Congrats for the "promotion", dude!

Regarding the battery drain while using R-connect, you can keep it on the charger while using (if its a desktop charger like that of the LG RD2030) or you could use a data cable that charges simultaneously. For FWPs also, I belive you can charge while using.

Hey guys, go easy on all those graphics!!! We bonded slaves of BSNL and kin have to pay thru our nose to view them!!!
-
It can't be because of the "pressure of number of subscribers!" More subscribers could mean network contestion ...can't possibly explain network outages or low signal intensity! And network congestion I'v experienced very rarely on RIM ...but with the way things are going ...lets just keep our fingers crossed!
-
But we already have 80 p calls on 360 RIM voucher?! ....Or I guess its not available in your circle?
-
Why is the talktime so lousy - 2 - 2.3 hrs?! Shucks, even my RD2030 has a much better talktime!

Cool. Really need something like that now ...else BSNL could make a zombie out of you! Yes, I can see that happening. I know many people who have even taken their 400 MB data limit plan ...and don't understand much about it. I think the 1st bills are going to be a rude shock for many. The DataOne usage site shows log-in time, log-out time, ul data, dl data, and total (ul+dl) for each connection instance. On the top of the page they show the cumulative used in the current billing cycle. And they even add the night time free usage to it! So its very difficult to know how much data you will be actually billed for ...unless you urself keep adding up all the figures!! BSNL ........arggggh!!! And btw, the disrepency between what I log at my end and their site is v substantial - last time I logged about 1.5 MB at my end and the site showed 2.4 MB. I'v heard of other ways of BSNLs cheating too. I don't think even RIM can beat BSNL at it!

Thanks racoon for information, btw you have tested a speed on any system in which more than 256kbps connection have. * Not sure what you mean by that. If you are asking if I have seen a system with a > 256 kbps Dataone connection, then the answer is no. So, how much speed u get in day time and in night. And that's true and no doubt in that the BSNL customer care s**ks. * Rated speed is 256 kbps = 32 kBps. I generally get upto 30 kBps at night ...which is of course reasonable, keeping network overheads in mind. Daytime speeds vary ...not as good as night time speeds but not too bad. And yes, packet loss is next to nil ...whenever I tested Dont use much for downloading in the day, so can't give an exact figure right now. The Huawei modem u get from BSNL have a USB port because i heared in new modems USB port is coming up. Can you post Huawei model no. * The modem has dual interface - USB and ethernet. They also give you both - USB & ethernet cables. You can use either. I haven't tried the USB interface. Huawei modem model: SmartAX MT882. **One other issue - the DataOne Data usage site consistently shows a SIGNIFICANTLY higher usage than what I log at my end! I'm apprehensive about the bill I may be getting...

What is REALLY needed is a lock at RIMs end ...like the STD lock we get with BSNL landlines. Actually, i think RIM had that facility before. It was even advertised on their website. ...Another the features they quiety withdrew later!

True...Half of Jaipur is facing network problem. The southern part of Jaipur (vaishali nagar, khatipura, jhotwara, ajmer road etc.) is having the worst ever network by any operator lately. I can hardly complete a call without disturbance/call loss/no voice and what not, no matter where you are, even on the roof or open space. Things have been so bad for the last 5-6 months only. When contacted the RIM CC, they say that they are putting up more BTS in the area (They are doing the same for the last six months but not yet done; though typically RIM BTS setup in an area does not take more than 15 days) 46307 I suspect CC staff are just trained to say these things new BTSes are being set up, like recording machines. Because after complaing to them couple of times, it didn't help. I then wrote to the chairman's office and that helped for sometime, and they even sent 2 technicians to my residence! Thats good ...but then the problem shouldnt have been there in the 1st place ...and coming to my place won't really help - dammit I dont have a RIM BTS at my residence!!! In fact have never had a network problem till recently... And btw, nobody except CC seemed to know about the supposed new BTSes!! I guess another of li'l Ambani's Diwali gifts for us - behold the network problems!

Im on Dataone (256 kbps) since last month and speeds are decent and close to what is specified. Though daytime speeds are sometimes slighly less. And I dont think there is any truth in your friend saying that 256 and 512 kbps are equivalent. Actually the Huawei modem they give you is rated for max 25 Mbps upload and 1 Mbps download. So you can use the same modem for all their plans, but they do cap the speeds at their end. About the downtime, in my short experience with them - its been there but quite negligeble. On the whole its been pretty reliable. And I'v used P2P apps on Dataone - Bitcomet, Limewire and Shareaza. No probs with port blocking or whatever ...though I have experienced what Abhay has pointed out ...so the 2 to 8 freetime is of limited use ..and not to mention, also bad for health. And you havent asked, but I cant resist reminding you - BSNL customer care is HELL ...can't get any worse than that!
-
Besides, all the new plans/schemes are merely "reactive"... Also, network was one of the remaining good things about RIM ...its going bad in my area lately - frequent to very frequent total network outages!
-
The only thing RIM seems to have been in the last few months - COLD ...& stagnant!
-
i dont think so tooo, as mr Rajanpert said nothing is better than GMAIL 46128 Sorry for deviating from the topic, but i don't think Gmail is the best in all respects. I'v had big probs handling inline pictures and attachments ...can't forward mail I'v recieved with attachemnts/pics. Also mail formatting and emoticons are nowehere near to Yahoo! mails. But then Gmail does have stuff like free POP3, etc, which Yahoo! dosen't give...

LOL! Quite so! Who is to teach these companies English? Like just the other day I saw the label on Domex (household cleaner made by the esteemed MNC, Hindustan Lever) - "Kills all known germs dead!" Not exactly a negation like the RIM statement ...but either I'm ignorant, or there is some other way of killing where you needn't die...!
-
Yes, the way we can use other ISPs (like VSNL, Satyam, etc) for dial up, we should be able to use ADSL with other ISPs!
-
Sure keep the faith ..and keep a slow comp!
-
I just recharged 2 days back and no confirmatory SMS ...and also this time I got no call (recorded) or SMS saying that my account is close to expiry! Previously they used to remind 1 and 2 days before the expiry period. Yes, they seem to be slowly and surely shutting down all services... Also, couldnt find the 215 vouchers anywhere ...had to make do with 360 voucher.
-
No, not even for a single home user ...tho you can get a trial version which you can use for 20 days or so. And you are eligible for a fresh license every 4 months ...to try again. The only other AV which could come farily close to its ultra-small RAM footpring is probably F-prot. But F-prot's updates are quite large (probably cus they are not incremental) ...and no POP3 email scanning module. Also F-prot's detection rate is probably not as good as Dr. webs.
-
Forgive me ...but what crap u guys talking about? I don't mind getting the choicest expletives from Anil, IF he agrees to give me discounted tariffs...
-
Who said anything about smallest installers??? Its SMALL in everyway man ...EVERY!!! Read my lips...! But no, sadly, its not free.
-
Li'l Ambani needs patient customers like us ...always waiting ...rarely getting ...waiting ...waiting ...waiting forever Let us be nice & wait till next Diwali!
-
Dude, try Dr. Web ...AVs don't come any smaller than that! See my earlier post in this thread...
-
ONE lousy GB of data (upload+download) is far from enuf for a 256 kbps connection ...and not just that, the BSNL usage site consistently shows a significantly higher usage than what I log at my end using DU meter, BW Meter, etc... One more issue with BSNL BB: ADSL connections typically have a much lower upload throughput ...so don't even dream that you will be able to upload data at 256 kbps ...its far slower! For more on how BSNL (& others) cheat, dont miss this! Has anybody else using DataOne checked? And granted, BSNL sux in every way, I speak from 1st hand experience, but do we have a choice?

I'v been on BSNL DataOne for about a month now, and much as I hate BSNL, I have to admit that the connection is quite reliable and gives close to the rated speed. And they do test your phone line before giving the connection... Compared to my nightmarish experience with Hathway, it feels like a godsend! But BSNL customer support is ultra-pathetic ...if you have a problem, you could be screwed...
