  1. Dont know whether my comment is relevant. I wish to speak about Reliance CDMA network in konkan (Mumbai-Goa highway). In January this year, I drove from Ganpatipule to Mumbai and had a really bad experience about RCDMA. The network was barely available at Ganpatipule (i stayed at Bhandarpule) and next came a big shock. I went to three places enroute. Diveagar, Shrivardhan and Harihareshwar, and the CDMA network was zero at all these places.

I was there for two days and initially assumed that something was wrong with my handset. But then I asked mobilephone vendors in the region and found none of them selling RCDMA connections. The network is shut in this region, they said.

I can understand a company not maintaining a network in one village, but these places (Divegagar, Harihareshwar, Shrivardhan) have huge tourists footfall and no company can ignore its network here. RCDMA does. This was one reason why I ported back to Idea a few months later. Pathetic experience.

Otherwise, RCDMA and RGSM networks are fantastic in Mumbai.

  2. Today evening I received a strange sms on my Reliance CDMA no. The message read out, "We are unable to reach you despite several attempts. To avoid misuse, your services will be suspended and then terminated." I was surprised by the SMS since I have been using the phone continuously and at no point did I refuse any Reliance customer care call.

I immediately rang up 198 from my cellphone and asked the representative about the SMS received. He too was surprised and said no such sms should have arrived since I was using the cell and all my dues had been paid. He promised to take my complaint, but I have not received any confirmatory sms or reference number.

Meanwhile, all of sudden at 8.45 pm, services on my CDMA phone were all of a sudden suspended. I started getting a recorded message saying, "please contact customer care to restore your services." I called up the Reliance World in Thane, where the store leader confirmed that my connection has been suspended. He assured to look into it. Within half an hour my services were restored. I don't know why my service was suspended and how it was restored. I am not sure if the service will be suspended again without any rhyme or reason.

Yesterday, i posted on this forum about bad network coverage of CDMA Reliance in Konkan, which was a bad experience for me. And now the suspension of service for half an hour. It is a back to back shocker for me.

(Note: Mine is Reliance CDMA postpaid service, ported from Idea last month.)

  3. Hi all

I subscribed to Reliance CDMA after MNP because I read here from several members about the fantastic network it has across the country. I also had some experience that reassured me post-MNP that my choice was not wrong. But my recent experience of Reliance CDMA network has shook my confidence in Reliance CDMA. The casual approach of the customer care has even more shaken me.
Earlier this month, I visited Konkan with my family. I was carrying my Reliance CDMA postpaid connection for voice and Reliance GSM Blackberry for email and messengers. The network of Reliance, both in GSM and CDMA is pathetic in Konkan I found. Let me elaborate.
I visited Ganpatipule on Tuesday, January 8 and put up at a resort in Bhandarpule, just two kms before you reach Ganpatipule. The GSM network was totally blank at the resort, and only the CDMA network worked with two or three signal bars. When I visited Ganpatipule temple, the GSM network appeared, but was never stable even while I spent some time there. So I totally depended on my CDMA network and the Idea network of my wife’s phone, which was running with full signal bars.
There is more to come. from Ganpatipule, I reached Diveagar in Raigad district on Thursday and both CDMA and GSM networks of Reliance disappeared altogether. I was put up at a resort near the beach and thought the networks would be accessible once I go in the town. But I was wrong. Next day, ie on January 11, I drove from Diveagar to Shrivardhan (around 22 kms), and from there to Harihareshwar (another 16 kms), but there was no network of Reliance at all these places.
Since my CDMA phone did not work at all these towns, I thought there is some issue with my phone and not the network because I was not ready to believe that Reliance CDMA-GSM has no presence there. When I checked up with local kiosks selling mobilephone recharge vouchers if the Reliance network existed, they replied in negative. I hardly remember having seen any kiosk selling Reliance vouchers in Shrivardhan and Diveagar.
After returning to Mumbai, I lodged a complaint to Reliance customer care and their approach was not just funny but enraging. Following my complaint, I received a call from a customer care guy asking what the issue was. I told him that it was about network issue in Diveagar and Shrivardhan. “Are you still facing the network problem?” he asked. I explained that my complaint was about Konkan and not Mumbai. Then he said, “now that you are not facing the network problem, I’ll close your complaint.” A moment later, I received sms from Reliance saying your issue has been solved.

  4. Its been close to an year for me to shift from GSM (Idea) to Reliance CDMA under MNP. I am really happy as far as voice clarity, network coverage and tariff of RCDMA is concerned. But the single issue which some time makes me think whether I made the right decision to shift from GSM to CDMA, is the non-availability of good, reasonably priced RUIM based handsets.

I do agree that there are good handsets at the top end, mostly imported ones. But what impairs the CDMA acceptibility is the flexibility GSM offers. I use blackberry curve and there are fewer choices as compared to GSM. Talking about mid-level handsets, I have observed that if you have good battery life of a handset, you may not have a good phonebook and vice versa.

Though I have few friends in Reliance webworld who help me out quickly, I still feel that change of handset brings in too much intervention of service provider as compared to GSM.

Last month, I briefly changed from blackberry to Samsung 239 and again wanted to go back to blackberry. I remember it took me a full day to get my blackberry unlocked and get the number restored. Perhaps I am still influenced by the easy operatability of Nokia handsets. I am not sure how long my love for Reliance will continue. Never know, one day I may go back to Idea.

  5. A friend working with Reliance Communications told me today that Reliance Comm is going on for a major restructuring of its human resources. Those with high pay packets and age are either being given pink slips or could expect soon. The idea is to chop off dead wood by at least 60 percent. According to this source, Reliance Comm is preparing itself for a take over, in all probability from Mukesh Ambani. Please check.

  6. Reliance is deteriorating every day, since 2008 I am facing tremendous networking issue, call drop, no signal bar, their RxPower is mostly about -96dbm to -105dbm, which is worst. I don't know how easy it would be to port to MTS as I am using a Touch Pro, if its not a big deal I will surely port my number soon.

Do you mean to say MTS network is better than Reliance? And as regards what you said RxPower, what should be the standard range of that?

  7. I've got the message from reliance that my porting request has been successfully registered.

I'm porting from reliance gsm to docomo gsm. now I've got that message twice. i got this message 1st on 22nd and again today,

so what next? has my porting request been accepted by reliance or can it still get rejected?

now what will happen next, will i get a message from docmoo or relaince for the time/date of porting?

Don't worry. You will get messages from Docomo eventually. Reliance system keeps sending such text messages during the porting process. My experience says that you will now get a message only on the day when your switch will be ported.

  8. Yesterday ie on Friday, I faced a peculiar problem with Reliance CDMA network. From around 6 pm till 9 pm, everyone who was trying to call me on my CDMA blackberry was getting a`busy' tone, where as I was not at all busy that time. When the persons trying to call me would sms after getting fed up, the SMS was reaching instantly. When I tried to call them, again I was getting a busy tone although those persons were not talking to someone. I was in south Mumbai that time and I took my friend's handset and tried calling my own number. I got a busy tone again.

Called up blackberry customercare immediately, who put me on to the network guys. That network guy asked me switch off my BB handset, remove the battery and restart it. He gave me a test number and asked me to call on that mobile. This I was doing while I was connected to the BB customer care guy on a separate landline. I could not connect to the test number through my mobile number. But he could call me on my mobile through a reliance number. Finally, he accepted that there seemed to be some problem and activated my complaint.

Interestingly, around 11 pm, the problem suddenly disappeared and my phone was operational again. The CC guys called up on Friday night and this morning (Saturday) to sort out issues, but I told them the problem had been sorted.

Will somebody tell me whether my problem was a general problem with Reliance CDMA network or some individual problem?

  9. Just received sms from reliance

"Dear Reliance Customer, Thanks for your patience during the recent Blackberry outrage. RIM offers apps worth $100.Visit www.rim.com/newsroom"

The Blackberry offer of freebies to compensate the three day outage seems to be a farce. Checked blackberry application world this morning and noticed that BB is offering just two applications as gifts to begin with. One is bubble game and second one is a software meant for safe driving. I downloaded the bubble game and found it to be very ordinary. I would in fact think twice even if were to be available free on the app world.

Second application is about drive safely, where your SMS, mail and BBM messages are read aloud so that you can know about them while you are driving. This application (though a Pro version) is of no use to me. There is no other choice offered by BB to download applications. Hence I am reason to believe that the BB compensation offer is a farce.

  10. BlackBerry-maker Research in Motion (RIM) has announced freebies worth $100 (around Rs. 5,000) to comfort disgruntled customers in the aftermath of the three-day blackout of its services. But Indian BB-users may miss out on this unexpected compensation as telecom operators remained silent on the issue.

All those who are using Reliance Blackberry, please write a mail to the Blackberry customercare and ask them if Blackberry is indeed compensating by providing applications worth $ 100. The newsreport says the benefits can be availed from Oct 19, ie tomorrow. So hurry up.
