Wimax Is Now Officially Part Of 3g Standard

Recommended Posts

Another head-ache for GSM operators.

Now they(HSDPA 3G opertors) must share 2.5GHz spectrum with wimax 3G operators.

So 3G has 3 options

1)HSDPA

2)EvDO

3)WiMAX

The startup-line is clear we'll see who wins the race.

I hope all new mobile operators will become green-field WiMax operators.

Everything at the superficial levels - No ground level changes yet. There will be someone who will engage in law suits, some regulatory authority goes on hybernation for few years etc....These operator babus like Reliance, Tata, Airtel & Hutch aka Vodafone happily dishes out legacy technology at premium price. When it comes to affordability, none of these standards would get node from average Indian customers.

NEW DELHI: CDMA players on Tuesday claimed to have got a boost to their demand of getting spectrum on 1900 Mhz band for Third Generation mobile services as field trials showed this band could co-exist with another band of 2.1 Ghz offered to GSM operators.

Extensive field trials conducted in Hyderabad by CDMA lobby Association of Unified Service Providers of India on behalf of Department of Telecommunications proved that the 1900 MHz (CDMA) and 2100 MHz (GSM) bands is possible, AUSPI said in a statement.

The demonstration, which took place in a real-life situation, were conducted over a period of several weeks.

COAI, the GSM operators' association, has been opposing the use of mixed band while allocating 3G spectrum on 1900 Mhz band saying it would result in interference.

"The demonstration has laid to rest the longstanding debate on interference-related issues between the two technologies at the boundary of the 1900 MHz band. The results of the field demo showed that both systems CDMA and WCDMA systems in PCS and UMTS bands, respectively can co-exist," AUSPI said.

Given the spectrum crunch in India and to meet the ever growing subscriber needs, this outcome will aide the DoT in making the right spectrum allocation decisions. This translates into huge savings in the spectrum being used by telecom service providers, it said.

This is really a very intresting and spectrum efficient head start for 3G.

WiMax on 2.5 Ghz

HSPDA on 2.1 Ghz

EvDO on 1.9 Ghz

All 3 provided same level of frequency.

We can see for real who is really a spectrum efficent technology.

We can see now a true winner.

This is really really a bad news coming out.

DoT unlikely to allocate 1900 to CDMA cos soon.

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/N...how/2491531.cms

I expect DoT to sincerely look into this issue at the earliest and remove any anomalies associated.

Allocation of the above spectrum for 3 different technologies(1.9-EvDO, 2.1-HSDPA,2.5-WiMax) on the onset is the key factor of technology neutral approach of the DoT.

DoT should ensure that all 3 frequency spectrums listed above is available for auction when it opens 3G spectrum bidding.

By ensuring this position we can give all 3 technologies right platform to compete in true sense of neutrality.

Either delaying 1.9Ghz for EvDO or 2.5Ghz for wimax is really bad thing in the technology neutral point of view.
