The not-yet-announced Sony Ericsson Rika just made its first appearance in luscious red over at justAMP. The Rika appears to be a pimped-out Walkman version of the G705 slider with a front-facing camera and possibly 3g under the hood. More information should be forthcoming soon as a sweet-looking phone like this can’t be kept under wraps for too much longer. One more shot after the jump Just Wait For More Info [vIa:jUsTamP]

Updated : Iphone 3g Out In India !

Adobe confirms Flash for iPhone, says Apple will decide when!!! Jens Chr Brynildsen, a Flash expert who maintains a number resources for the standard including Flash Magazine, has reportedly confirmed with Adobe Systems’ Sr. Director of Engineering, Paul Betlem, that Flash is coming to the iPhone. However, Betlem says that “Apple calls the shots as to when it’ll be available.” Brynildsen got the confirmation at an Adobe Town Hall meeting session. He reports: “Upon a direct question from the audience, Paul Betlem for the first time publicly confirmed that Adobe is actively developing a Flash Player for Apple’s popular phone. He said (not direct quote) ‘My team is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it’s a closed platform.’ He noted that Apple makes all the decisions, so in other words, the ball is in Apple’s yard at this time. If Apple says yes, Adobe will have the player available in a very short time.” In mid-June, Adobe’s CEO said that company already has Flash running on an iPhone emulator (presumably the same emulator included with Apple’s iPhone SDK). As we’ve pointed out several times, Flash performance and usage is abysmal on current mobile devices that support playback. Mobile device processors — including the iPhone’s — simply aren’t fast enough to handle most Flash-laden sites. Flash Lite, the scaled down standard designed specifically for mobile devices, is even too much for most devices, and isn’t widely used. [vIa:iPhOnEaTlaS] -
Samsung 8800 Aka Pixon 8mp Smartphone Announced
@ksh@T replied to Mufaddal's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Everyone and their grandmother rocks a camera phone these days. We’ve finally reached a point where even the cheapest of cheap entry-level handsets is at least packing a 1.3 megapixel shooter, allowing user to capture those dark, fuzzy, pixelated memories while on the go. Samsung’s freshly-announced handset however, the Pixon M8800, should most certainly not be lumped into the same category as these shoddy camera phones. In fact, it’s more of a “phone camera” than a camera phone. Sure it can make calls, send and receive messages, browse the web and handle a few games, but none of those features will even be a consideration for would-be owners. No, it’s the 8 megapixel camera and the wide array of top-notch photo and video features that take center stage here. In fact we’re going to list them separately in the specs since the rest is really just gravy: Complete Specs: General 2G Network---------------------GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 3G Network-------------------------------HSDPA 2100 Announced--------------------------------2008, September Status-------------------------------------Coming soon. Relatively small national carrier US Cellular will have its own full touchscreen device by the end of the year. The Samsung Delve would be cosmetically very similar to the Instinct at Sprint but would have physical call/answer buttons instead of touch-sensitive controls on the earlier phone; it would also carry Samsung's stock TouchWiz interface with widget support in place of Sprint's custom-designed software. A full HTML web browser is still part of the design. In return for the less specialized software, the two-megapixel cameraphone will have several preloaded apps, including built-in clients for Facebook and MySpace as well as US Cellular's Toneroom store for buying ringtones and YourNavigator for assisted GPS. The Delve should be available sometime in mid-November, but hasn't been given a price by the alleged insider. Sprint currently sells the equivalent Instinct for $129 with a two-year plan.We weren’t given pricing information, but look for the Samsung Delve to hit store shelves around mid-November! Full set of specs are listed after the break… 3.0″ touch screen On-screen QWERTY keyboard Second generation TouchWiz interface Customizable widgets 2 megapixel camera Pre-loaded Toneroom, Facebook, Myspace, and various games Threaded email and SMS HTML browser Navigation software Bluetooth including A2DP [vIa:Electronista] Reason for edit: Src

Source: Indianexpress.com Chandigarh, September 26 Radio buffs in Chandigarh and nearby areas will not be able to enjoy the FM stations for three days, during afternoon and night hours, from Saturday. Due to certain technical maintenance work, the All India Radio will shut the transmission from 2 to 5 pm and midnight to 6 am. The stations to be affected include 92.7; 94.3, 103.10 and 107.20. It is perhaps the first time that radio programmes will be off air for such long durations. Talking to Newsline, programme head, All India Radio, Poonam Singh said: “It may not be a complete blackout, but the service will definitely be disrupted. We are trying to improve our transmission quality.” Station Engineer Vikas Bhatt said: “All four stations, including the private players, are likely to be disrupted as we will be tuning our transmission signals. Certain complaints had been received at the station regarding poor quality transmission, mainly in the Mohali region, because of which we wanted to check and improve the transmission quality. It is not certain if it is going to be a complete blackout, but disruption for a few hours is likely.” “All stations use a common antenna, because of which disruption will be likely in all transmissions,” Bhatt added.

The next, officially announced, big update for Windows Mobile will be - as Microsoft calls it - "6 on 6", which is Internet Explorer Mobile 6 on Windows Mobile 6.1. The current Internet Explorer Mobile code, as it is used for today's Windows Mobile devices and smartphones, is based on the pretty much outdated Internet Explorer 4.x, which was initially released back in September, 1997! The time of Windows 95 and Windows NT 4, when the World Wide Web was pretty young. So no question, it is time for an update! And while some called 6 on 6 vaporware already, even if Microsoft's Andy Lees confirmed its upcoming release in our earlier interview, you can see bellow that it exists indeed as the the screenshots we recently received proves. Internet Explorer Mobile 6 provides two different compatibility options - Mobile and Desktop: And while the Mobile mode identifies it as "[Device Name] (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; IEMobile 8.12; MSIEMobile 6.0)", the Desktop mode identifies it as "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1)": So far the theory. In reality you can see the difference if you visit the::unwired which works with browser sniffing to serve the appropriate layout. On the left, the::unwired in Mobile mode, on the right in Desktop mode and as you can see, the Desktop mode looks quite similar to the::unwired on your PC: So far so good. But some things irritates me: Why does the scrollbars on the right and bottom look like Windows 95 or Windows CE? That's not the "fresh" Windows Mobile 6.1 style. Also I haven't seen a single indication of "tabbed browsing" which means Internet Explorer Mobile 6 might still offers a single instance for Web browsing only. Anyway, as soon as I have access to a Windows 6 on 6 upgraded device. [vIa:the::unwired]

Sony Ericsson boss says studying Android system Wed Sep 24, 2008 11:24am EDT Email | Print | Share | Reprints | Single Page | Recommend (0) [-] Text [+] LUND, Sweden (Reuters) - Sony Ericsson is studying Google's Android mobile operating system, but was not able to embrace it yet, President ****[D I C K] Komiyama said on Wednesday. "We are certainly studying this opportunity, although we're not in a position to do this at this moment," Komiyama told journalists at a media event in the southern Swedish city of Lund, where the company has a research and development site. "We should look at this application," he said. "We are certainly interested." Android is an open source platform for designing mobile devices which Google (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) says will encourage innovation by allowing outside software developers to tinker with the system and create better mobile programs and services. However, Komiyama said Sony Ericsson was already part of the Symbian Foundation, a group which since June has attracted some 40 companies and gives developers free access to its software. Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile unveiled on Tuesday the first cellphone that uses Android software. The phone is being touted as Google's answer to the iPhone. The G1 phone, made by HTC Corp, has a touch-sensitive screen, a computer-like keyboard and Wi-Fi connections. Spy Pics Of Sony Ericsson's New 5mp Cameraphone (kate)
@ksh@T replied to Mufaddal's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
The new phone appears to be similar to the current C902 Cybershot with updated software (Java Platform 8.4, also on their much anticipated, much delayed 8MP C905). The mid-range phone is expected to have the following specs: 5 megapixel Camera with Xenon Flash, Auto Focus, and Smile Shutter No front camera for video calling Switch button between Still & Video as well as a button to access gallery of images you just taken No GPS EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA (at least) Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8.4 A bit thicker than C902 Light Sensor Switch button between Still & Video as well as a button to access gallery of images you just taken ‘Smile Shutter’ but lack of ‘Smart Contrast’ (I don’t know if this subject to change) We may see this phone announced sometime in October and released by the end of the year (we wont hold our breath) for about €300 ($450). Enjoy! -

We just got our perfectly manicured hands on a photo of what we’re told is the LG Xenon. It was described to us as being in AT&T’s labs right now undergoing testing, and it should be available before Christmas. As you can see, it’s a slider device with a full QWERTY keyboard. It’s also got UMTS/HSDPA, a 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, an accelerometer, and even a proximity sensor. Here’s the run down on all the specs: Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE Dual-band UMTS/HSDPA (850MHz/2100MHz) 950 mAh battery It’s physical size is 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm 240×480 2.8″ LCD 3 megapixel FF +VGA (VT) 100MB of memory with microSD support up to 16GB Bluetooth 2.0 USB 2.0 Wi-Fi EMP U330 Lite Chipset All in all, not bad LG. Not bad. [vIa:BGR]

Updated : Wireless Subscribers In India
@ksh@T replied to Honest's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Mobile growth story on; 9.16 mn added in Aug 24 Sep, 2008, 1629 hrs IST, PTI NEW DELHI: India's telecom growth pattern continues with mobile operators adding 9.16 million subscribers in August to the world's second largest wireless market. The total wireless subscriber base, which includes GSM, CDMA and WLL(F), stood at 305.24 million at the end of August 2008. A total of 9.16 million wireless subscribers have been added during August 2008, against 9.22 million wireless subscribers added during July 2008, TRAI said on Wednesday. Since wireline segment witnessed a decline, the total number of telephone connection added was 9.03 million (both fixed line and wireless) during August 2008, compared with 9.06 million connections added in July 2008. The total number of telephone connections reaches 343.87 million at the end of August 2008, compared with 334.84 million in July 2008. With this growth, the overall tele-density has reached 29.83 per cent at the end of August 2008, against 29.08 per cent in July 2008. Innovative and cheap tariffs in paise, lower handset costs and suave marketing skills by mobile companies like Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea have lured millions of Indians to own a mobile phone. With this the tele-density (number of people having a telephone connection per 100 ) reached 29.83 per cent mark. In the wireline segment, the subscriber base has slightly decreased to 38.63 million in August 2008, against 38.76 million subscribers in July 2008. Total Broadband subscribers base has reached 4.73 million by the end of August 2008 as compared to 4.57 million by the end of July 2008. -

Updated: Htc Dream! Google Selling Unlocked G1 Phones In India !
@ksh@T replied to Honest's topic in HTC
the website for t-mobile g1 is up now. T-Mobile G1 Google’s G1: First Impressions Google’s new G1 phone announced today is the first real competitor to the iPhone. Like Apple’s product, it’s a serious handheld computer with a powerful new operating system (called Android) and a clever touch-based user interface. Like the iPhone, it’s likely to be a major new platform for third-party software. But it’s also very different, and may appeal to different buyers. The phone, expected to be the first of many to use the Android operating system, was largely designed by Google, and was built by HTC of Taiwan. It will be sold in the U.S. starting next month by T-Mobile, for $179 with a two-year contract. Here are some first impressions of the G1, based on some experience with a prototype. This isn’t a full review; that will come later, when I’ve had a chance to use a more finished device. Most importantly, the G1 complements its touch screen with a physical keyboard, the lack of which has made the iPhone a non-starter for some users. The G1’s keyboard is revealed when you slide open its screen. The keys are a bit flat, and you have to reach your right thumb around a bulging portion of the phone’s body to type, but it’s a real keyboard. And there’s also a BlackBerry-like trackball that supplements the touch screen navigation. I found typing on this keyboard to be OK, but not great. A second big feature, or limitation, of the G1 — depending on your point of view — is that it is tightly tied to Google’s web-based email, contacts and calendar programs. In fact, you must have a Google (GOOG) account to use the phone, and can only synchronize the phone’s calendar and address book with Google online services. Unlike the iPhone, it doesn’t work with Microsoft Exchange, and it can’t physically be synced with a PC-based calendar or contacts program, like Microsoft Outlook. So, if your world already revolves around Google services, you may find that the G1 fits like a glove. If not, you may be disappointed. Also, like the iPhone, the G1 has a download service for third-party programs, called Market. I downloaded a couple of simple Market programs and they worked fine. The G1 won’t win any beauty contests with its Apple (AAPL) rival. It’s stubby and chunky, nearly 30% thicker and almost 20% heavier than the iPhone. It’s a bit narrower — more like a standard phone than a “smart phone” — and longer, but has a somewhat smaller screen. Still, it feels pretty good in the hand when closed, although I found it more awkward when opened. But the software is slick. Programs appear in a virtual drawer you slide open via a tab at the bottom of the screen, and notifications of new messages and the like can be read by sliding the top bar of the screen down. The screen and software were quick and responsive. The web browser is based on the same open-source technology as the iPhone’s, but works differently. You can view a portion of a page, and use a zoom control and finger-dragging to see the rest, or you can view the whole page in miniature, as on the iPhone. In the latter mode, however, you can’t simply use Apple’s technique of tapping or “pinching” to zoom in on a portion of a page. You must move around a virtual lens to pick out a part of the page on which to focus. There are two email programs: one for Google’s Gmail, another for all other email services. There’s an instant messaging program, that works with multiple services — not just Google’s. And, as on the iPhone, there are programs for using Google Maps and Google’s YouTube video service. The G1’s Google Maps program has a feature lacking in the iPhone version: photographic street views of some locations. The G1 has a couple of other things the iPhone omits: copy and paste functionality and a so-called MMS program, which sends photos to other phones without using email. Its camera is higher-resolution than the iPhone’s, but, like Apple’s, doesn’t record video. It also gives you far more flexibility in organizing your desktop, or home screen, than the iPhone, or almost any phone I’ve seen. In addition to placing icons for programs there, you can everything from individual contacts, music playlists, folders, web pages, and more. The G1’s multimedia capabilities are less polished and complete than the iPhone’s. There’s a very basic music player, and a built-in version of Amazon’s MP3 download service that works fine. But the G1 lacks a built-in video player — you have to download one from the third-party software store. Also, you cannot use standard stereo headphones with the G1. You need special ones, or an adapter. And it lacks the iPhone’s ability to change the orientation of a web page or photo by just turning the phone. You also can’t move through groups of photos by just “flicking,” as on the iPhone. The G1 also has much less memory than the iPhone. The base $199 iPhone comes with 8 gigabytes sealed in, but the G1 comes with just a 1 gigabyte memory card. Its maximum memory, if you buy a bigger card, is 8 gigabytes, while the iPhone can be purchased (for $299) with twice that. T-Mobile is claiming similar talk time to that of the iPhone, but, unlike Apple’s product, the G1 has a removable battery. Finally, a word about networks. In the U.S., the G1 will initially only be available on T-Mobile, whose high-speed 3G network will be up and running in many fewer cities than those of its larger rivals, AT&T (T) and Verizon (VZ). Like the iPhone, the G1 does have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. In sum, the G1 is a powerful, versatile device which will offer users a real alternative in the new handheld computing category the iPhone has occupied alone. [vIa:mossblog] -
