Replacing Laptop keyboard with Backlit Keyboard

Recommended Posts

has anyone ever tried upgrading their laptop keyboard?

is it possible to replace the current [stock keyboard] with backlit?

mine is a dell vostro 1510

obviously this voids the warranty and the dell is almost 4 years old

I've changed/replaced the faulty with similar. But never tried with different keyboard. If pins are matching then should not be a problem. The best way, contact Dell and inquire. If they yes, ask them part number and get it done from any where you feel like.

Well from my little knowledge I guess the pins wont match for normal and backlit keyboards and I dont a big seller like would be of any help in this matter better to hook up with some known computer tech who is into laptops and enquire and get it done.I will quote an example my Laptop hdd went off and I enquired with customer care and they said anything beyond 80gb wont support and cost quoted was way to costly I ended up getting 250 gb hdd and at a cheap price so check outside

For a backlit keyboard there's an extra narrow cable, which is for back-lighting purpose. The wide cable remains the same for both non-backlit and backlit keyboard.

You have to check if your motherboard supports/have the extra cable slot for the narrow one.

Have a Dell Inspiron Laptop which supports backlit keyboard.

ok, i got my dell battery and ram upgraded from quikr so i'll try posting a wanted ad to see what happens

[obviously this swap is much harder than the others]

after using my wife's macbook air for a few days it just seems essential to have backlit keys!
