^ By App Central I guess you mean "App Catalog" of Palm ? Even I was not able to get apps from there in the begining but it starts working and now i have downloaded 20-30 apps (the free ones only !) from there. How it started working is a difficult question since there were a few things that i did after suggestions on the forum and by muffaddal and it started working. I am mentioning them below, see if it helps you: 1. Sign in to your palm profile first before using the app catalog. Run the first use app for this. (if you don't have a palm profile then create one or ask seller if he created one and log into that) You can also check if you login email and password are correct by using this web page: 2. If you have wifi try that as the 1X data is sometimes slow so you need to try it a few times here and there before it works properly. I don't have wifi so many times apps download quits halfway. 3. Don't keep the palm feeds in preware ie you can keep optware precentral etc but uncheck the palm-* ones. Now, this shouldn't really matter as preware and app catalog are different applications, but for some reason in my case it did. Also sometimes i would click on a palm app from preware and it would open app catalog and give weird error messages. 4. Give it a few days and 10-20 tries. It'll start working i think. If nothing helps, then wait for reply from some of the gurus here. Also there are very few good apps there which are not available in this topic for download. Just a facebook app and some smaller games - all the big apps are already here and cracked too.

At the moment when a BB is doing data transfer (evdo,1X,bes,bis) do callers get a busy tone like in our other phones ? Or is BES/BIS able to do voice/data simultaneously - either on 1x or evdo ?

^^ I tried 2 different types of katoras with various combinations ie usb data card in horiz/vert positions touching not touching katora etc. but found that in certain locations on my computer (PC) table the speed was markedly high/low compared to other locations irrespective of katora ! So finally i settled on putting my modem in the CD Rack which is built on top of the PC table on one side. Speed here, as compared to speed in the modem's usual location of front USB port of the PC, is double ie 1.5 mbps vs 0.75 mbps upload speed Offcourse, there are so many variables in signal reception that everyone's mileage may vary depending on location/distance of tower, position inside your home/office walls etc. various wires and usb extension cable etc etc So the only advise is to try it out 10-20 different things for half an hour and measure speed for every permutation and settle for the best that you get.

^ yes, and the best part is that having access to RIM servers will do no good as it uses PKI so you need customer's private key to eavesdrop which RIM doesn't have - its only stored on your BB. Its not for voice calls though as the encryption is dropped by the handset if tower says it doesn't support encyrption, its only for emails. Besides GSM voice encryption is easy to crack for those with resources, though CDMA is still extremely difficult. Anyway terrorists can even use public email like gmail etc and use their own encryption software like GnuPG or personal codes and their trick of saving messages in draft folder to avoid it being intercepted (as it doesn't get transmitted at all - the other person logs in to senders email a/c and reads the draft messages!) So this is not really about security at all. Its about something else.

For CAR Stereo ensure that it has USB port so that you can put in a pendrive with all your songs and forget about it. Otherwise its very cumbersome trying to juggle & change CDs.

Not illegal in India. However, it is a grey area in the US as one is under contract for 1-2 years with operator if handset was subsidized. Warranty is not valid if you jaibreak or root and use custom roms though cos like HTC are quite liberal about it and you could anyway switch to original rom before going in for any warranty repairs.

^ No, its not required to remove preware etc before webos update. Only some experimental/beta kernels or any patches which specifically mention that they should be removed. Otherwise just download the new ROM image and doctor. But don't download sprint rom images, get them from treo8 (links in this forum under palm>pre updated to 1.4.1.1 topic) so that there is palm profile bypass - otherwise you may be stuck at the palm profile login screen. (This is assuming you sprint/verizon pre has been programmed for working in India on Reliance or Tata)

Yes, webserver & database server can be run (preferably something small like SQLite). Both of these run even on Palm PRE (light httpd & Mysql - see here) i've got them installed on mine. However, you can't have too many hits on the server - its more for 1-5 people accessing it. USB harddisk or flash drives also work (mentioned on the plug website. Check for USB HOST if buying some other ARM SBC like gumstix etc.)

OK, *228 and entering gsk pin isn't working. Says your phone could not be activated. Can i put the ruim in a friend's nokia 6275 and do *228+gskpin ? OR will this create problems for him (ie his number/ruim will stop working in his phone after that or such problem) Also my m i n has 6 zeroes and then 4 digits and i am entering this number in both msid as well as mobile no field in treo ##000000# screen (as mentioned in the document for programming treo) E*N has been correctly edited on treo and shows ok in above screen. Any ideas what i should do now ?

It seems Reliance GSKs come with a PIN number which is to be entered after dialling *228. Is it safe to do this after programming a Treo 755p ?
