  1. You might have a ricmail account. But are you using that account to send your mail?

Judging from the name of your account pop3.ukonline.co.uk I think you're using a different email address to send the mail from.

amitstg has given the exact SMTP & POP settings above.

And almost no ISP allows mail relaying. Its a security precaution against spam and a ploy to make you use (and pay for) their services.

If you want to send mail from another address... download a small (and free) smtp server on your computer. there are several good ones (including IIS that comes with windows). Theres a discussion somewhere in rimweb on that.

  2. I don't think these stats mean anything. They're comparing market share in a sector thats growing a break neck speed. It is quite possible that the larger companies will lose out on % market share while posting massive growth (in actual numbers). It's a standard phenomenon that happens anywhere in the world. Big deal.

But yes - According to analysts, the decline in RCOM share is largely due to its CDMA platform. “Users are increasingly hesitating in opting for CDMA because of factors like limited handset choice and inflexibility in changing operators,” said an analyst. - is always going to be a big big challenge.

  3. Flashing the phone yourself wouldn't be advised because the new firmware might not be customised for RIM.

I think flashing the phone is possible although when I went with a software problem to the Nokia Pune Service Center they replaced the phone instead of just flashing it (which IMHO) would have fixed things.

  4. Abhay: Some GSM companies do offer some sort of "unlimited" schemes for instance Airtel gives 1000 Airtel-Airtel free minutes a month for Rs. 400 rental. Also they have roaming @ Rs. 1/min on Airtel networks. So scheme wise I don't see how they're any different from RIM.

Also more importantly I don't think unlimited or limited schemes in India are driven by Operating Costs. Cingular is a GSM provider who gives unlimited weekend/evening plans. So there.

And also while I agree with you theoretically in reality paan walas and doodh wallas invariable carry nokia 33xx handsets with GSM connections (usually Airtel or BSNL).

  5. Hey Guys,

I'm interested in moving to GSM/EDGE for now for a number of reasons. Has anyone been using EDGE around the Mumbai area? Whats your experience like? Who is the best service provider? How much does it cost? I'm looking for unlimited usage or at least 1-2GB.
