  1. Stv From Reliance (gsm)

Are you sure about this... I need an offer like this... I checked out Rim website>prepaid> Tariffs > Orissa Circle -- over there it was simply written "Reliance Mobile"; there was no mention of "CDMA+GSM" etc. Link : http://www.rcom.co.in/Communications/rcom/...pre_orissa.html Plz confirm as I need free CDMA RIM to Smart(GSM) calling in Orissa. I was using Smart but my phone has stopped working so I want to use my old CDMA handset.
  2. Well guys was very busy... thanks for ur suggestions. Got myself QuickHeal - Got a very good deal - had pay just 50pc - thats Rs.800
  3. Go Swadeshi

Exactly it is BB that is bringing back people to BSNL land lines. And to some extent as their ad says - "ghar ki pehechan" factor - especially if u try remain in contact with all relatives across the country - like our landline no - its almost 15 years old - cant afford to loose it now. (just running Sulabh + BB now) And their cust service - huh still seems to be in the socialist era. Remember had to pay and hd a hell lotta problm when we changed residence in '99.
  4. Right guys - kaspersky seems to be better one. But I checked out their site - prices are in dollars - no indian pricing - will extra taxes be applicable? Same is applicable to nod32 - both seem to have same pricing for their products - but nod has physical stores in India. And including VAT anti vir is coming around Rs.2.3K($ x 39)!! And one more thing - which one should I go for - antivirus or internet security - see I'll be in a 24hrs hi speed wifi area - internet and intranet access, i wont do any commercial transactions, usage will be restricted to downloads, a/v streaming and surfing. I dont mind if 3rd party malwares in my laptop eat away my bandwith or result in extra data transfer as wifi access is free as long as they dont effect my documents and files. But all data in my laptop is very important - and I cant afford more than 4 hours of system down time at any point. How is Zone Alarm - got some recommendation - its around $10 cheaper than kasper & nod32. PS - I always hd the idea that norton and mcafee are the best and costliest - but now things seem all ulta
  5. Yeah I checked out McAfee site - 1200 - well within my budget. How about Zone Alarm - had used it - was good - my laptop has just 512mb ram and runs celeron 1.5g - so will this be lighter than McAfee on my system. And all prices of ZA are in dollars - if I purchase online will i be taxed extra. Which one is better - ZA or McAfee. I've decided not to go with Norton - its too heavy for my laptop.
  6. Hey geeks, I need to purchase a complete genuine antivirus software with minimum 14 months of free updates etc for a single user. Which one should I go for ? Till date I'd been using AVG, then tried out trial mcafee and now am on trial symanntec. Of all these I found McAfee the better one. But now since I gotta spend some money - I need expert advice - please help me. Something not too costly - around a thousand bucks - that's my budget. I need get this by the 17th of this month. Waiting for response... pleeese help me
  7. Well one is concerned with surfing on the mobile itself - then its logical to go for Airtel coz: 1. You get unlimited access on handset only using Airtel WAP or NOP - for Rs.104 per month flat esy rechagre. No other charges. 2. You get better gsm handsets - u get complete browsing experience including vids and audio. And if ur at home - then its logical u go for broadband - all other models loose out here. And if ur traveling problem with Airtel is that they dont have edge at all places - so ur speed varies as u move in/out of edge enabled spots/areas. And one advantage airtel has - all there plans are free from data usage charges (except Airtel Live). So if downloading is not ur concern - u can use it for normal surfing - whether it NOP(Rs104 per month - only access on mobile phone), Mobile Office (rs498 per month - pc access) or Daily Rental(rs25 per day - pc access).
  8. I went through the Airtel website - they had something called Top Up under broad band - what is this top - since u guys use Airtel BB must b knowing it i suppose I went through the Airtel website - they had something called Top Up under broad band - what is this top - since u guys use Airtel BB must b knowing it i suppose
  9. This is how Apple has become Apple - when u can sell "DROOL", why sell features... after all drool sells more than features. And I suffer premonitions, confirmed suspicion... of the holocaust to come... holocaust when Apple will become the next Microsoft and iphone trotting guys will be seen downloading iTunes at 'not iphone trotting' friends place to transfer mere mp3s... well there is too much proprietorship with apple - and its strings will choke the veins of free information soon. And off course this leader will banish mankind from sharing certain things over bluetooth and soon u'll have only one music shop in the world -- the very term "shop" for music seems so !!!!!. Soon they will give u brilliant screens but nothing to ogle at... well at least ur friends can as they share that latest wallpaper... well iPhone users will prefer to purchase it from some place if available. And they will say - camera phones r for camera and not videos. But u'll say - I need d video too, it will say 'purchase the third party "Video recorder" But sure when ur bored, u can enjoy "proximity warning" flashing red on ur screen - after all it has proximity sensors and what not - seems more like some car with parking aid. It reminds me of those scenes in Matrix And u'll feel proud among peers but when back at home u know the real story. More over there will be two iPhone types in India - one Airtel type, the other Vodafone type - but non the free type - so practically u'll be locked with one sim. @Sougata - it seems you went thru the iphone write up in Telegraph
  10. oh common... iPhone is good just as iPod is good --- thats it - it ends there, yes i use the word "good". Just as there are loads of more funtional iPod alternatives, similarly there will be loads of more funtional iPhone varieties. But one thing, unlike the iPods, iPhones will not become that much a household name/product. Entry level iPods are available below 2k whereas it it will be 26/27k plus for iphones. When it comes to spending 25k, its definete that just the 'skin colour' is not enuf, nor is 'drool' enough, u need to look for 'real meat' - real features, where iPhone wont be able to 'push' hard. Its always a different story in the US, but else where - will it be able to shake off Nokia and others... will we forget the communicators, the Es, the Ns, the SE Ps and so on.
  11. Oh...kay, So it is this Plan 750. I was wondering there might be something cheaper Nway, thanks.
  12. @Racoon Which Zero Rental are u using with Bsnl? See, I'd a "Only incoming" bsnl @ Rs160 per two months rental and took Rs250 pm DataOne later. So now a days in the same bill I get charged @ 160 + 2x250 + taxes (bi-monthly billing) Is there any only zero rental DataOne plan... please tell me the details - I'll be able to save the 160 sulabh rental and get outgoing too.
  13. Samsung 2on Cdma

****... another **** things are hopeless on cdma front... all these idiots needed was an open handset policy like n gsm... reliance and tata would have rocked the nation. No doubt they r shifting to gsm. Just one policy of locking handsets will kill these fellows... and kill cdma and if just wait if number portability becomes a reality.
  14. Even if Rel launches evdo or anything even faster, do you think it will be cheap? Just look into what it is offering now -- paltry 1x dial up and look at the cost - 60p per minute!!! Remember when reliance launched this 1x dial up it was like a Messiah... gave us an easy and fast option to move away from bsnl dial-ups. Their website explained the reason behind the high cost (then it was 50p per min) - its faster and its wireless - (even for Hello users this advantage was forced upon) And now look into the present scenario - i have a hello connection and still pay 60p per min to access net at such paltry speed. So I had to go for a bsnl landline and their broadband connection. So I think if they again come up with EVDO or its variants, they will present them as premium service with premium charges. Lets see... after all even I want a wireless high speed connectivity option... but should be cheap.
