Reliance Infocomm to Relay Apsara Awards on RIM Handsets

With the inaugural Apsara Awards function scheduled tomorrow evening, RIM customers for the first time ever, will watch its live telecast on their handsets. Reliance Infocomm will showcase a staggered relay of the clips of NDTV's live telecast of Apsara Awards on RIM handsets.

"It is unique that for the first time in an award show of such stature, the best in the category will be decided by a popular public vote using mobile phones. To celebrate this first ever vote-by-mobile, Reliance Infocomm, as title sponsor, is privileged to announce a special award ''R World RIM Popular Film of the year award' to be decided by RIM customers," says Mr. Mahesh Prasad, President Applications & Solutions Group, Reliance Infocomm.

'R World RIM Popular Film of the year award' is selected on the basis of votes cast by RIM subscribers on R World, which showcased 5 nominees for Best Film Award - Kal Ho Naa Ho, Bagbaan, Munnabahi MBBS, Koi Mil Gaya and Gangajal. As much as 7 lac submissions are received todate and the movie receiving the highest votes will win this special award at the Apsara Film Producers Guild Awards nite on 29th May 2004.

Reliance Infocomm had also organised 'R World Apsara Contest' on R World, its data application suite exclusively for RIM customers that received an overwhelming response. Over 1 million submissions were received within a week. RIM customers participated in the contest by answering a simple question on R World and clues for the same were telecast daily on NDTV India and NDTV 24x7 Channels.

Ashish Chedhha from Kanpur and Harain Shah from Pune are the two lucky winners of the R World Apsara Contest, who win a couple invite each to the Apsara Award's nite including airfares and stay at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.
