  2. RPG exits mobile retail space; sells 50% to JV partner Economic Times l 20 Dec l Mumbai Fierce competition in the mobile retail space has claimed its first victim. The RP Goenka Group has sold its 50% stake in mobile and laptop retail chain RPG Cellucom to joint venture partner Arun Nagar, founder and owner of Dubai-based Cellucom. Industry analysts peg the deal value at Rs 150-200 crore. However, this could not be independently verified. RPG group declined to provide details. While confirming the exit, a group spokesperson said, “This divestment is consistent with RPG’s focus on higher margin retail categories.” Cellucom is spread across Asia, Eastern Europe, South America and Africa. In October, Mr Nagar had announced plans to invest around Rs 300 crore on the India expansion, and said the company was adding 15-20 outlets every month. Currently, there are over 200 RPG Cellucom stores across the country, and the company plans to set up 500 stores by March 2010. It is expected that RPG Cellucom will rechristen itself to reflect the change in ownership. Cellucom, which is a mobile-and-IT product retail chain, has mandated Ernst & Young to find an Indian investor for the venture, said a source familiar with the development.

  6. Suggest Me A Replacemet Of Nokia 6275 ..

^^^ My dear Chirdeep, in my opinion you should hold your purchase for sometime and try Reliance GSM after its launch. As of now Nokia 6275 is the best handset available below the range of 10K. Imported handsets are already under scanner of DOT. So can't recommed the same. Regards.
  7. Quality Of Customer Care

^^^ My dear Lokesh, actually the problem with Reliance CDMA is common now a days throughout all circles. They are considering to their new coming GSM service only. It seems they don't want to care for their CDMA customers. All you can do is write a mail to the higher authorities of Reliance and see what response you get. Regards.

  10. No administrative tax on 3G winners: Tele Commission Economic Times l 20 Dec l New Delhi Telecom Commission, the decision-making body for telecommunications, on Friday rejected a proposal to impose an ‘administrative tax’ on successful 3G bidders, fearing that such a tax could impair revenue collections at the upcoming spectrum auction by over Rs 5,000 crore. At the same time, the commission has asked the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) to submit its views on the issue. The commission has also sent a note explaining the reasons behind its move to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, as the administrative tax issue involves the finance ministry, which is currently being handled by the PM. Telecom regulator Trai had last week proposed that successful 3G bidders pay 2% of the highest bid amount annually as administrative charges for using the spectrum. However, the department of telecom (DoT) warned the Telecom Commission against approving this tax “as it would reduce the revenue received from the January 2009 auctions for 3G spectrum by about Rs 5,000 crore.” The Telecom Commission’s decision will become a policy only after it is endorsed by communications minister A Raja. DoT sources told ET that Mr Raja is likely to endorse the move on Monday. Earlier this week, ET reported that the commission would reject Trai’s 3G admin tax proposal in its Friday meeting. The commission has also sought CCEA’s inputs on restricting the upcoming auction for 3G wireless frequencies to five players a circle after an NGO filed a PIL in the Delhi High Court challenging the cap. The commission gave its in-principle approval to the restriction on Friday. The finance ministry has already endorsed the communications ministry’s decision to limit the upcoming 3G auction to five players. The communications ministry had reasoned that it won’t be prudent to auction all the spectrum, even in circles where more players could be accommodated, and some spectrum should be kept in reserve. It also pointed out that auctioning all the 3G spectrum would lead to problems in 'future availability of radio frequencies for defence needs'. However, the NGO's PIL alleges that the DoT move is against Trai’s recommendations, which said that all 3G spectrum should be auctioned to maximise the government's revenues. The CCEA is likely to endorse DoT’s (as well as the the commission's) stance on this matter as the communications ministry has pointed out that since there was a huge disparity in the availability of 3G radio frequencies across circles, any move to auction away all the spectrum would result in major disparities in the number of players in each circle.
  11. ^^^ Ya, I too just seen it today in Manish Market.
  12. Delhi joins elite club with 100% mobile penetration Economic Times l 19 Dec l New Delhi Delhi has become the first Indian city to have over 100% telecom penetration. The latest government data shows that the city has a mobile tele-density of 109.9%, or has over 109 mobile connections for every 100 residents. Delhi, which had about 19-million mobile subscribers as of October-end, also joins the global league of cities with over 100% mobile penetration such as London, New York, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore. Delhi’s telecom penetration would be much higher, if the landline figures are also taken into account. The Capital was the first Indian city where mobile services were launched in 1995. “Delhiites love to live well, enjoy life and spend more compared to any other city in India. It’s therefore no surprise that the city’s mobile penetration is more than 100%,” said GSM operators’ lobby COAI director general TV Ramachandran. Despite an over 100% mobile penetration, the city still has significant scope of adding several million users. It is estimated that nearly a fifth of the city’s population of 17 million, who are in the lower income bracket, do not have a mobile connection. “Urban markets have achieved near saturation, while the rural market is largely untapped. Operators and handset makers will need to have two different strategies for these markets,” said Nokia India chief D Shivakumar. For operators, this means focus on additional services and better quality in urban India. Companies will have to sell mobility to rural users.
  13. BAD ESN is network specific... A customer in collections and blocked by the network / a lost or stolen reported handsets gets a BAD ESN Tag.
  14. My dear friend, CDMA also will definetely come under scanner. As Reliance has the largest subscriber base of CDMA mobile users. How can our govt. spare it ?
  15. Yes dear Amit, calls to the banned handsets will be blocked by the operator's side from 6th January onwards. Although operators are saying that they have to upgrade their network and in all it can take atleast 3 months to upgrade the network. So, it might be possible that this deadline could be shifted forward for another 2-3 months. Regards.
  16. HTC Touch HD Available Unofficially in India As a heads up for HTC fans that are anxiously waiting for the HTC HD touch to arrive, there are no official dates or pricing information from the company yet. Of course the Indian gray market is a horse of different color and there’s virtually no gadget that any company can launch that the market won’t get weeks or sometimes months prior to an official launch. While strolling around I popped into a mobile store for pricing on a few handsets and happened to notice an HTC Touch HD box. The price, which I’m sure you’re curious to know, was Rs. 40,000 flat. This could vary depending on the place it’s available at. We don’t know when it’ll get here or how much the official MRP would be so stay tuned. Courtesy : Tech2

  21. Apple's MobileMe Nabs iPhone Thief! Contacts added in the stolen iPhone automatically synced with the MobileMe service on the new Phone that the user bought Now there is one iPhone user less who would talk ill about Apple's MobileMe service. Apparently, the service has helped the chap get back his stolen iPhone! It all started with a visit to the drycleaners, where someone flicked Rob's iPhone. Now, instead of going around looking for the lost object, the chap decides to get the iPhone replaced. Not a very wise thing to do, you would think. Well, not if you had the MobileMe service active and if the thief happens to be a nitwit. Now, after he had iPhone #2 activated, he started using the device as usual - along with the MobileMe service. The next day he noticed unknown contacts making inroads into his contacts list. What the non tech savvy thief had done was to add his friends to the contact list on his newfound trophy. Nothing wrong with that! Thanks to the MobileMe application, these contacts automatically synced with the MobileMe service on the new Phone. A few telephone calls to the new contacts and to the police later, Rob was left with two iPhones, a $150 speeding ticket (that was for hurrying to the Apple store to get his new iPhone), and this million dollar story to reveal to the world. To recover his costs, the legendary iPhone has been put on sale on Ebay. Grab it if you happen to reside in the US. Courtesy : Techtree
