  1. With a soft launch expected later this month in at least a few cities for Jio services, here are their preview websites that are getting ready for the launch. :clap1:

jioconnect.com appears to be the portal for Jio MiFi, WiFi & FTTH services. The preview website is available at: http://preview.jioconnect.com:7777/

FAQ page has lots of information: http://preview.jioconnect.com:7777/cs/jio/support.html

jioworld.com seems to be the website for the Jio World app for connecting to Jio WiFi hotspots from your phone. Apps are not seen in Play Store or iTunes store yet. The preview website is accessible here: http://49.40.2.94:8080/cgi-bin/gl_productpage.py

FAQ page for the Jio World app is accessible at: http://www.jioworld.com/wordpress/frequently-asked-questions/

jio.com is the primary website for Reliance Jio, but I couldn't find any preview website for it yet. wifi.jio.com was listed in the FAQs as intranet login URL for Jio WiFi services.

I think they will initially (later this month?) start MiFi service, WiFi hostspots and FTTH along with the digital media services in a few cities. When I called up the newly opened Reliance Digital Xpress Mini store in Trivandrum, they said that it is unlikely to start this month here.

4G/VoLTE services on your handset like a conventional mobile service provider might be starting later next year only, probably since the network isn't ready yet in all circles and everywhere. A full fledged network is needed for that.

Interestingly, there is a "Volte Basic Offer" listed in the products page though with not much details. There is also a "K Touch" phone picture in the home page which is a Chineese brand: http://www.k-touch.cn/en/lte

Also interesting to see this in the FAQ: "If you move out of 4G coverage area, you will be automatically latched on to 2G/3G network" - they don't have a 2G/3G network to fallback though?

The listed MiFi devices use Band 40 (2300 Mhz), could they be looking to use Band 3 (1800 Mhz) for handsets later?

I'm not sure if the Rs.1 and Rs.4 for FTTH (installation charge?) are placeholders to be updated earlier or could they be actual pricing considering that it's from Mukesh Ambani? :surprise:

  3. Reliance Jio to roll out broadband service on fibre across 900 cities
Press Trust of India | May 20, 2014, 07.36 PM IST

Telecom company Reliance Jio will provide broadband internet services in 900 cities and towns using optical fibre for which it has finalised agreements with partners required for the roll-out.

"In addition to 4G wireless services, RJIL (Reliance Jio Infocomm) is rolling out high speed internet services via FTTx in over 900 cities/towns. The high-speed fibre connectivity will enable RJIL to provide a wide gamut of digital services across various sectors," RJio said in a report.

The company has completed a detailed planning for pan-India implementation of the infrastructure needed for the project.

On 4G services, RJio said it is looking to provide advanced voice calling service using voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology and the company has already showcased technology successfully with Chinese telecom major China Mobile in Barcelona. "In addition to high speed data (internet) services, the 4G network will provide voice services from and to non-RJIL networks," RJio said.

It added that company has also finalised some vendors for 4G devices at affordable rates and is in process of selecting some more.

The company has already launched free wi-fi spots in eight locations at Ahmedabad and nine locations at Baroda and Surat. "High-speed internet trials have been provided to over 55,000 unique devices since the launch. Users are provided 72 hours of free usage which can be extended through reactivation," it said.

RJio recently won spectrum in 1800 Mhz, widely known as 2G spectrum, for Rs 11,054 crore in 14 service area. This spectrum can now be used for 4G services.

"RJIL plans to provide seamless 4G services using FDD LTE on 1800 Mhz and TDD LTE on 2300 Mhz through an integrated ecosystem," the company said.

Reliance Communications is planning to focus on 3G and REV-B network expansion with a Capex (capital spending) of nearly Rs 2,000 crore during fiscal 2015.

The Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications invested around Rs 1,500 crore during fiscal 2014. Rs 2,000 crore is one of the poor Capex plans for an operator with around 37.4 million plus mobile data subscriber base.

Reliance Communications is following Capex Lite strategy. This means, it will not increase its Capex substantially.

Vinod Sawhny, CEO of Reliance Communications, during a recent analyst meet, said: “We will bolster our network. This could be through ICR arrangements. We will add REV-B onto our CDMA network, and our focus will be on enhancing network experience of our customers and we would be spending our Capex in that area.”

    Reliance Communications Rev B plans

Reliance Communications, which is one of the leading 3G service providers, has already identified some premium telecom markets for expanding its Revision B network. Rev B offers over a 14.7 MBps on 800 MHz spectrum which is equal to or better than in-wall experience than 3G at 2100 MHz band said Reliance Communications.

The company is trying to cash in on the upcoming Rev B oriented devices. It will focus on unveiling GSM + CDMA smartphones in the market and strengthening its CDMA team within mobility business to improve voice revenue, which is a worry for Reliance Communications.

By end of fourth quarter of fiscal 2014, Reliance Communications added 10,000 sites under its ICR agreements to enhance coverage and improve the quality of service. These ICR arrangements, which are based on “Pay as you use” model having tenure of about 24 months, will help the company to accrue revenue without investments.

Reliance Communications’ India business earned fourth quarter revenue of Rs 4,649 crore. Voice ARPU has increased 2.1 percent to Rs 98 from Rs. 96 in Q3 FY14.

Reliance Communications’ 3G site utilization fairly high

The company serves 37.4 million wireless data customers. Its 3G customer base rose 16.2 percent q-o-q to 12.9 million. 34 percent of mobile Internet users on the RCOM network are 3G users. Total data usage grew 20.5 percent to 50,251 million MBs. Data usage per sub is 455 MB.

Telecom analysts say Reliance Communications’ 3G customer base per 3G site seems fairly high, indicating a possible poor quality of service to its mobile data customers. Around 20-40 percent is the utilization of 3G site of RComm.

Gurdeep Singh, CEO of wireless business at Reliance Communications, said: “Our data utilization per site also varies from a city to city and it is in the ballpark of 20-34 percent, depending on the city and the market.”

  5. I use Thomas Cook Borderless Multicurrency Prepaid Card. The personalized service is the advantage. If I need to add funds, I would transfer using Net Banking to their bank account and would ask the representative by email to load the card with the credit. Conversion rate is better than banks (at least HDFC Bank) as the RM in HDFC Bank said agents like Thomas Cook can give better rates since they deal with lot more currency exchange than banks do.

BTW Verizon has the best network in US. It is CDMA, so you might want to arrange a clean ESN handset and get it activated. Prepaid plan is available for $45 with unlimited talk and text, $20 for 3 GB 4G LTE data.

If we are using data and want to make a call then how we will change network. Or we have to manually select network eachtime we make call and then change it again if we want to use data.

Both data and voice will work seamlessly. There is no need to change or select the network as it will switch automatically. Its just like how AirTel, Idea and Vodafone are already sharing network each other in circles where they don't have 3G license.

    Dear arun

Will this be applicable to customer like us who are in AP and want to take Reliance 3g connection on postpaid and then roam around india

    Please clarify. ...

Sent from my GT-I9082 using Tapatalk 2

It isn't clear yet whether Reliance GSM customers in non 3G circles like AP can subscribe for new 3G connection. Supreme Court had banned AirTel, Vodafone, Idea from signing up new customers for 3G in circles where they don't have license. So I would assume Reliance will also have that limitation.

  7. But will this partnership be only for 3G data roaming? Why not voice also..

They already had intra-circle tie-ups across India since July last year for voice and data with various operators..

How would that co-exist with the new 3G data roam pact, is a Q

What is the need for voice partnership when they already have 2G license across all circles? It is only 3G license that they did not have in few circles.

    28 April 2014

Reliance Communications today announced strategic Inter-Circle roaming partnerships with other leading telecom companies to offer non-stop and best-in-class pan-India 3G services to its GSM customers while roaming. With this alliance, all existing and new 3G customers of Reliance Communications will be able to access high-speed pan-India 3G services while roaming outside the Company's own 3G circles.

"We are delighted to be the first operator to offer 3G national roaming to our customers in partnership with other telecom firms having state-of-the-art 3G networks. These alliances will further consolidate RCOM's position as the leading data operator in the country and will help the Company improve its post-paid and Corporate customer marketshare," Gurdeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Business, Reliance Communications Limited, said.

"We have always delivered innovative products and services to our customers with incredible affordability and, at RCOM, we strongly believe in connecting every Indian and bringing about a discernible change not just in their lifestyles, but in their lives as well," he added.

Reliance Communications offers 3G services in 13 Circles nationally-Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam, North East, Jammu & Kashmir. With the new 3G roaming partnerships with other leading Indian telecom companies, customers of RCOM can now enjoy affordable and non-stop 3G data services across the country while roaming.

Its agreement with TTSL gives it access to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana and UP west. The partnership gives Aircel and Tata Teleservices access to most expensive service areas of Delhi and Mumbai where RCom has permits

This unique offer will also add immense value to frequent domestic travelers and provide them with ease of use, and seamless 3G data connectivity across the country. For instance, RCOM's 3G customers in Delhi and Mumbai will now also be able to avail of the same quality of 3G data services when roaming in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kochi in the southern region of the country; UP-East and UP-West in North India; and Gujarat and Maharashtra in the western part of the country.
