  1. Yah their server down time seems to be quite a lot. Sometimes, I wonder if they give that as an excuse not to process the work.
  2. Opinions on Samsung SCH-N191 Handset

I like the quick dial feature in this phone. Say, your home phone number is the 10th entry in the phonebook, pressing 10 and holding the 2nd digit (0 in this case) for a couple of second dials that phone number. 300 such entries can be possible. Just hold the last digit for a couple of seconds.
  3. Reliance Network

For all we know it could have been Dec 2004 or optimistically 2005. However, the fight between the big and li'l Ambanai, and reorganization, has ensured that time and resources have been reallocated accordingly!
  4. Great news indeed. So has anybody seen or experienced it in action? Say, if calls were to come on both numbers simultaneously, could one pick which number to answer? I wonder!
  5. Airtel Vs Hutch: And The Winner Is...

Hutch and Airtel, do they provide data transfer capabilities like Reliance where we can use our handset as a modem? What about the cost of such data transfer if any?
  6. End Of The World In 1,000 Years ?

Hey, when an automobile is on the move, a lot of wind energy is generated. Why don't they come up with mini wind-power units fitted on vehicles to tap this energy?

  9. OneIndia tariff likely on Monday Press Trust of India New Delhi BSNL and MTNL are likely to announce the much-awaited Re. 1-a-minute STD rates for their fixed line users under OneIndia plan on Monday. Though MTNL and BSNL initially resisted the move, predicting that the plan may incur losses, the two public sector units are understood to have agreed to the proposal through different slabs. The proposals also involve mobile STD rates. As per the estimates, BSNL could lose up to Rs. 5,000 crore annually due to One-India tariff but is hoping to make over with a hike in traffic. Last week, Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran convened a series of meetings with top executives of BSNL to hammer out OneIndia compliant tariffs. Confusion, however, continues to prevail over whether the two PSUs will come out with uniform call rates across the country or will announce different tariff plans offering STD rates at Re. 1 a minute. Officials from both PSUs declined to comment on the issue. Mr. Maran said the fresh rates under OneIndia, the Minister's ambitious initiative, might not cause any increase in rates of local calls or rentals but pulses could be lowered on the calls.
  10. Hope they don't select April 1st as the next day to fool all of us (grin)
  11. Any Handset With Both Cdma & Gsm?

If you can get the handset from China.......... Read below! Introduction on "Worldwind" Dual-mode Mobile Phone Services "Worldwind" dual-mode mobile phone service is a brand new mobile communications service launched exclusively by China Unicom with the aim of meeting the different needs of its users. It enables users to enjoy both CDMA and GSM services by switching between the two networks freely with only one dual-mode handset. The service is made possible by using either dual-mode cards or dual-mode handsets. 1. Dual-mode Technology GSM/CDMA dual-mode handset is equipped with dual sockets, which is compatible to both CDMA/GSM handsets. The dual sockets built on the handset is adaptable to any of those cards including UIM cards, SIM cards issued by China Unicom or other operators, as well as dual-mode cards newly launched by China Unicom. After inserting SIM cards, users are able to use GSM service provided by the corresponding operator. When inserting UIM cards, users can access CDMA network. When inserting dual-mode cards, users have the option to choose either GSM or CDMA network of China Unicom. Dual-mode card is a handset card using a single handset number, which allows users to switch between CDMA and GSM networks freely and achieve roaming services across the two networks. The handset number of dual-mode card can be any numbers ranging from 130/131/132/133 and the phone number itself is not an indication of the network related. 2. Features of "Worldwind" service (i) Value-added service : While retaining the original GSM basic services, the existing GSM subscribers of China Unicom or other operators can have an additional choice to enjoy high-speed and attractive value-added services provided by CDMA 1X network. (ii) Global Roaming : The failure of providing automatic roaming service between the GSM and CDMA networks has indeed brought people a lot of inconvenience when going abroad as countries such as South Korea and North America mainly adopt CDMA technology, while most of European countries use GSM technology. The most obvious characteristic of "Worldwind" service is it supports optional switching between GSM and CDMA networks, that means "Worldwind" users will be able to enjoy the communication services provided by those overseas operators that have signed the agreement with domestic operators on GSM/CDMA roaming services when traveling abroad. "Worldwind" can provide roaming services in all those countries and regions that are covered by domestic GSM and CDMA handsets, much more extensive than single-mode handset will do. It achieves the provision of international roaming services on a global basis with one handset on hand. (iii) Network Coverage : None of the mobile communications network is able to achieve a 100% perfect coverage, however with free switching between the two networks, the occurrence of blind areas or spots will be greatly minimized. (iv) Retaining numbers : Dual-mode card users only need to have one number for using China Unicom's GSM and CDMA services. For those GSM subscribers of other operators who want to enjoy the service of CDMA network while retaining their existing numbers, to make it possible, they can simply use a combination of SIM and UIM cards on the dual-mode handsets.

  14. Lifetime validity offers galore

Hutch offers lifetime card @ Rs 999 December 26, 2005 14:43 IST Close on the heels of Airtel launching a lifetime prepaid card, Hutch on Monday announced a lifetime validity scheme for its prepaid subscribers at Rs 999. "With the new 'Chalta Rahe' recharge, Hutch prepaid users across the country can now go mobile for life by making a one-time payment of Rs 999," the company said in a statement in New Delhi. Now, lifetime validity plan from Airtel In addition, they will also get full talk time for all subsequent recharges (net of applicable service tax). The Chalta Rahe Prepaid recharge is expected to dramatically increase the affordability of a prepaid mobile connection, it said. This offering is available to existing and new subscribers. Those opting for Chalta Rahe Recharge will pay Rs 1.99/minute for all local calls and Rs 2.99/minute for all STD calls. In addition, this recharge comes with a Rs 25 worth in-built talk time. This recharge, however, cannot be combined with any other promotional offer, the company said. With Chalta Rahe prepaid card, the company said: "Users do not need to buy validity recharges every month and will no longer be required to recharge every month to remain mobile without being worried about losing validity or expiration of their prepaid connection." It will also offer full talk time on all future recharges and customers can subsequently top-up with any amount and get full talk time but customers will need to recharge with the minimum available recharge (currently just Rs 10) at least once in 6 months to stay mobile. Three months ago, Hutch had launched a prepaid recharge card costing just Rs 10. Before Airtel, Tata Teleservices had launched two years' validity on its pre-paid cards. Naveen Chopra, corporate vice president (group marketing) Hutchison Essar, said this innovation will bring a significant change in the mobile industry as we know it. Going mobile will now become significantly more affordable. A reasonable one-time entry cost combined with low denomination, full talk time recharges thereafter will encourage increased adoption of mobile telephone. Hutchison Essar group of companies has over 10.68 million mobile users under the Hutch brands. <TOPIC MERGED!>

  21. RIM Helpline / Service Nos.

Actually until around the migration to the 93 series, *334 was going directly to customer support bypassing the menus. Since then it has been allocated to broadband, which is again just a duplicate of *377. Effectively, *334/377 are duplicates.
  22. Rim Web Fading?

Customer service also seems to have improved marginally, so fewer complaints. People are generally happy, I guess.
