Dear Mr. Saket, I didn't noticed your post. Sorry about that! The data I posted regarding tariff is presented 'as-it-is' from my conversation with Customer Care representative, Tamil Nadu circle. I did not ask him the questions you asked me. But from the tariff details, it is apparent that calls between Tata DoCoMo and Tata Indicom / Virgin Mobile are considered off-net currently (at least in the base-line pack). May be they'll introduce some add-on packs at a later time. Neither do I have any information regarding recharge voucher denominations and Talk time value. Regarding the National SMS charges being Rs 1.20, it is too early to speculate future NLD/STD call charges based on that. I'll certainly provide the complete and authentic information that is open to public once the services are launched in my circle, Andhra Pradesh.

Dear Mr. Salman, That's a good question. Well.... you have two options to experience the upcoming Tata DoCoMo (GSM) services. The first is to buy a new SIM card as soon as they are available in Hyderabad, but you'll get a new mobile number. The second option is to wait until the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is launched and then switch to Tata DoCoMo, this way you can retain your existing number and still switch the carrier to Tata DoCoMo. As per your question, the second option is more appropriate for you. MNP is due for launch in Andhra Pradesh probably by October if everything goes as planned. Tata Network coverage is poor ...comparing to reliance CDMA coverage It was until the year 2007, that the Tata CDMA network was inadequate in some areas. But from 2008 they have IMPROVED IT A LOT, both in terms of geographic area covered and signal strength/quality. By-the-way, Tata Indicom has nothing to do with Tata DoCoMo, they are two different brands running on two independent network hardware equipments. The only thing both share is the optic-fiber backbone and the BTS (Base Transceiver Station) for housing network hardware and mounting antennas.

Tata Tele may start GSM services in Tamil Nadu this week 21 Jun 2009, 1808 hrs IST, PTI NEW DELHI: Tata Teleservices is likely to launch its GSM services nationally under the Tata DoCoMo brand this week, that may start with Tamil Nadu circle. Sources said the company has lined up GSM launch in Orissa, Kerala, Karnataka in the next 10 days. When contacted a Tata DoCoMo spokesperson declined to comment. On June 10, the country's second largest CDMA telecom operator while announcing the GSM services had said that the commercial launch would begin with the telecom circles in South India. Tata Teleservices has the requisite spectrum to start GSM services in 18 circles out of the 19 for which it has licence under the cross over technology. The company had earlier said it would be investing $ 2 billion in the operations, the pan-India roll out of which would be completed by this year end. The company is yet to receive GSM spectrum for the lucrative Delhi circle. Tata Tele does not have GSM license for three circles north east, Assam and J&K. Yes....poor staff, indeed!!! They really look like they don;t know any thing about GSM business. On the other hand even if they knew the information, but didn't want to disclose the information they should tell us same honestly. At least we will be glad that they are maintaining integrity by not disclosing.

I had a very similar exprience here!!! When I asked about Tata DoCoMo commercial launch date.....they gave a "what's that" look. So I even went a step ahead and told them that it's the GSM brand and also showed the logo image that I stored on my phone.....still then they gave a funny look and said we don't know. It made me feel awkward and embarrassed. I guess TTSL is not communicating anything related to GSM business with Tata Indicom marketing people, may be they are planning to set up a separate sales network and outlets for the Tata DoCoMo brand.
