance Comm Regional Head (Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand) Saleem Haq said while introducing the offer. On Rs 2,222 recharge, 500 minutes of free STD/local talktime per month for 12 month would be offered, while Rs 4,444 recharge pack gives 500 minutes of free STD/local talktime per month for lifetime. The long-validity all-India Reliance CDMA to Reliance CDMA calling packs are encouraged to increase STD usage from this segment -- which brings down Reliance to Reliance effective calling tariff to 30 paise per minute or even lower, Haq said. "This is in addition to already introduced STD calling products STVs for the benefit of those who repeatedly recharge with STD STVs every month," Haq said, adding these packs are available till March 31, 2009. -
Reliance Netconnect Broadband Evdo (with High Speed Evdo Data Cards) Coming Soon!
Arun replied to P. K. Daga's topic in Data services
If they maintain the same tariff then it will be fantastic... It will be like Unlimited 3 mbps download connection for Rs.1500 per month!!!!! BSNL's EVDO service is crappy though, hope Reliance will offer a stable connection. If it is a stable connection then I can stop TATA Indicom's broadband connection for which I'm paying Rs.1500 per month for 512 kbps unlimited. -
Actually it doesn't work in mine either. Since I don't use the keyboard I haven't noticed it before but I saw it now. If you keep your finger over the sensor, the backlight should come up right? It doesn't when I tried. Moreover if I disable/uncheck the option for the auto sensor (Settings > Buttons > Backlight tab), the backlight should show whenever the keyboard slides, but it doesn't for me even when the auto sensor is switched off. It looks like many users are experiencing this issue when I Googled for it. edit: just saw mufaddal's reply above which echoes the same, but backlight doesn't work at all for me

Can you tell me which is the "Time style" that you have selected under Settings > Regional Settings > Time tab?

1) Obviously bluetooth will consume more power 2) It will have a toll on the battery life eventually, but that will happen as a battery won't last forever and will have an end-of-life after long usage. It shouldn't cause any issues in the hardware though.

Linux Web Hosting - Cheap And Best
Arun replied to savramesh's topic in General Technical Discussion
Nettigritty is one of the best Indian web host. What problem are you having with them or why do you want to move away from them? All the requirements that you mentioned should be fine with them. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you go cheap, you will probably end up in an oversold server. -
Bids Invited For Number Portability
Arun replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Mobile number portability by August: Raja 22 Feb 2009, 1858 hrs IST Press Trust of India Mobile customers need no longer worry about the need to change numbers when they opt for a different operator as the Centre plans to introduce mobile number portability in the country by August this year. "The mobile number portability enabling customers to retain their old number while shifting from one operator to another would be launched in major cities by August this year," Union Minister for IT and Communication A Raja told reporters here on the occasion of launch of BSNL's 3G services. He said the service would be launched in major cities by August and subsequently in other cities by end of this year. Reacting to the announcement, BSNL Chairman Kuldeep Goyal, who was also present, said that it "was a welcome step" and expressed hope BSNL would get many new subscribers because of this. -
Economic Times 22 Feb 2009, 1639 hrs IST By the 27th of this month, mobile telephony will enter its third generation (3G) in 12 cities in India, courtesy the state owned telecom service provider BSNL. Union minister for communication and IT A Raja launched BSNL's 3G services pan India, from Chennai, on Sunday, by making the first video call to TN chief minister M Karunanidhi. The PSU was awarded one block of 2*5 MHz 3G spectrum in all telecom circles in the country, six months before, without participating in the auction, at a price equal to the winning bids in the respective circles, in the auctions to be held before March 31st. "Considering the need for faster penetration of 3G, and the need for telecom access to rual areas, the Government policy will allow telecom infrastructure sharing between commercial telcos as well as infrastructure providers," Mr.Raja said. DoT also plans enable mobile number portability (MNP) in major cities by August, and in other towns by end of this year. Bids have been invited of providing MNP switches. On the occasion, BSNL also launched its India Golden 50 tariff scheme, where, by increasing the pulse duration for all calls to 120 s, the tariffs have been have been reduced by 50-80%. Presently, a pulse is calculated at 90 s for national calls to other networks and 60 s within network. "Besides upgrading mobile data speeds to 2 mbps from the present 144 kbps, we will also offer video screening of calls, video on demand, mobile surveillance, Live TV, movie downloads etc on our 3G platform," BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal said. For this, the company will scale up tie-ups with its existing content providers. However, the telco will not be providing its previously launched IPTV service, which has garnered 5000 subscribers, on 3G. "We plan to operate 5 million lines spanning all district headquarters and important towns by end of this year at an investment of Rs.2700 crore," Mr Goyal said. "We expect 5% of our 2G subscribers to migrate to 3G." The company expects a revenue addition of Rs 500-1000 crore by this customer addition, and a 20% revenue augmentation by infrastructure sharing. BSNL has tied up with Nokia, Sony and Samsung for handset bundling, the cheapest of which is priced at Rs.7000. Voice tariff schemes begin from a fixed monthly charge of Rs.350 for prepaid, and Rs 500 for postpaid. Data subscriptions are available starting Rs 250. The company has tied up with Micromax and Huawei for offering laptop data cards at prices ranging form Rs 3800 to 6000. "Trials are on to launch mobile banking on our 2G and 3G platforms," Mr Goyal said.

Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
Arun replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
India's 3G, WiMax rollout may be pushed to 2010 ZDNet Asia Friday, February 20, 2009 03:31 PM Although Telecommunication Minister A. Raja this week said it is possible to hold auctions for India's 3G spectrum by Mar. 31, experts doubt the current government will proceed with haste in this realm. Nupur Singh Andley, senior research analyst for connectivity at Springboard Research, told ZDNet Asia in a phone interview: "It is doubtful that the private players will roll out 3G services within the next eight months. In fact, we may see the roll out of 3G and WiMax only in 2010." Naveen Mishra, communications research analyst at IDC India, concurred: "We expect the launch of 3G and WiMax services by private operators to get pushed to at least the last quarter of 2009." While the government were given 3G airwaves to state-owned telecom operators--Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL)--the launch of 3G and WiMax services by private players has been delayed. In January, the Cabinet referred the proposal to auction 3G and BWA (broadband wireless access) spectrum to a group of ministers, thereby delaying the bid indefinitely. This was prompted by differences of opinion among ministries over the base price for the auctions and number of licenses to award. While the Department of Telecom had set the base price for the pan-India 3G spectrum at US$406.6 million (INR 20.2 billion) and for the BWA spectrum at US$203.3 million (INR 10.1 billion), the finance ministry had demanded the floor price for both be doubled. The issue became further complicated when the Planning Commission, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, and the IT ministry opposed moves to double the base price. Mishra told ZDNet Asia in an e-mail interview that although leading telecom operators already ran trials of 3G services, they would need about six months from the allotment of the 3G spectrum to offer these services. This time lag is because telecom operators have not placed orders for 3G network equipment, which takes around six months to procure. Given the uncertainties over the auction, operators do not want to take risks and will place orders only after the auction. Delay can hurt growth Despite the global recession, the Indian telecom market has been growing at a fast pace of 50 percent per annum. India added 113.26 million new customers in 2008, taking the total number of mobile subscribers to around 350 million by end-December. India also added over 2.3 million broadband connections in 2008, registering a growth of more than 74 percent. The market growth is happening on the 2G platform, even as 120 countries across the world have already migrated to 3G. D. K. Ghosh, chairman and managing director of ZTE Telecom India, told ZDNet Asia in an e-mail: "It would be naive to expect the Indian telecom industry to keep following the growth trajectory, despite other industries facing the recession. If the current market scenario continues for another year or more, we might see the negative effects on the telecom industry." Springboard's Singh Andley said: "Delay in spectrum allocation is demoralizing the sentiment, especially for international investors." According to Ghosh, both 3G and WiMax technologies have the potential to put a virtual PC with a broadband connection in the hands of over 350 million mobile users in the country. Industry reports estimate that a 10 percentage rise in mobile usage can lead to 0.5 percent increase in GDP (Gross Domestic Product). "Going by this estimate, the gains each year for India, which is already a trillion-dollar economy, could be as high as US$50 billion," Ghosh said, adding that the rapid adoption of 3G can solve the twin problems of low broadband and PC penetration. "The delay [in the launch of 3G and WiMax services] has been hindering the growth of not just the telecom industry but also the country," he said. Mishra concurred, noting that any delay in launching this aspect will result in India lagging behind global markets where people are already consuming such services. As voice tariffs in India are one of the lowest in the world, operators would like to launch value-added services to sustain and improve their current ARPU (average revenue per user) levels, he said. Competing wireless technologies? Last month, the WiMax Forum, which certifies and promotes interoperability between broadband wireless products, launched its Global Roaming Program that lets operators and vendors easily obtain information required to establish WiMax roaming services. This has raised questions on whether 3G and WiMax technologies are complementary to each other or will compete over time. In India, companies such as Tata Communications, Intel, BSNL and Reliance Communications, are proponents of WiMax and most of the companies have already done beta-runs of the technology. Mishra noted that not all telecom operators in the country will win 3G spectrum licenses, and some of them "will have to bank on bagging BWA spectrum licenses, which will allow them to offer mobile WiMax services". He added: "3G and WiMax would compete with each other." However, most experts believe WiMax and 3G technologies can coexist. Raghu Prasad, Oracle's Asia-Pacific and Japan communications senior director of business transformation, said in an e-mail interview: "It is very likely that in a diverse market such as India, both 3G and WiMax will find their pockets of use and influence." Singh Andley said: "While the advent of 3G will help in the growth of e-medicine, e-government, e-health, m-commerce and e-learning, WiMax will increase broadband connectivity, especially in India's rural areas." The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India is banking on both 3G and WiMax to increase the country's broadband penetration, setting a target of 20 million broadband connections by 2010, up from the current 4.3 million connections. Ghosh said: "The industry is expecting both WiMax and 3G to bridge this gap." -

It could be either: * The port is blocked * Network route problem Contact the game provider and ask them: 1) whether the software connects through any particular port? If yes, what is the port number? 2) As for the hostname/IP to which the software is connecting so that you can run a trace route command from your PC to check network route.

Updated : Wireless Subscribers In India
Arun replied to Honest's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
It's raining subscribers Business Standard Mumbai February 17, 2009, 0:30 IST The GSM fraternity managed to sign on 9.3 million subscribers in January despite Reliance Communications’ attractive introductory offer for its new service. All GSM players managed to maintain or improve absolute subscriber additions in January compared with December---on a high base, Bharti added 2.3 million subscribers in January over the same number in December. Idea cellular trebled its share in the Mumbai market, albeit on a low base. RCom, for its part added five million (including GSM) subscribers during the month, numbers that have both surprised and confounded the market. According to Citigroup, “Although the Indian wireless has never been a zero sum game, we don’t think the market could have expanded from 10 million net additions to 16 million. This is particularly because RCom’s coverage is not as deep, at least to start with, and it would have competed for subscribers in areas with relatively high penetration. Also the net additions of GSM incumbents were not impacted in the Metro/A/B category circles.” The RCom stock closed 6 per cent lower in Monday’s trading session at Rs 171.15 while the Sensex fell 3 per cent. Even if the number of subscribers has been high, what’s more important is how profitable they are going to be for RCom. The management has said that users have started recharging after using the free minutes of talk time offered as part of the introductory package. However, what kind of average revenue per user (arpu) and the average revenue per minute (rpm), the telco is clocking remains to be seen. RCom’s arpus, for the CDMA network, have trended downwards over the last seven quarters and stood at Rs 251 in the December 2008 quarter versus Rs 324 for Bharti. Thus, RCom’s arpus have tended to be lower than those for the market leader. Idea Cellular, which launched its service in Mumbai a few months back, saw a sequential rise in arpus in the December 2008 quarter. Also, whether users of Reliance’s CDMA network have moved over to its GSM network remains to be seen because industry watchers point out that high-end user may not be averse to switching over to the GSM network even if it means buying a new handset.
