  1. Mobile Tv

Hi, Recently i went to Doordarshan office & there i came to know that dd is working on some type of mobile tv technology. I thought it must be IPTV but to my surprize, it was something else. I was lucky enough to go there & have a glimpse of it. I saw that on a Nokia N92 some dd channel was running. As i changed the channel some other channel was visible, very clear video & audio reception. I was told that this service is under test run these days & will be officially available to consumers next month. Although anyone having Mobile Tv enabled handset can watch it now also within a rdius of 12km. When i asked which service provider is going to run this service on its network? i was told that service provider got nothing to do with this service. This service does not comes through any kind of data transfer or GPRS. This service is just like your handset picks up FM radio signals from the air. Similarly your mobile handset will pick tv signals from air. There's no need of any data transfer or buffering. This service is free of cost. Presently only 16 of DD channels will be aired. The region will be Delhi. A lot of people were misunderstanding this service as iptv but it is different . it's called DVB-H TV broadcast( also called Terestrial Tv). INDIA IS FIFTH NATION IN THE WORLD TO LAUNCH THIS SERVICE. Presently only two handsets in India support this service. 1. Nokia N92 (cost around 30k) http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n92-1346.php 2. Nokia N77 (about to launch, cost around 17k) http://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_n77-1859.php
  2. Mobile Tv

Mobile tv was there since long back. I hope u remember those Hutch ads which quoted "we have shrunk your tv". Any type of tv available on mobile is just like watching tv on the internet. 1. it requires an internet connection. (gprs or any medium for data transfer) 2. it requires buffering. 3. there's a bill to be paid for this service. But mobile tv from DD is different. it's just like attaching an antenna to your tv set & watching programmes for free. Its exactely like you hear fm on your mobile. You can hear fm irrespective to which service provider you have. Even if the sim is not active u can do that. Similarly mobile tv is a free service. It does not require any internet connection to watch tv on your mobile. Which is quite revolutionising. All other service providers are working on mobile tv just to increase data transfer & thus increase their revenue. The cost of watching tv on moblie will ultimately bourn by the consumer.
  3. New Mobile Connection

yeah, tata billing is like that. First they charge all ur calls & sms at standard rates & at the time of generating bills the make all the reductions as per your plan & add ons. no one will give u 3000 national sms @ 50rs. so tata is the best option for u. its better u talk to some senior executive at tata & ask them to increase ur credit limit & also make some security deposit.

  9. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

If u call any CC of any company you'll find the same problem. In most of the call centres the people employed are not experts. Most of them r barely 12th passed kids who get very low packages. & above all most of them are least intrested in companies plans & technology. One strange thing that always happens with me whenever i call a cc is the on my first call the executive simply denies of the feature which i want to enable. But if i make 3-4 calls to cc & talk to different exec. everytime then i get the work done. i 'v had this experience with Rel cc ,Idea cc, Airtel cc, Dolphin(mtnl) cc & even with indicom cc. So now i don't bother if the cc fails to help me out in one call. Even if u go to their showrooms (webworld, hub etc) you'll will see that they only know wahtever is written on the brochure they don't know anything beyond that. U ask them one technical question & they just fail to help u any longer. I believe any of our Rimweb regular member knows much more then those cc executive. I think Rimweb membership should be made mandatory for all cc executives Atleast after reading all posts they'll get to know subscriber's troubles. There are many service providers like Airtel, Dolphin, Idea which allows to change plan only from the next month's bill cylce.(but remember these companies don't charge 1month rental in advance for plan migration Read This). I don't know which terms & conditions did indicom changed with u but according to TRAI all service providers are free to introduce/withdraw any package according to their wish. ( this is mentioned in some hidden page of 'Terms & condition' on their website) so u can't do any thing about it. They r businessmen whose prime aim is just to extract more money not social service so u just have to live with it.
  10. Please Help Me To Decide (gsm / Cdma)

Hey, Tata Still Gives 'Rome Like Home' Feature Tata Roaming After TRAI regulations on roaming they have rather reduced their incoming on roaming charge from Rs 2.65 to Rs 1.75 in all their plans. Outgoing while in roaming location charges are just the same as per your plan in home location. Click Here& compare any 3 plans by tata & you'll get roaming charges details. I did'nt knew that Reliance is not giving anymore 'Rome like Home' Feature. well it could prove to be another reason why subscribers would want to get rid of Rel Mobile.
  11. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

Dear Raccoon, it hardly matters to change your number, even i had to go through this phase ( but i retained my old number, got it converted into lifelong & kept it in the closet for sometime) but within 3 months all my friends got my new number even though i did'nt messaged anyone about the changed number. if u are getting better service, its worth changing your number.
  12. Please Help Me To Decide (gsm / Cdma)

Hey Dhiraj, Do read all the posts in the thread which Racoon mentioned above. You'll surely come to a better conclusion. I m also eager to buy a new high-end handset but i m also confused weather to invest on 6275 or some gsm phone (sony erickson w710. They both have same price tag). I m not satisfied with rel service so, if i buy 6275 it'll be a waste the day i terminate my rel connection, although it can be used on tata (only on tata apart from rel) but who knows which day tata too withdraws all those lucrative plans from the market ? (like it just withdraw its very unique & popular package of 'free unlimited incoming on roaming')Read This. As far as your queries are concerned i believe u can even reduce your monthly bill by using gsm but only if u select an appropriate plan available in your circle. One thing i really dislike about GSM & like about CDMA is the feature that it works as local phone in roaming locations (it is a great feature for those who travel a lot). Its really hard to sell cdma handsets but to sell gsm handsets u don't need to put it on Buy/Sell thread on rimweb. It's sold anywhere. This is a question most often asked by people. I think it hardly matters unless u are a hardcore programmer/developer who needs to experiment a lot on gateways & networks. Being just a user i think any plan either gsm or cdma which serves your requirements to the nearest is a product worth buying. Any plan that gives maximum value for money ( & above all 'peace of mind' [which is not seen with rel users ]) u should go for it. & Don't forget to sms your new number to all your friends (using DAPO for the last time). Regards
  13. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

Don't worry Racoon, the purpose of your post will be served. Almost all of Rim users are just waiting for the 'last nail in the coffin' to kick rim out of their life. The only thing that prevents them from doing son is the love for their number & unavailability of not very attractive plans in the market. If rel keep on depriving their customer from important features ( i was shocked to know that Rim prepaid in not having basic feature like call waiting ). then definately people will be forced to change their service provider. By the way i'v heard that in states like Haryana/Punjab GSM providers are offering 10p/sms nationwide, if sent through gprs. Does anyone knows about it ??
  14. Gsm Handsets

we'v discussed a lot about cdma handsets, many experts on rimweb gave their valuable knowledge about them; but as there r very limited cdma handsets but still lot of knowledge was shared. I always wonder what knowledge will be gained if we discuss about handsets which are available in very large variety. i just want to know which handsets do u use & most important why you choose it ?
  15. Gsm Handsets

i am using Nokia 6230 for more than 2 yrs. its features:- Stereo mp3 Stereo FM vga camera Memory card slot (i have 512mb mmc) EDGE Excellent pc connectivity i m really satisfied with its performance. It has everything one looks for in a mobile.
  16. Gsm Handsets

What is the SMS store capacity on NGAGE QD? Is it 999 or is it more? I also have the same one, but of late i get inbox full, delete older sms's messages very often. I notice from the SMS settings that the sent items max limit is 999 or is it for all SMS? Any otehr way to increase the store capacity on NGAGE? we cannot transfer the SMS's to the MMC also, I suppose? or is it possible? Thanks hey Khs123, i'v got this s/w for N gage & series 60 phones. Its called Ngage patch. What this s/w does is it converts MMC as the primary merory storage of the phone. Whereas by default the Primary storage memory is the phone memory. So it's benefit is that u can save as many sms as ur mmc capacity, u can transfer & receive much bigger files through bluetooth.(by default u can not transfer files bigger than phone memory which is only 7mb). I have that s/w but i have to search it in my collection. i'll mail it to u as soon as i find it.
  17. Motorola Want To Rock Cdma

it's available for 22k in delhi
  18. Let DD launch this technology successfully, after that you'll see many channels coming to u through DD network itself.
  19. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

i 'v mentioned my gsm tariff above in post #5 http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?s=&a...ost&p=82890 well the call rates are not very cheap in my city but my plan proves to be quite economical as compared to other gsm plans.
  20. Motorola Moto Razor V3m

hey i just wanted to know what is the current price of v3m & what is the printed price on the box ? Also tell me is it Ruim based ?
  21. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

hey Racoon, isn't it possible that any of your friend using a corporate connection buys another & give it u ? well I know its a bit insecure thing but atleast i'v bought few for some of my very reliable & trustworthy friends. ( u can get it transferred to your name after a few months & if it does'nt; even then it hardly matters if u keep on using a connection on your friend's name for an year or two. lol )
  22. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

corporate plans depends on many factors. The company where u work have some agreement with mobile firm. so the service provider gives a few add on advantage like... no clip charges strong network within office premises free itemized bill very cheap calls within the group few free sms no std deposits etc. But nowdays other service providers also provide corporate connection even if they dont have an agreement with the firm. They normally send their representative outside your office with very attractive plans to offer. These people really offer good plans as compared to general plans. Ask in your office if anyone having corporate connection. & if u like that plan then call its cc & ask for that plan for yourself. But now as u have airtel connection i suggest that u wait for sometime & keep an eye on new plans offered in your city. You'll surely get some great plan which will compensate foe the pain u suffered with Rel lol
  23. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

Dear Raccoon, well there are chances that u might get same fantastic plan. B'coz gsm providers still bother to add a new customer. Don't go to showrooms rather visit every provider's website & write a mail mentioning that u r intrested in getting a new connection. & when u get a call from them mention your desired 'fantastic plan' & u might get that plan. Atleast I always get the best deals that way. By the way what kind of plan r u looking for ? & what plan r u currently using on Rel ? if u r a heavy user of local + std + sms & are ready to pay 600+ bill then i find this gsm plan in your circle quite impressive...... http://www.ideacellular.com/IDEA.portal?_n..._super_549.html Click above link---> Select your circle---->select 'Super 549' plan from dropdowm menu. u can better judge a plan according to your requirements.
  24. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

hey raccoon, who told u that u can't change handsets between cdma operators ? All nokia phones (atleast hi-end phones like 6265, 6275 & 2865) can be easily switched between operators. But i m also afraid in investing on an expensive cdma phone as forever it will remain dependent on service providers & i'll have to stick to it( both handset & service provider). No service provider either tata or Rel officially allows to use handset of other service provider. U can only do it with your 'hit n trial' method. So i still believe that keeping one high end gsm phone for quenching your tech thirst & one inexpensive cdma phone for cheap calls will be a good option. As the way gsm is slashing their rates (& cdma raising rates) very soon there will be no difference between call rate of gsm & cdma. Perhaps gsm will prove to be cheaper overall. That day cdma connections & handsets will become useless. Even today if u properly search in your city about the gsm plans (ask some students & office guys b'coz good plans are never found on websites) you'll definately find some plan which matches your requirements & are economical too. khs123, i m not able to test LMS as my tata handset can only type upto 160 chars. & as far as multiple sms packs are concerned i think u can't have more than one pack in a month. As somewhere hidden on tata Indicom website i found this in terms & conditions section...... http://www.tataindicom.com/personal/mobile..._conditions.asp Now i dont know weather these rules also apply on add on packages (having unlimited calls or sms) offered by the company ? if yes, then tata too is a useless option.
  25. Discuss Pros And Cons Of Reliance

Hey Mahendra Jain, I think u are the most lucky man among all of us as u have never faced any trouble with the cc & they solved all your problems. . But i really had very bad experience with rel cc. Once a psycho cc exec misbehaved & shouted at me just for the reason that i askerd for a paln which he did'nt knew about & was unable to find on his system. Although i made a complaint against him to senior official & they apologized for it. Raccoon, i do have a Gsm connection (idea) & the service is good. But i tell u that none of my friends using GSM have a plan that could beat Tata's 'Biz Silver' plan in terms of economy. Although i have a Special Plan for my idea (gsm) connection (Rs 699/- adv rental for 3 yrs, Free clip+free 50 local sms +free itemized bill. local=Rs1, std=Rs2, cug calls =30p, sms=60p, Gprs= 2paise/kb). This plan is much better & cheaper than any lifetime or adv rental plan. As far as LMS on tata is concerned i haven't really experimented about it as i use gsm for sms. But i'll check & let u know. lol
