  3. LG Shine, the second handset in Black Label range from LG Electronics, is set off to conquer the markets of the UK and Europe. As LG Electronics reports, LG Shine's popularity is growing in avalanche-like fashion in Europe and its sales here in a month's time have exceeded accumulated sales in Korea, while with that said, LG Chocolate's sales in the respective period of 2006 have been beaten as well. The leading retailer in the UK, Phones4U, calls LG Shine its top selling phone for the two week period after launch, over and above, total daily sales of all British distributors still don't want to get off the 2000 units-a-day mark for two weeks. Europe, France and Germany aren't any different - compared to the phenomenally successful Chocolate, the Shine has put up even bigger numbers - since its release in Europe over 200 000 units have been sold (while Chocolate made it only to 160 000 units mark).

Today a handset is frequently treated as the social status indicator and a stylish accessory - after such grands of the runway as Dolce & Gabbana and Prada partnered up with phone manufacturers to present own cell phones, hearing that Gucci is up to break into the world of mobile technologies is not a shock.. Though there is little information available on this project - for the most part they all give links to a couple of images that supposedly show what the product will look like. And should we trust these sources, then much like LG Prada, the Gucci phone sports a touch-sensitive display and button-less fascia. Nevertheless these pictures look like a piece of Photoshop art. Anyhow, Gucci won't surprise anyone by launch an own-branded handset, that's for sure.

NEW YORK: Google Inc. could be in advanced stages of developing a mobile phone as indicated by various leaks to the media about the possibilities of such a project. Sources close to the company say a low-cost, internet-enabled communication device is getting readied by the search company. Adding credence to the speculation is a remark by a top official of the company based in Spain, who confirmed last week the company is exploring such a project. A Spanish news website, Noticias.com, quoted Google's chief for Spain and Portugal Isabel Aguilera as saying Google has investigated developing a mobile phone. She said such a project is in existence and some Google engineers are engaged in developing a mobile phone device. Google has not directly reacted to the reports, but a spokesperson of the company said Friday mobile is an important area for the company and it is focused on creating applications and establishing and growing partnerships with industry leaders to develop innovative services for users worldwide. She, however, ended saying she has nothing further to announce. Some analysts, however, pointed out that such speculations about Google's plans had been proved wrong in the past. Reports circulated at one time talked about Google coming out with a personal computer system of its own. It transpired later that there was no such plan for the search major. however, the word that is spreading at the CeBIT trade fair, which is now on, is that reports about Google phone could not be wrong because some of the company's representatives themselves have said in the open about developing a phone and that it could be a mass market product. Some sources indicated the device could be something like a Blackberry, with voice over internet protocol capability and with bare PC features. earlier in December 2006, there was a report in The Observer saying Google is interested in developing a branded Google phone. The report said the company had talks with Orange on a partnership to develop the phone, google has recently entered into a partnership with Samsung Electronics to have mobile versions of Google Apps on Samsung phones. Some observers believe this could be pre-runner to Google entrusting the task of designing its phone to the Korean phone maker.
