  1. when you run dslreport.com, what speed do you get? Which speed is that - the connect speed or download speed? I guess when we normally talk about speed is always download speed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well.. I didnt try dslreport. I will do that and will post the result here. The 7 kbps to 14 kbps speed, which I was talking about, was the speed I could see while the file was downloading. Initially it started with 14kbps, it gradually decreased and at last it was some 7kbps.

Yes, you are right, so I gave both the speed; connection and download, to make it clear

  2. Actually I am searching for a low budget dual sim handset. Because its required for me to have a GSM connection due to some project compulsion. I am using Reliance since its inception and dont want to change from CDMA to GSM. RConnect is the only way I surf net at home.

Only Spice has the Rconnect facility in its low budget dual sim handset. But the reviews are really bad for the handset. While searching for many other mobiles including Fly and other chineese mobiles, I came to know that they dont support RConnect. But chinese handset supports GPRS. So, now if I have to go for a dual SIM handset, the only option available to me is to surf the net using GPRS.

Now the main question is : Is the GPRS speed comparable to RConnect ? My kyocera 7135 connects at 460 kbps and download speed varies between 7 to 14 kbps. If the GPRS speed is comparable to Rconnect, I would surf with GSM. Otherwise the only option remains is to buy a different GSM only handset. If GPRS is the way, which service provider has better speed in Pune ?

  3. I was able to send the SMS to Vodafone-UK. They were also able to reply me this happened on Friday. But once again their SMSes are not coming.

    This proves two things:

    1. RCOM's claim that they dont have tie-up with vodafone-uk so SMS cant come proved wrong because I have SMS in my inbox from there.

    2. It has stopped working again, proves that they are really pathetic in incoming SMS service.

  4. There is an unbelivable and amazing situation.

I am working on a project where the team members get regular SMSes containing a password using which one can login to client's network. The client in UK is using Vodafone-UK service. All my colleagues are getting these SMSes on their GSM phones. I was not getting these SMSes. So I called up CC.

I am aghast to know that there are no operators in UK with which Reliance has tie-up so that they can originate SMS from their side which a Reliance mobile in India can receive ! There are two operators, one of them is Max Telecom, they can reply to the SMS but cannot originate !!

Now, this leads me to a situation that in order to be on this project at my job, I must switch to a GSM operator !!!

Anybody having any more info on this ? Is there anybody who is getting SMS from Vodafone-UK ? If yes, I can prove the CC wrong. Please help me...

  5. I have also applied for termination of my wife's connection. She told them that if they can convert to Prepaid then she is ready to continue. They told her to wait for 2 days for a decision on that. Should I hope that this too would be converted to LT ?

Yes, got the call from CC, they are converting to LT Prepaid and that too without charging anything !

  6. Thanks amit jain for the communique.

But if one use Jaadu 79, onnet calls also will be 50 paise instead of 33 ps at present in Jaadu 49 pack? or onnet calls will still remain at 33 ps under Jaadu79?

There is no such thing like Jaadu 49. There are only two Jaadus. Jaadu 35 (all calls at 1 Re) and Jaadu 79 (Local at 50p, Std&Roaming at 1 Re).

What you are talking abt is 49 STV where R2R is 33p, other 49p and STD 2.65.

  7. There is an ad in today's Times. In the Spice Dual ad, they claim that "Active dual modes for Calls/SMS simultaneously". What does it suggest ? I think its more than the call forward feature because they use the phrase "Active dual modes". I assume that the phone should have two towers showing GSM and CDMA signal strength

There are two models in the ad D-88 (bar type) and D-80 (Flip type).

Can anybody tell the prices of these phones ?

  8. I have changed my number 5 times.

Its very easy and no need to do any extra things. People have already discussed about it in this thread. But this reply is more specific.

I also had DAPO. When I moved from Ahmedabad to Pune, I went to web world and asked for Circle Change (Not the billing address change). They ask you fill up a simple form, you need an ID proof (And you dont need an address proof because you are not changing your billing address). Once you give the form to them, they will ask you to select a number from the available ones on their computer. You need to select one number (But its highly possible that you may not get the number that you have though of before going to web world). Once you select the number, practically within 10 minutes your phone number gets changed and you get an SMS.

Now, you would probably ask that you dont want to change your circle, which was my case. Correct. In that case you can do the same procedure twice. Say for example you can go to the web world in your city and tell them that you want to change circle. Say you are staying in Gujarat and want to change the circle tosay Karnataka. They will do it for you with the above procedure. For that there is no need to go to a web world which is in Karnataka to do the same procedure, you can do it very well remaining in Gujarat circle. Back again the next day (or may be the same day) you can approach the web world saying that you want to change your circle from Karnataka to Gujarat. Remember that this procedure is centralized and there is no need to be physically present at different location to change your circle.

I have done this procedure for mine and my wifes phone numbers multiple times without changing any plan. And I have not incurred a single Rupee to get our number changed.

    Hope this helps.
