  6. Vodafone to launch India 3G services in Q1 next year Vodafone Essar, India's third-biggest mobile carrier, will launch third-generation (3G) services in the first quarter of 2011, Managing Director Marten Pieters said on Thursday. The telecom major will spend additonal USD 400-500 mn in rolling out 3G across India. On an optimistic note, Vodafone said that it will showcase variety of offerings and applications via 3G. Vodafone informed that pricing of the premium service will be competitive and product based. Vodafone Essar, controlled by Vodafone, won 3G radio airwaves in an auction earlier this year in nine of India's 22 telecoms zones. The company last week named Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson as its 3G equipment suppliers http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/vodafone-to-launch-india-3g-servicesq1-next-year_493023.html Mod can u please change the topic

  8. Apple’s Prototype CDMA Verizon iPhone Photos Surfaced (Rumor) Apple’s CDMA iPhone details we discussed in our earlier post and informed to you that it is under “AP” test phase. Now, some more photos claimed to be device are surfaced again and reported to be those are from a repair shop in Vietnam. These photos were first informed through Richy Rich, if this is true, definitely things are shaping up fast and fine for the Verizon iPhone from Apple. Richy Rich informed that these photos were live shots “originated from repair shop in Vietnam”. Here, another important thing pretty hard to ignore is that the earlier leak about DVT stage was generated from Vietnamese forum in May. In August John Gruber of Daring Fireball reported that a CDMA-variant of the iPhone 4, internally known as model N92, had reached Engineering Verification Test status, “one step below DVT”. One photo obtained by Richy Rich identifies the test unit as “N92DVT” http://www.mwd.com/2010/10/apple%E2%80%99s-prototype-cdma-verizon-iphone-photos-surfaced-rumor/

  11. NEW DELHI: The government is planning to come up with guidelines based on which the telecom operators will be allowed to continue using the spectrum after the expiry of their licence period. Telecom operators are given licences by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to offer services for 20 years. At present, there are no clear guidelines governing the renewal of licences. DoT says on its website, "The licence for Unified Access Services is issued on non-exclusive basis, for a period of 20 years, extendable by 10 years at one time within the territorial jurisdiction of a licensed Service Area." However, there is no mention of criteria based on which the licences could be renewed. According to sources, the government is planing to come up with a new policy for renewal of licences. The 2G airwaves licences of most of the incumbents including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and others will expire between 2014 and 2021. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) had recently proposed that the operators should be asked to pay a renewal fee if they want to continue to offer services at the end of the licence period, that is 20 years. Bharti and Vodafone had taken some of their licences in 1994-95 which means that they would have to pay a hefty amount in the next 4 years. Earlier, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular had moved TDSAT against Trai recommendations on 2G spectrum but later on withdrew the case. Sources said this (proposed policy) is likely to help the licensees to take a business decision. Based on this, the operators can also decide whether to continue or exit the sector.
