  2. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

BREAKING NEWS.....!!! Tata Tele announces launch of GSM services New Delhi, June 10 India&aposs second largest CDMA telecom operator Tata Teleservices today announced the launch of services in the GSM platform in partnership with Japanese telecom services provider NTT DoCoMo. The service, which would be branded'Tata-DoCoMo', would be commercially rolled out towards the end of this month in the southern region, followed by the western and northern regions. The company would be investing USD two billion in the operations, pan- India roll-out of which would be completed by this year-end, Tata Teleservices Managing Director Anil Sardana told reporters here. Tata Teleservices has become the second telecom service provider after Reliance Communication to be providing services on both CDMA and GSM platforms under the dual-technology policy of the government. Dear Mr. Saket, 1.) As we all know currently the Tata Tele GSM network is under test trials/beta stage and is due for commercial launch soon. The company has not yet issued any voice call tariff structure. Besides the company has activated the 'point-of-interconnectivity' (POI) with only few telecom operators, for example I was still unable to connect to Andhra Pradesh Tata Tele GSM from Idea Cellular (AP Circle). So there is no cause for concern at this point in time even if calls between Tata GSM and CDMA are considered off-net. It is too early to speculate anything regarding that. One more interesting thing to note is that few weeks back Tata Tele spokesperson has stated to media that the Tata Tele GSM services will be targeted at 'Niche Subscribers' and is more keen on revenue generation than in subscribers numbers. This implies that Tata Tele GSM service charges might not be the least (as in case of Tata Indicom), but surely be superior in terms of quality and range of services. Having said that I would like to say that nothing will be and cannot be static/constant in telecom market as there are around 6 to 8 service provider in each circle jostling for market leadership. Market forces are dynamic and play a major role in business desicions. 2.) Dear Mr. Madhav, The reply " Please check the number u have dialed" implies that they have deactivated the IVR system on that number. Until yesterday, Andhra Pradesh number was working, but today they deactivated it. But Gujarat Tata GSM number series is '9033', you'll see it after the launch.
  5. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Madhav, The mobile number series for Gujarat Tata Tele Gsm is '9033'.
  6. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Ajin, From the past few days till yesterday morning the IVR on 9030012345 (AP) said "Welcome to Tata GSM". From yesterday afternoon, it has been changed to "Hi, You are with Tata DoCoMo". Mr. Shashank (Advanced Member) also tried at that time and reported us back regarding the same. I don't know what has happened, but the Andhra Pradesh Tata GSM number (9030-012345) stopped working altogether this morning, no IVR just few beeps & the call ends.... Yes, I have tried Kerala number & it is saying "please check the number you have dialled" in English, Malayalam & Hindi. Whatever it is, but I can guarantee you that "9037" is the mobile number series for Kerala circle.

Dear Members, The brand name for the Tata Teleservices GSM services is not yet announced officially by the company. Some of us could have heard some unofficial and unsolicited versions of Tata GSM Brand Name, but let us not discuss about the brand name now. I'm saying this because it strongly seems to me that the Tatas' want to keep the brand name confidential till the official announcement. Tata Group is such a Respectable Company, let us respect its decision. Let us dig more about the launch information. Thank You Everybody!!!
  8. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Amit, Thank you for the update! Hope they'll launch the network very soon.
  9. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Shashank Yes, the IVR is saying "Hi, You are with Tata DoCoMo" now. Early this morning when I called the message was "Welcome to Tata GSM". They've changed it now. Thank you for the update!
  10. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

By the way, I forgot to mention something...... I said in the above post that the Andhra Pradesh IVR is saying "Welcome to Tata GSM"......but, let me assure you that the real brand name for Tata Teleservices GSM services WILL NOT BE 'Tata GSM'.........I think the Tech guys at Andhra Pradesh are just testing the applications and just put this dummy IVR voice. The real brand name is strictly confidential till the Company announces it officially in the media.
  11. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Mr. Shashank, Yes, I got the same message "The Tata indicom number u have called is invalid......." when I tried to call Karnataka Tata Tele GSM from Andhra Pradesh. May be they have not yet activated the IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system on that number. The other states numbers are also not working from Andhra Pradesh. But the Andhra Pradesh number is working for SURE! You could try the AP one if you want, but if it's not working with one service provider, then try with other. For me dialing with Tata Indicom CDMA and AirTel are working in Andhra Pradesh. When you dial AP Tata GSM number you'll hear the IVR immediately.......it says "Welcome to Tata GSM".....and then the regular things like press 1 for this and that, press 9 for talking to a Customer care executive...... after pressing 9 in the IVR... the phone rings at the other end, but usually no one picks up the phone. I dialled like 30 times till now for the last 4 days, but got luck only twice......(I've already posted the conversation).
  12. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

I just now called up the Tata Tele GSM (Andhra Pradesh) customer care number..... 9030-012345.....one tech guy picked-up the phone......the conversation went like this: Me: Introduced my self & asked "when can I expect GSM launch?" Tech Guy: Sorry we can't disclose the date. Me: Okay, no problem...... please tell me at least the month of launch. Tech Guy: This month (June) Me: Are you sure? Tech Guy: Yes, but where did you get the number? How did you call us? Me: I'm calling from Tata Indicom CDMA phone........I know that 9030 is Tata GSM Andhra Pradesh number, so I just added 012345 to that! Tech Guy: Oh...Okay! (and he hung-up the phone). Guys, if you want to try from your state, I'm giving the South zone numbers: Kerala: 9037-012345 Karnataka: 9036-012345 Tamil Nadu: 9043-012345 Orrisa: 9040-012345 Note: You can call the above numbers only if the 'Point Of Inter-connection' (POI) is activated between the network you are calling from and the Tata GSM network. For example In my state (AP) I was able to dial Tata GSM from Air Tel and Tata Indicom (CDMA), BUT could not dial from Idea Cellular. I think you got what I mean.........! Good Luck, Guys..... and tell me as soon as possible if you got some News.
  13. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Damn... Anil Sardana.......... Let's kidnap him while he is on his way to TTSL Office at Mumbai. So that we wouldn't hear the dialogue "We will launch the GSM services in a few week" anymore!!!! Address: Tata Teleservices Limited Corporate Office, A, E & F Blocks Voltas Premises, T. B. Kadam Marg Chinchpokli, Mumbai - 400033.
  14. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Ajin, Thank you so much for the news, it's like music to my ears. I've been waiting for a very long time for the launch. I'm jumping here in happiness. Thank you once again.
  15. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Saket,......That is exactly what I wanted to say. What I tried to explain in quarter of a page.......you explained in just three lines..... :-) Thank You for the short version!!!
  16. Tata Tele To Launch Gsm Services Soon

Dear Mr. Ravi, that was a good question. Spectrum scarcity is true (I'll discuss that later), but was only the part of the reason why Tata Teleservices is switching to GSM. The other reasons are: (1). lower ARPUs (Average Revenue per User) of CDMA compared to GSM. (2). lack of availability of wide range of handset models in CDMA segment. (3). CDMA is a proprietary technology of Qualcomm which demands rolalty fees for every CDMA phone manufactured anywhere in the world, while GSM is an open technology. (4). The Telecom Ministry is biased in terms of spectrum allocation and is more favorable to GSM service providers. Now coming to the point of Tata Teleservices statement of spectrum scarcity: The statement doesn't imply that Tata Teleservices currently have so much spectrum scarcity that it hurts its present day operations...... It just means that the spectrum allocation process is biased and is more in favour of GSM players and if this continues to be like this,... sometime in future when subscriber rates grow exponentially it will certainly hurt CDMA operations It is a known fact that each telecom operator is given a startup spectrum when the company is licensed to start operations. While a GSM service provider is being awarded with a startup spectrum of 4 to 5 MHz, CDMA is being given only 2.5 MHz of startup spectrum......this is very much biased, but Ministry of Telecom says CDMA is more spectrum effecient than GSM so we are allocating low spectrum to CDMA players. In several other countries like USA and Canada....there is no bias in spectrum allocation.....both GSM and CDMA players are given equal share, irrespective of the fact that CDMA is more spectrum efficient. This is what both Tata Teleservices and Reliance Communications is fighting for. And about your last question: Yes, you are right..... If the current subscriber growth rate continues.....within few years Tata Teleservices will be unable to provide Photon Plus services owing to spectrum scarcity..........for this Tata Teleservices has some options....... It can off-load the Voice subscribers from CDMA to GSM platform and dedicate most (or all) of the CDMA spectrum for Data subscribers only, still if this is not sufficient, it can demand for more spectrum. Having said this I would also like to say that other communication technologies like WiMax are far better for broadband services and does not have spectrum constraints......may be Tata Teleservices will tap into this unexploited technology in the near future.

Tata Teleservices GSM test signal (IND 025) in Andhra Pradesh was on air since January 2009, meaning GSM hardware and antennae were already up and running since then. I have been visiting Indicom outlets since Feb and they were always saying "may be next month" everytime, but it's already May-end.....still no news when the service will be launched? I've heard that Tatas' are launching the GSM services with a completely New Brand Name and Indicom brand name will be confined only to the CDMA services. So, I'm just wondering.....are they brainstorming for the new brand name, but not coming up with any idea?.......or are they strategically delaying so as to coincide the GSM launch with the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) launch due in Sept 2009??? What could be the possible reason??? For the past four months there is not a single day I went through without searching the internet for the launch details. Well....people think that I'm crazy.....but Yes! I'm really crazy...not just about Tata Teleservices, but the entire Tata Group. I don't see it just as a business house....it's a way beyond that.

  19. Where is Tata GSM??? It's already May-end......can't wait any more......I have never waited for anything for this long period in my life. If it was any other network I wouldn't have even bothered. Where on the earth is Tata GSM??? I can't take this any more.....
  20. Same here!! Desperately waiting for Tata GSM for a long time now!
  21. IND 035 is Tata GSM RF code and '9037' is the mobile number series for Kerela.
  22. IND 044 is Tata GSM RF code and '9043' is the mobile number series for Tamil Nadu.
  23. IND 025 is Tata GSM RF code and '9030' is the mobile number series for Andhra Pradesh.
  24. Dear Mr. Dixit, I'm a student at NRI Medical College, Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh). I use Tata Indicom (Nokia 6275) & Airtel (Nokia 6100). I have been recieving Reliance GSM RF signal (IND 01) for the past two months. I'm eagerly waiting for the Tatas' GSM RF signal, because Tatas' announced launch in Jan 2009 & it's already 5th Dec, but still I couldn't see their signal. I read you post and learnt that you are recieving IND 18 RF signal at Tirupati. Are you sure that you are recieving the same IND 18 signal? I'm expressing the doubt because someone mentioned that they are recieving IND 18 in Punjab. Please confirm this an let me know, I'll be very thankful to you. If it is confirmed then it is surely Tata Indicom GSM RF signal. Thank you once again for your time. Regards Bhargava Chandra. (dbchandra@gmail.com)
  25. Dear Sir, Tatas' have also announced that they will launch GSM in Jan 2009, then why couldn't I get their GSM RF signal till now? I'm from Andhra Pradesh and has been recieving only Reliance GSM RF (IND 01) for the past two months. If you know about the Tata GSM network code, then please let me know. Best regards Bhargava Chandra.
