Great Hardware ! But its more important is to actually launch the new devices quickly rather than so many announcement and nothing much available in the markets. Also quicker OS upgrades for older models would help in building confidence - its been so long and no webos 2 update for Pre or Pre+ etc. Inspite of being one of the best OS, it no longer seems to be good enough to buy.

This is just a rehash of the instructions here (http://www.webos-int...tion:MetaDoctor). I have just made it simpler in line with my experience in doing it and i have given instructions only for Windows since most people are using that. 1. Install Cygwin: goto cygwin site and download setup.exe and run it (keep internet connected as it will download around 50 mb) 2. Click next next in setup.exe (note where it is being installed - usually c:\cygwin) till you reach the big page where you can select differents packages/apps for install with cygwin 3. On this page click on 'view' in top right corner so that view all/Full is selected/shown 4. We need to install the following packages Python Make Patch Git Zip Unzip wget One by one type the above package name in the search box and then identify the package you need (many packages will be shown for each search but we need only the main package) Even if you select a few extra ones it doesn't matter. Click on the first icon against the identified package so that it will get selected to be installed. 5. Once cygwin is installed, you can goto desktop or start menu and run it. 6. Copy the sprint standard ROM for pre or pixie into the folder C:\Cygwin\home\--username--\meta-doctor\downloads (create the folder "downloads") (--username-- will be your windows username or whatever cygwin has inside c:\cygwin\home) ROM file needs to be named: webosdoctorp100ewwsprint-1.4.5.jar (or whatever is the version number, but in above format) 7. Open the file 'Makefile' with WORDPAD OR WRITE (not notepad as it'll clobber the end of lines and show one single line!) Scroll down to the following section and uncomment the first three lines as below (remove #): You can also uncomment 4th line for preware install (it'll run when you connect data). For other lines use your own judgement or requirement. Type pre and sprint or pixie and sprint etc. in the last 2 lines shown below as per your device. Now Run cygwin from icon and You'll get a linux command prompt. Type cd meta-doctor make 9. Wait till above completes and then go into the folder c:\cygwin\home\--username--\meta-doctor\build\--version--\ and copy/move the ROM image to where ever you want and rename it so that you can understand which version/changes etc it has. 10. Switch off your pre, connect usb cable to PC/Laptop, Hold the Volume Up button and then switch it on. It'll show big USB icon. Now double click on the ROM and let it flash the pre as usual. 11. Remember to backup your folders from pre usb drive before above and also you can copy palmdatabase files as mentioned in other topic to backup your contacts/email/sms/logs/etc. YOu can also use prebackup for backup of nearly everything incl bookmarks etc.

Even I want to know if Glam and Milestone are the same thing ? Google search seems to confirm that Glam & Milestone are same. But can some guru confirm ? Would this be better than Samsung Fascinate ?

Sorry losergang_jot, I only have various Qinray ROMs. No xxrake. Now I remember i also tried to search for xxrake a lot when my pre went offline but couldn't find it. The links i found were not downloading. Tell me if you need qinray ( i have the following: PalmPre_Rom_qinray_1.0.4_v3_source2 and PalmPre_Rom_qinray_1.0.3.treo8) Most people/gurus i asked on the forum for xxrake said qinray is good to get it online but maybe hitesh/muffy etc may have xxrake somewhere. Also search treo8 once more

That happens for me also many times - clicking links brings you happily to the homepage. Plus logout from myservices and login with different login & password and you're logged in as the previous user ! You have to close browser after logout and then try. Or run ie/chrome for 2nd login.

Wow ! How do you guys manage to notice it so quickly. I have been opening rcom h/s page everyday to check if 9330/9650 have been launched and still didn't see this. BTW, its also showing Motorola Milestone cdma+gsm there.

That is what is getting me confused - isn't that completely like the cdma phones without RUIM. SIM was an advancement in that you don't need to provision handsets and can change them instantly and without involvement or permission from operator or anyone. Once you have handset acting like SIM it'll be like cdma handsets and changing handsets will mean you need to talk to your operator (and probably also Apple - which must be looking for some more lock in)

Not really Doc ! - my own Pre is offline since 2 months - after i tried to reprogram it. Tushar has finally managed to get it fixed from some 'real' expert in Delhi. Am waiting for him to get it registered with Reliance now. Am stuck with using BB till he sends it to me.

Very true. Instead of real policing we are stuck with BB sooping and securing WiFi type of stupid things. As if taking away BB will stop the terrorists dead in their tracks. Imagine them calling their bosses "sir, attack is canceled due to internet & BIS being down"

In the screenshots I can see something like WebOS Cards to manage running apps - that's a feature i have been sorely missing. On Palm Pre i could see what all is running and just flick off a card to exit the app. On my android tablet i am really confused about how many things might be running and there's no nice way to exit an app - you've to run task killer /switcher.

I have not submitted the "port in" request to any operator BUT i have also recieved "your Sr.no.UCSxxxxxxx has been processed.thank u for being with Reliance." ?? Anyone has any idea what this means ? I don't want to port right now, was just testing by sending Port sms to RCDMA.

Runs fine on my pc & laptop. Have you tried reducing your PC resolution to 1024x768 (or whatever aspect ratio you have;) I don't think it needs 256 color mode.

I would second Genius's suggestion of swimming pool membership or good bike. Or if that seem unexciting, maybe admission to the best karate/taikwondo/judo course in your town. Kids mostly miss out on the physical things these days, other digital and entertainment things they invariably pick up due to their parents lifestyles and likings. It is also essential to give them some of your time when ever they are doing physical things as that is a big motivation for them when parents are with them & encouraging them. My daughters can cycle for a few hours if i am with her, but will do it for 10 min if she's with friends or alone. But, if you still want something digital maybe a laptop with a copy of visual basic installed and some cool sample vb games programs which you can show and explain to him so that he can pick up some programming & logical thinking skills. Maybe even simple Basic like gwbasic etc to start off. Or if he's interested in electronics then some good circuits book along with components etc for a few exciting projects. Or maybe a RC Helicopter (or plane if your budget is higher and you have some space to let it take off and land) - takes quite a lot of skill to learn to keep chopper/plane stable and steer it where you want. Again you'll have to spend some time on it with him.
