  1. Air Deccan today announced a tie-up with Reliance Infocomm thad would allow passengers to book tickets through the cellular company's retail chain of 241 broadband Reliance Web World outlets across 104 cities. A commission of 5% of ticket sales through the centres would be given to Reliance Web World, Air Deccan MD Capt. G R Gopinath said. Passengers can now book tickets, pay for it, reschedule and also cancel it and collect refund from web world outlets anywhere in the country, he added. "The ticket delivery mechanism solves the common problem faced by passengers when travel agents close their offices by early evening, forcing many to travel to the airport to book their tickets late at night," Gopinath said.

  5. Reliance Infocomm has tied-up with State Bank on India (SBI) for online RIM bill payment through R World, the data application suite of Reliance IndiaMobile (RIM). As per the arrangement, a RIM user with an SBI account will be able to pay the bill amount directly from his account. While this encrypted service is highly secure and easy to use, it'll be free of charge. Reliance Infocomm has similar tie ups for direct debit with ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank. For credit card payments, it has arrangements with MasterCard, Visa, and Diners card. "Given the paucity of time, especially in bigger towns, and the hassle of conventional bill payment, online bill payment is the way forward. Our company is committed to making the lives of its customers easier. This tie-up with India's largest bank is a step in that direction," said Mahesh Prasad, President, Applications Solutions Group, Reliance Infocomm. How to do it: One will require a unique personal identification number (PIN) to be able to access RIM Bill Payment facility on R World. For this one will need to register on www.onlineSBI.com. Within 48 hours of doing so, one will receive the four-digit PIN via SMS. A customer can also check details of his previous transaction and current usage charges including the unbilled amount at the RIM Bill Payment application. R World is India's only truly interactive mobile data application suite. Available to a majority of over 10 million RIM subscribers, the Java and BREW-based suite offers over 150 every-day-use applications such as railway ticketing, m-transactions, exam results and commodity prices.

  9. International long distance (ILD) telephone tariffs are set to fall with Reliance Infocomm bagging the contract from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd for carrying ILD traffic, according to a newsreport. Reliance Infocomm has offered 83 paise per minute across five sectors, including the United States and Canada. In the bargain, Reliance edged out its arch rival, the Tata-managed Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd, which until now has been carrying BSNL's entire international long distance traffic across all the 11 international sectors. The move has revenue implications for VSNL which stands to lose revenues of about 20-30 per cent accruing from ILD business. The revenue loss is in spite of the fact that it has managed to regain six sectors. VSNL has offered to carry ILD calls to sectors such as West Asia at 93 paise per minute. The news report, which quoted sources in VSNL, said that the net impact on its revenues would only be to the extent of 20 per cent, while BSNL officials said that about 40 per cent of the ILD traffic will now be routed through other companies. VSNL may have to take a hit of up to Rs 80 crore (Rs 800 million) with the Tata-controlled company losing substantial ISD traffic originating from BSNL to Reliance Infocomm. After a fresh round of bidding, Reliance Infocomm has emerged as the first choice for carrying ISD calls of BSNL to the United States, the most lucrative destination, followed by Bharti and VSNL, sources associated with the development said. Both VSNL and BSNL differed over the traffic loss to Reliance Infocomm or Bharti. BSNL officials said 30-40% ISD traffic would now be carried by Reliance Infocomm and Bharti to different locations while VSNL officials said they would lose about 20% traffic. Reliance is the first choice of BSNL for carrying traffic to the US and Canada while VSNL has retained the number one position for carrying the traffic to Europe and the Middle East. BSNL gives nearly 50 million minutes of ISD calls per month. "The new rates will allow BSNL to rejig its ILD tariffs. An announcement to this effect is expected on May 17 on the occasion of the World Telecom Day. BSNL had invited bids for 11 ILD sectors from long distance operators," the report said. India's ILD market size is around Rs 4,300 crore (Rs 43 billion), of which BSNL's 42 million fixed line subscribers account for a significant share. PTI & Agencies

  11. Reliance Infocomm forays aggressively into sub- Rs100 segment Launches Joy 99 plan with low commitment of Rs149 a month Offers host of data applications, including Internet access Reliance Infocomm has introduced a post paid plan that will enable one to go mobile for Rs 149. The new plan called NJ 99, includes monthly rental of Rs 99 and caller line identification presentation (CLIP) and plan charges of Rs 25 each as applicable on all postpaid plans of RelianceIndiaMobile (RIM). This marks Reliance Infocomm's foray into the rapidly growing sub-Rs 100 market that accounts for almost 50% of the industry s average monthly post-paid net additions of 4, 00,000. "NJ 99 is among the country's cheapest and best plans to go mobile with an aggressive entry cost and low monthly commitment. It will help us garner a large share of the entry-level market," said Inder Bajaj, Head - Postpaid Business, Reliance Infocomm. The plan also features an intra-circle tariff of Rs 1.50 for calls to all Reliance phones and Rs 2.20 for calls to other networks. Since most Reliance handsets double up as modems, subscribers in this segment can also log on to (at the prevailing tariffs) the Internet via the R Connect facility. Additionally, they will get to access R World - RIM's data suite with over 150 applications including MMS, railway reservations and m-commerce. Users can choose from 26 Reliance handsets starting at Rs 2,499 for a black and white handset and Rs 4,999 for a color handset. Continue discussions here
