NewZealand was the first country to see this handset...

Srini....This model (6265) is in the current collection for a long time , almost 4-5 months now. Actually it has officially been launched by Nokia a long time ago.... The delay in availability is from the operators' side.

I visited one of the webworld today...everthing's changed...new colors, new banners, new intranet website background....and even the t-shirts...But somehow I feel the previous one was quite distinct, this one's not. Anyway, there seems some internal ga-ga over the launch of this handset, but noone is having any confirmed information. Wait is not over guys!!!

Dear...you should have searched this forum or googled about what WCDMA is? It has been discused several times on this forum before. FYI, N91 can not work on RIM or for that matter on any CDMA network. WCDMA or Wideband-CDMA is the 3G technology for GSM platforms and has nothing to do with CDMA. Only similarity between the two is that both are commercially developed by Qualcomm. Thats it.

EDGE is available with Hutch and Airtel. And soon to be launched by BSNL and MTNL. Not sure about IDEA and other operators. Airtel offers the EDGE connectivity in major cities only, but Hutch has EDGE connectivity in metro as well as in most of the Tier II cities. I did not come across any plan form Airtel or Hutch in which you can use unlimited EDGE data for 100 rupees. It is expensive to use and is usually billed for per 10 KB on a prorata basis. Conecting your phone with PC for internet is very expensive. Since I have used Hutch for the same, I can give you the details of that. For prepaid, they charge a monthly rental of Rs 199 and thereafter 5 paise per 10 KB usage. For postpaid, they have three plans - Plan 1 is the same as prepaid, plan 2 is 499 monthly rental with 500 MBs data free and and thereafter 5 paise per 10 KB and Plan 3 is 699 monthly rental with 1 GB free and thereafter 5 paise per 10 KB. Some might see the plan 699 a good option but then unlike RIM's freedom plan (where u don't pay any voice rental for default plan), you have to pay for voice rental as well. I have used this service before and did not find the speeds better than Rconnect. More or less the same. And yes, EDGE (and 3G - WCDMA) ready Nokia 6630 is available in market for about 11.2K.

This is one of the much acclaimed phone by Motorola. It was one of the most anticipated Moto product in westl lately, mostly because they claimed it to be superior to Blackberry and Treo (and no doubt, it is). Reason because it is more compact, RAZR sharp thinner and lighter than most of these handsets. Though it has a QWERT keypad, it still looks more like a phone unlike most of blackberry models which are quite bulky. It is one of the first devices to operate on the latest release, Windows Mobile 5.0. A very good phone indeed.

Comparing For Internet Usage - Reliance Vs Tata Indicom Cdma
basant_jp replied to patnaik's topic in Data services
The plan definitely sounds great, but it's a known fact that Tata Indicom internet speeds are not as good as Reliance. So if its the speed, tata indicom may disappoint you. On the other fronts, it should be more or less similar to Reliance. -
Lifetime Validity Offers: How Long Is Life Time?
basant_jp replied to @ksh@T's topic in Reliance Communications
Is it? If you are a high user, reliance postpaid is the cheapest and the best option. They have had the one rupee calling plan for almost an year before the one india plans came into being. Now, with the new ROI399 plan, I can call any Reliance phone across the country for just 40 paise..and rest all for 1 rupee..and all roaming calls for just 40 paise a minute...plus SMS as per standard tariff even while roaming..plus superior call quality and cheap rates while roaming internationally. You call it expensive? Moreover, I would never even go for a rent free or cheaper but crappy services of Airtel or Hutch (atleast in Delhi), and I don't have to as I have the option of Reliance postpaid with superior voice quality and huge network...I have been using it for more than an year now and quite satisfied... Amtrag rightly said...it all depends on your usage...If you are a low user, even RIM prepaid is not bad at all. -
New Look of Reliance Infocomm Website
basant_jp replied to basant_jp's topic in Reliance Communications
So the new website is designed (or revamped) by Influx Dzine, a chennai based company.... Not impressive though. -
Well, a simple chip (sim) is being used by Reliance and is given to International roaming subscribers, which can be used with any GSM handset to roam with GSM partners across the world. RIM calls are forwarded on this SIM which comes with a number from Reliance GSM. I don't believe it is feasible to make a SIM card which can make a GSM handset CDMA compatible, that too without any hardware support (read CDMA chipset). Either your reliable sources are confusing it with the International Roaming SIM or they are imagining of a future technology which could probably be seen in the next 10-15 years....may be later.... or may be never...

In reports that could trigger a supremacy race between leading telecom players, equity research firms J M Morgan Stanley and UBS Securities have suggested that Reliance Communication Ventures Ltd (RCoVL) has surpassed Bharti Airtel Ltd in terms of average usage but had lower revenue per subscriber. In separate reports analysing the financial results of RCoVL, which is set to enter the elite club of 30 Sensex scrips on the Bombay Stock Exchange next month, the two global firms said that RCoVL had a higher average minute of usage (MOU) in the March 2006 quarter, notwithstanding a lower share of overall wireless subsciber additions and a lower average revenue per user (ARPU). Comparing the two telecom players on various counts, the UBS Investment Research report said that RCoVL's wireless division had a lower ARPU than GSM players like Bharti and Hutch Essar in the latest quarter. However, RCoVL's higher minutes of usage (MOUs) indicated higher usage profile of its subscribers, the report added. RCoVL has posted gross ARPU of Rs 375 for the March 2006 quarter, which was more than 15 per cent lower than Bharti's figure in the same quarter and represented a sequential decline of 8.5 per cent. However, the two firms pegged the minutes of usage at 532 minutes per month for RCoVL as compared to 431 for Bharti -- which is the most valuable listed telecom player as of today with a market capitalisation of Rs 79,809.84 crore as compared to Rs 39,244.14 crore of RCoVL. It has WAP browser based R World. Just like Kyocera 7135 I guess. In that case, it should hopefully be a full fledged wap browser, which should be a welcome change for Nokia phone in RIM. Cheers!

@ Mohan.... May be GSM can offer much competitive and feature rich handset models, but then all GSM providers in India provide is, deeply congested network...look at Airtel and Hutch in Delhi and Mumbai....and forget about BSNL or MTNL. Afterall, the phone is primarily for voice and txting, for which RIM offers superior quality to others. Rest all the features are add-ons and are secondary. Tell me would you prefer an N series nokia handset with latest features and technology, but with poor voice and txt service from the operator (say BSNL, or even Airtel in Delhi)? I am not against high end handsets, but this is no reason why one should quit RIM. That too when we all know that launch of several high-end handsets is in pipeline. Cheers!

Honestly..If u use internet sensibly, Windows firewall and just any antivirus program is good enough. If its anti-virus alone, I would vouch for kaspersky as it has the highest (and consistent) infection detection rate. Norton comes no where close to kaspersky. Cheers!

@Arun.... Thanks yaar! This is what I was looking for. Cheers!

Any software for burning DVD video disks? I have to burn avi files in a DVD so that I can view them in standalone DVD players.

Well...this is no guess. I have the copy of the email which my brother received from the officials from Motorola US. Being an employee, my brother mailed them and enquired about the possible launch of this handset in India. The post above which states the June/July as the timeframe for its launch in India is nothing but their reply...When they reply to their collegue that they are talks with India CDMA operators, then they must be. Delay in launch of Nokia 6265 had made us all pessimist...keep your hope high guys...No operator can survive on only number of subscribers, in the end they all will have to think of smart ARPU..which is possible only if they come out with strong reasons to attract and retain higt users....and availability of high end handsets is the topmost reason for such people. Isn't it?

Considering the recent marketing strategies of Motorola, I expect this phone to be somewhere between 11-14K, not more than that. Anyway, this is cool phone and those who want a stylish, sexy and feature-rich clamshell, this will undoubtedly be the best choice.

MTNL Delhi has also launched a similar plan, but with much more tariff than BSNL. It is the TriB Unlimited Plan with 256 Kbps unlimited data transfer. But, compared to BSNL this is way costlier....monthly rental on 1399 + 80 for CPE + Service tax...It would come around 1650 a month. It is not very clear from the website, but it sems you might have to pay additional 249 as telephone rental, which seems to me mandatory + call rates of 1.5 per pulse (i am not sure for the voice rental as it is not clearly stated on the website). Also, there is no option of annual payment of broadband rental. It is not also clear from the website if the existing customers can shift to this plan, I am a bit skeptical as all their earlier TriB plans were meant for the new subscribers only. Total loss.....Airtel will always be a better choice for 1000 per month + plus no voice rental. Only drawback with Airtel is that yu get the 256k+ speeds only during night and during day hours it is 150-180 kpbs on an average. Still better than MTNL.

MP3 / WMA / AMR / AAC Ringtones

@kmanilpillai..here is the Airtel ringtone in mp3 format... Cheers! Airtel.mp3 -
Nokia, so far, has come out with only one prototype of series 60 CDMA phone, and that is a CDMA version of 6630...not the 6600. But, the production of 6630 in CDMA is still far from reality... For 6600 to be launched as CDMA, it might take ages as it will have to be develped exclusively for Reliance Infocomm...and by that time even the 6265 would become obsolete... Amyway, I would always prefer to have a 6630 CDMA over the 6600...
