I am looking for a handset for my mom. the basic requirements are: 1. the handset should have maximum battery life, atleast 4 days standby time. 2. the price <2.5k , or max 3k 3. Preferably motorola, as they have a service center in thane. i m thinking about motofone. SMS is not at all required, so i guess the display can be accepted. but how about it's battery life n call quality. as it has two antennae and e paper display, both should be great, but what's the actual experience? i m looking for a lifetime connection. i'd have gone for reliance, but they have stopped the lifetime incoming plan. and i m not impressed by those daily recharge required phones. MTNL has an offer for govt employees, that give the lifetime incoming card for 440, that otherwise costs 900. so i m planning to go for that. is the network any good for mtnl? it was bad previously, but i guess they have improved by now. any suggestions on handset/gsm operator in mumbai?

just insert the Tata/Reliance Ruim card in that mobile, n it should start working right away. no need to do anything, if u r not keen on using any specific programs like r-world.

yes, u can. for using R-World, u can use the PRL file posted on this forum. u can also change the startup image, so that no one can tell it is a tata phone working on reliance.

that's because the antenna seems to be on the back piece of the slider. so when the slider is opened, antenna is hidden from view.

well guys, a good news. actually i was looking for a gsm mobile coz my mom's lifetime incoming mobile N2112 was lost last thursday, and since it is still not in my name, i couldn't block it. that's why i decided to shift to gsm. luckily, that mobile was found today morning, in a bag at home. must be put there by someone in hurry, and maybe as it went out of network, all i could hear is ringtone. u can read this in the post 'Is the handset lost'? so as the mobile is back to us, the hunt for new mobile is stopped now. thanks for all ur help. this discussion may prove useful to someone who needs to buy a low end high battery life GSM handset. thanks again friends.

As per reviews here, also supported by my friends, the display of f3 is below par. so i guess i'll put it out of question. w205 seems good. but i m more inclined towards moto c168 with 1000mAh battery. as battery life is most important for me. amongst nokias, i m eyeing 1110, 1101 & 1600, just because of their tremendous battery life. so current shortlisted phones are moto: w205, c168 nokia: 1110, 1101, 1600 any suggestions on these?

ya, what the hell reliance is coming to??? even i saw, LGs are disappearing real quick. few nokias r there, but low end nokia are really ****ers (like 1255, 2255, and NOT 2112). seems there is almost no option in low end reliance phone, except that Classic crap.

actually i m really bored of LG n their miserable battery life, and the service center is quite far. motofone, i liked the design most, specially the display quality n ruggedness. that's y i m more inclined towards it. are there any trump/dolphin users here? how's the network in mumbai?

good for yahoo. but if this step was taken just when gmail was about to enter, there'd be still many ppl hanging on with yahoo. i have dropped yahoo a long time ago. specially considering that it was not long ago that yahoo was offering only 6mb, n pathetic hotmail offering a whooping 2mb(!) storage, the unlimited storage thing feels great.

Day befor yesterday, i was at a wedding with my mom. yesterday we found that her cell nokia 2112 (09324445115) missing. i tried calling it, but all i could hear is engage tone only. what could have happened? is it stolen, or just misplaced n dried its battery? if it is lost, is there anyone here who can help me find it? can i get the lost number back? coz i was having lifetime incoming on that number, which is stopped now? and lastly, if at all it is lost forever, which will be the best handset to give to mom? she has just one requirement, a LONG battery life, as daily recharge is hessle. I think I'll go for 2112 again. If anyone can tell where can i get LG 3470 in mumbai/pune, then i'll get it. lastly, the moto phone launched that motophone, the slim, eletronic display one, in tata. can it work on reliance? n if yes, how is its battery life?

not possible, that's true. there is a lockin period of i think 6 months. i have read that if u recharge using life time voucher, then it'd be unlocked, but even that voucher is stopped now. if that classic 632 is RUIM ie card based, then try whether the card works on other cells. that way, u can use that number on other handset, and buy a ruim card and transfer existing LG number on that n use that in classic. LG doesn't support RUIM, so u might need to sell it off.

jaane do.... it gives no probs when stations r given manually na, so what's the worry? live with it, or spend one whole day at LG service station.

^^^ usually autoscan misses few stations here n there. even on my n2865, i have to manually enter the missing stations. no big deal.

^^^ i know. i m just saying that it is no more accessible from mtnl/bsnl. @racoon: demonoid has blocked mtnl & bsnl, bacause some folk here tried to hack into their servers. u'll have to use some proxy for accessing them now on, if u r on mtnl/bsnl connection.

seems demonoid is not closed down, but they have blocked mtnl n bsnl due to some reason. u can access it on other ISPs.
