  1. Samsung Mpower TV S239

Hi guys Using Samsung Mpower TV 239 for the past one month ever since ported to CDMA from GSM. I needed a basic phone with following requirements: 1) Bar type 2) Good battery life 3) Good phone memory for contacts Fortunately, this phone meets all my expectations. I am a heavy user as far as making calls is concerned and this phone's battery lasts almost two full days (even after keeping it on during night). The phone also has a contacts memory of 2000 which is sufficient for me. I tried downloading Opera Mini and it gave me good response to Facebook and Twitter. Now I am trying Snaptu. I wish to try mobile TV and will get EVDO activated on my number soon. I have a small problem with this phone. I have configured Gmail on it but when I try to download my mail, 1) it starts downloading the oldest mail first 2) it gets rebooted every time after downloading a few mail. Apart from this, there are no issues. The phone is really sleek and cute, the call quality and network has no issues. The keypad is a bit problem as it is quite hard. One shortcoming which I see in this phone after using Nokia for years, is that if you receive a call from a number which is not in your contacts list and you wish to add it to some person already in your contact list, you can't do it. You either create another contact profile for the person or you have to edit the person's profile in your phone and key in the number.
  2. My Samsung Mpower TV 239 frequently restarts when I am connecting to my Gmail account. First, it starts downloading old mail, and during the process gets reset and restarted. Any solution to this?
  3. I have an argument in favour of Reliance. Its true that cumulatively, Reliance has lost nearly three lakh customers in MNP, while Vodafone and Idea are biggest gainers. But look at the figures of number of customres these GSM giants have lost. If Reliance has lost 3.5 lakh customers, Vodafone has lost 2.95 lakh customers, Idea has lost 2.40 lakh customers, while Airtel has actually lost 3.6 lakh customers, which means more than what Reliance has lost. If we go by the figures of customers lost of all companies, one can conclude that Reliance is second company to have lost maximum customers, but one cannot ignore that Vodafone and Idea stand 3rd and 4th respectively. So if Reliance lost because of bad service, being complacent etc, what can we attribute the loss of Vodafone and Idea customers to? If 3.5 lakh Reliance customers were unhappy with the company, 2.96 lakh were also unhappy with Vodafone. Is it not a big figure? It is a different story that Vodafone gained more customers that what it lost and hence stands tall in the list of gainers in MNP. My submission is that there is a churn out in all mobile companies and not just Reliance.
  4. Get the SMS pack activated through your Reliance webworld. It takes some time for Reliance to register the numbers ported in. This has happened to me. Till then, you cannot use certain functions. Check if your number has been registered in the system. If not, get it done. If yes, lodge a complaint.
  5. Ovi is a fantastic application store with some really good apps. I wish Nokia comes back to CDMA business and introduces some good handsets like E63, E71 or E52 in CDMA. The utility of Ovi store would be more then.

Thanks a lot Ravi Hi Kesav, thanks for reminding. Have just shot mail to the concerned in DoT and TRAI giving thanks.

In criminal law, there is a term called `mensrea’. The literal meaning is guilty mind. While pronouncing someone guilty, jurors take into account whether the crime involved mensrea. A crime committed by a person who did not have that itention is not treated as strictly as the crime committed with intention (or mensrea). I agree with comments above that MNP is still new and will take time to stabilise, and hence it is wrong to condemn it altogether. But what I wish to tell is that one has to look into the aspect of mensrea when you look at the chaos and confusion in the process, the large number of rejection of applications etc. Are these issues occurring just out of disorderliness of system or because some one is benefitting out of it? And if there is mensrea, then one needs to punish those responsible.
  8. MNP Experience

Hi all My Idea number has finally been ported to Reliance today. Its been nearly a month since I applied for the MNP first. I succeeded to get it ported in my second attempt. In the entire experience, one thing I realised is that mobile service providers are hell bent to foil your MNP attempt. There was no cooperation from my donor despite several written requests, nor from the MCH, who is supposed to be a neutral player and a facilitator. Like several of us, I finally wrote to Hon. Minister for Telecommunications, Kapil Sibal, the DoT top bosses and this is when the process suddenly got into motion. At a time when I had given up hope for my second MNP request as even the 15-day validity of my second UPC had lapsed, suddenly yesterday morning I got SMSes from MCH informing that my request has been accepted and the disruption in service will occur in the night. It happened on time, but the reconnection to Reliance took almost 14 hours. During the process, right from my application to final MNP, the Reliance guys have stood by me, trying every solution to get the things done. Of course, one would say that it was their job to help me since they were getting a new customer. But I could sense that they also realised that my MNP was getting unnecessarily delayed and helped me a lot. I personally feel that we should start an online petition addressed to Mr Sibal on making MCH more assertive and unbiased and give them punitive powers against mobile service providers who are putting spanner in the MNP process. We should also ask the DoT to get into action and act against complaints. My MNP experience in brief: First UPC generated: Jan 19 First application: Jan 21 Rejection of application: Jan 29 Second UPC generated: Feb 1 Second application: Feb 1 Rejection of application: Jan 29 (pls understand, MCH rejected it three days before my application) Subsequently, mail sent to DoT, Nodal and Appelate officers of Idea and Reliance. And lastly to Kapil Sibal. SMS for Acceptance: Friday, Feb 18 Disruption in service: Feb 18 night at 11 pm Restoration of service in Reliance: Feb 19 at 3 pm.
  9. MNP Experience

I doubt whether these are freebies. I feel they are some ploy to prevent customers from moving away. Perhaps if you apply for MNP, they will tell you that the customer is under special scheme (that Rs 100 free talk time) and hence cannot be allowed MNP. Please watch carefully before accepting. Yesterday, Loop sent me an SMS saying I am a `privileged customer' whom they are offering 1000 smses free. I accepted that but I feel that would stop me from porting out my Loop number if I decide.
  10. Dear Friends It seems the MNP process is in utter chaos. And the people mainly responsible for it are some top operators like Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance and to some extent Idea. But let me tell you, one of the major contributors to this is also the Mobile clearning house (MCH as they call it in operator's parlance). If one sees the cases of troublesome MNP processes, people porting out or porting in to the above operators are facing the maximum problem. If what a responsible guy from one of these operators was to be believed, all these operators have still not ironed out MNP procedures, as they anticipated that MNP would be postponed once again and never prepared themselves. These operators have virtually put the MCH schedules set by TRAI in disarray. e.g. The porting out requests are not properly conveyed by donor operators to MCH during execution and in turn MCH doesnt convey port in requests to recepient operators. As a result some times response from donors takes a long time, while at times when donor discontinues services, the recipient operator takes a long time to restore services from his end. I am also told that the disruption of service process, which was supposed to be just two hours in the night, is now being held even during the day and on an average stretches some thing between 24 hours to 36 hours. So there is a problem in the MNP although it will be eventually ironed out. So be prepared for some hassles.
  11. MNP Experience

From my own experience and the experiences shared above, it is now clear that the MNP system will take some more time to stabilise and become error free. What I realise now is that mobile operators, who have been consistently been opposing MNP, are taking advantage of the lacunae in MNP system to harass MNP customers. The reason for them to do so appears very simple: harass customers as much as possible to imbibe upon them that MNP system is full of problems and there is no point switching to other operators. Perhaps that appears to be their way of retention of customers. After two failed MNP processes, even I am feeling the fatigue and meaninglessness of making all the efforts. Although I am not going to give up, there are plenty who may give up their plan to switch and stick to their operator making a compromise with what ever they are offered in terms of services.
  12. MNP Experience

complaint sent to TRAI and Dept of Telecommunications Monday ----------------------------------------------- To Whom it may concern Telecom Regulatory Authority of India New Delhi CC: Idea customer care, Idea corporate care, Idea grievances, Reliance customer care. Sub: Unjustified rejection of MNP application first by Idea Cellular Limited and subsequently by MNP clearing house. Sir/Madam I am a postpaid GSM subscriber of Idea Cellular Limited, Mumbai region, for the past one year. I had twice applied for MNP in the past fortnight from Idea Cellular Limited to Reliance CDMA. Both my applications have been rejected on grounds, which I believe are flimsy, unjustified and illegal. First MNP application: Donor operator: Idea Mumbai (cell no 810XXXX000) Recipient operator: Reliance CDMA UPC code: IM296WMU Date of application: January 21, 2010 Status: After applying for MNP through Reliance CDMA, I ensured that all my previous bills are cleared. Since my new bill was issued in between the porting process (Jan 23), I also ensured that it was paid immediately so as to not invoke the default in payment clause for rejection of my request. There was no communication from Idea during all this period, either in the form of calls from customer care or SMSes. On January 29, I received an sms from Reliance informing that my request has been rejected by Idea due to invalid UPC. I sent another request to 1900 for UPC and matched it with the one I had keyed in my application. It was the same. I am failing to understand why my MNP request was rejected by Idea for invalid UPC. Second MNP application: Donor operator: Idea Mumbai (cell no 810XXXX000) Recipient operator: Reliance CDMA UPC code: IM894333 Date of application: February 1, 2010 Status: After application, Reliance guys ensured that my UPC is properly keyed in. I waited for four days during which there was no communication in the form of calls from customer care or SMSes from Idea about the status of my MNP application. Subsequently, when I pursued with Reliance CDMA guys, I was told that the MNP clearing house has informed the recipient operator that my application has been rejected due to invalid UPC on January 29. It is difficult for me to understand how my application dated February 1 was rejected on January 29? Reliance guys said this was due to some confusion and that my application will be reprocessed. It's been two days since and there is no reply from Idea as well as Reliance CDMA. Meanwhile, when I checked with Idea customer care, I was told that my MNP application is under process and no decision has been taken on it. PLEA: I, Abhijit Dattatraya Sathe, resident of XXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXX, Thane 400601, therefore, request you to provide relief on following counts after conducting a probe into the above information provided by me: 1) Action against Idea cellular for rejecting my first MNP application (UPC code: IM296WMU) without sufficient justified reasons. 2) Action against the MNP clearing house for rejecting my second MNP application (UPC code: IM894333) on erroneous grounds. 3) Reprocessing of my earlier MNP applications and completion of the process without any hassles. 4) Directions to the donor and recipient operators as well as the MNP clearing house to keep subscribers posted on day-to-day basis about the status of their application during the MNP process. Regards
  13. MNP Experience

My first experience: Date of generation of UPC: Jan 17 or 18 (which I confirmed again on Jan 21) Date of application: To Reliance CDMA on Jan 21 Donor operator: Idea (no response from them), no SMS from donor operator till date about receipt of application or process or rejection. Result: on Jan 29 informed by Reliance that my MNP application rejected by donor operator due to invalid UPC. (Reliance guys asked me to make a UPC request again. The UPC generated was the same I had put in my application. Don't understand what Idea meant by invalid UPC. ----------------------------------------------------------- My second experience: Date of generation of UPC: Feb 01 Date of application: Again to Reliance CDMA on Feb 01 Donor operator: Idea, got a call from them after generation of second UPC asking why I was moving. told them problem of bad network at office, they said it will be rectified and offered me to take a fresh complaint. When I refused, didnt pursuade much. Since then no SMS about receipt, process or rejection by donor operator. Result: Reliance guys, when I contacted them, said that my application was rejected by the clearing house on Jan 29. Please understand this. I applied on Feb 1 after generating a fresh UPC, but clearing house says application rejected two days before I applied. Reliance guys in Thane told me that they have pointed out this issue to clearning house people and are getting my application processed again. This means it will take more time again. -------------------------------------------------------------- I now request all friends in the forum to help me get email IDs of authorities in TRAI or DoT, whom I can write and ask for action against Idea. I feel that they are upto silly tricks to retain their customer, not understanding that this is eroding their goodwill.
  14. MNP Experience

Its utter stupid to say that and illegal too. What do operators who claim so have to say if I don't recharge my lifetime prepaid card for one year? Will they not disconnect the number and circulate it for fresh allotment? I think operators are upto dirty tricks now. They need a whacking from TRAI on this. In India, if you are given liberty to decide and interpret laws, you stretch things too far in your favour.
  15. MNP Experience

Applied for porting in for RCDMA once again yesterday. First attempt failed as my donor operator Idea responded after ten days rejecting my MNP application on flimsy grounds that my UPC code was invalid. Now trying with a fresh code as earlier 15 day period has expired. Have paid all bills of idea so far. The day I sent in SMS for the UPC code, Idea CC called up asking why I was porting out. When told that I have network issues in office which have not been resolved for nearly a year, they told that I shall witness improvement soon. They also offered to take a fresh complaint from me on this. When I said I do not wish to lodge any complaint, he said, `so you are sure you want to move out?'. Thats all. Now waiting for another six days for MNP to happen.....
  16. MNP Experience

My MNP Experience Date of generation of UPC: Jan 20 Date of application: Jan 21 Donor operator: Idea Recipient operator: Reliance CDMA Application status: Rejected today ie Jan 29 by donor due to invalid porting code I submitted my application to Reliance on Jan 21 and on Jan 22 received sms from them confirming that the application is under process. To ensure that the UPC is keyed in rightly, a senior guy from Reliance webworld asked me to forward the UPC code sms, which I did. Subsequently I received three sms from Reliance about my pending request, and now the rejection sms today. The reliance guys asked me send porting request again to 1900 to get the porting code (it was valid till Jan 30). I did it and the UPC i received matched with the earlier one and was the same keyed in on the MNP application by reliance? Whom should I write to get my grievance redressed? I think Idea has played a mischief. Also, I went through MNP Regulations 2009 formed by TRAI. Section 10 of the rules, which specifies responsibility of the donor operator say, "the Donor Operator shall, within twenty-four hours, verify such details and communicate to the Mobile Number Portability Service provider ----". If my UPC was invalid, the donor or the recipient should have informed me at least on the fourth or fifth day of my application. Its been ten days since I applied. Nothing happened. I have also seen Section 12 of the rules meant for rejection of MNP application. Rejection of application due to invalid porting code is the last of it (subsection `g'). All earlier subsections (non-payment, request in less than 90 days, change of ownership, subjudice, inter-service porting area) do not apply to me and hence Idea may have used the last resort. It seems if there is no redressal forum, I may have to apply again.
  17. MNP Experience

Superb experience, I mean, I sympathise with you, but never expected such thing to happen. Yeh Dil Maange More.... My MNP request is pending and even while my Idea no is still on, Reliance CDMA guys (where I intend to port in) asked me to put their SIM and dial *228 to check if the number has been transferred. I wondered and asked them how could I do when my Idea no is still working and not disconnected. They said try. Fortunately, the Reliance SIM is not working and I am spared from an experience like you.
  18. Dear Kepal Did you recieve any call from RCDMA guys before you recieved this sms (UCSxxxxxxx has been processed)? I have applied for porting from Idea to RCDMA and its been my 9th day today, but nothing has happened. Yesterday, I recieved a call from RCDMA guys telling that they have some problem with several numbers who have applied for porting in or porting out, on Jan 20 and 21. They said they are working on it and will take some time. They took down my alternate mobile number as well. After this conversation in the morning, I recieved similar sms as yours (UCSxxxxxxx has been processed) from Reliance on my alternate number. Even I would like to know what the sms is about. Its frustrating to find that your MNP is request is stuck up for all these days, where as others are getting it done some times as quickly as in 6 days. The system still has some glitches and we are the unfortunate victims. Don't know whose problem is it, the donor or the recipient, but it seems it will still take a few days more to sort out these issues.
  19. Today is my 7th day from the date of porting request made. from Idea to Reliance. RCDMA people called yesterday night to inform that they have received intimation about my number being ported in. But have still not received any sms regarding disconnection or porting process. Hope that will be completed today.
  20. MNP Retention Offer You Received

Dear Mr Nath Every service provider offers the auto-debit facility to pay your bills. All you have to do is get an auto-debit form from the gallery, fill it providing your bank account details and submit it. The form is then sent to your bank and once approved, your bill gets debited from your bank account each month. It will be reflected in your account statement and perhaps you will get an sms once the transaction takes place.
  21. Agree Rajanbhai, it might cause unnecessary panic. I am sure Telecordia has taken enough steps to secure its database.
  22. Will MNP Help "The Big 3 Cartel"?

I think there is no service provider who can be termed as `the best'. Everybody here is talking about poor customer care of Reliance and I agree to a large extent. But I am shifting to RCDMA more because of its wider network coverage. I have experienced customer care of BSNL, MTNL, Idea and Reliance. Reliance ppl may be rude and do not help you out, Idea customer care guys are polite but they too in most cases do not help you out. There is not much difference between Reliance and Idea. I have also seen my colleagues who had network as well as customer care problems with Airtel and Vodafone. So the conclusion is that one should not generalise opinion about any service provider. Everyone's opinion is based on services available locally.
  23. I don't understand why operators are either misleading customers about MNP or delaying the process. In my case, its been six days since I have applied for porting in from Idea to RCDMA. But the process is yet to be cleared from my donor operator. Anyway, its very clear that MNP can take place between two different platforms as well ie from CDMA to GSM and from GSM to CDMA. Friend, CDMA to GSM and GSM to CDMA is surely possible. I suggest you better to keep away from such foolish networks. They can not train their staff properly, then how they give you a better service?
  24. 3G Phones Below Rs 10,000-Cdma And Gsm

Rajanbhai Please tell me your experience of Palm Pixi. I hope you still use this instrument. I am a new entrant to CDMA. So far I am using Samsung muzik as my secondary phone, the primary being Nokia E63. I have applied for MNP to shift my primary number to Rel CDMA. I have never tried any imported handset before and Palm Pixi has caught my attention. Will be grateful if you share your experience about the set, its present cost and how to get it. Thanks in advance.
  25. Everybody would appreciate if you could give us timeline of how your MNP went on. Particularly stages, the smses you received and the final experience. Thanks.
