  1. Sharing Gsm Numbers For Sharing Sms !

Bhutes, don't be lulled into such a false state of security! That abra-ca-dabra site which Spookie posted in the "intresting sites" thread could come mighty handful to do you in...
  2. Reliance Infocomm Bags Iso 9001

Oh? And how come these "minor errors" are almost always benificial to the company only??? Very, very rare that they err in favour of the customer...
  3. R Connect Displaying Wrong Usage

Mk15, one thing you should check for when that is happening - check for packet loss... I had 50 - 80 % packet loss on my Hathway connection ...so you can imgine...
  4. Tata - 2 yr Incoming Free

120/- ??? Nopes ...I believe its 160/- plus tax, urban plan.
  5. Mtnl Is Headed For A Big Crash

Besides Mouthshut, read about Sify horrors here (Techwhack). Read about other service providers there also ...very intresting how we are being milked... And besides Sify lemme warn you away from Hathway also - I'v just had a VERY bad experience with them. Got them to disconenct the service ...and they aren't refunding my dough (6 months advance)! Somehow India's Internet Service has gone all wrong...
  6. All About Nokia 6255

This is absolutely ridiculous ...it matters not whether 10,000 replacements were given or not ...the idea is to get ONE piece that works as its expected to! In fact the poor guy as been harassed because he mustve had to keep treakking to the service centre to get replacements ...and not to mention been without a phone meanwhile!
  7. Pathetic Broadband

Just see what http://www.niitstudent.com/india/ shows my 256 kbps DataOne speed as - Test Your Connection Speed ------------------------------------------------ Your connection speed is 12541 bytes/sec Your connection speed is 100 kbps 5 mins before it showed 68 kbps. Wierd!
  8. Mtnl Is Headed For A Big Crash

Amazing tariffs! I guess BSNL Pune seems way better than a company that can allow this kind of info to be put up on their offical website! And thats no compliment! Also, they dont seem to be at all keen in reducing tariffs of their 499 plan (dedicated internet access ph. line) or the Netone tariff of 10p / minute. These plans don't seem to make sense anymore, when people elsewhere are getting BB at the same or cheaper rates!
  9. Reliance Showing Wrong Usage!

I just tried comparing the data logged on the BSNL site (dataone) with my usage. Used DU Meter's stopwatch. Twice I checked ...their site is showing significantly more ...for eg. latest reading I got on DU Meter is 1.58 MB (upload+download) ...and the DataOne site coolly shows 2.45!!! So you see, BSNL can beat RIM any day at cheating! Something seriously needs to be done about all this... And Infogreek, your method of measuring cant be even close to accurate. For eg. you have taken into ac the file size you downloaded, but other data could have been transmitted unbeknown to you ...like maybe your AV or Windows updated itself few times or even possible spyware/trojans took up some bandwidth. Id suggest you do a proper test using dedicated software before arriving at a decison.
  10. Pathetic Broadband

How is it cheap when hes actually getting 2-3 kBps??? In fact such a low speed is unacceptable for almost anything ...except maybe text chatting. Whats more, what has been promised isnt whats being delivered! And that shouldnt be put up with!! I'd suggest you confirm your connection speed with maybe some speed testing site. Try www.dslreports.com speed test ...there are others also. And, just the speed is not the only parameter to measure your connection quality with. What about packet loss? I had taken a Hathway connection which was HELLway ...packet loss was around 50 to 80%!!! Not to mention other problems like speeds of 0.5 kBps sometimes and more than half the time it just would not work. No way I can put up with that ...and to make a long story short, I got them to disconnect it. Unfortunately I'v paid 6 months advance (Rs. 3,306 with tax) to avoid installation charges. And now they are telling me that I'll only get about Rs. 800 as refund! I guess I'll have to date them in court... I'v just got my BSNL Dataone connection (256 kbps) and tested it late last night. Gave a sustained throughput of around 29-30 kBps while dl a Rapidshare file. But BSNL's customer service is absolutely pits! But at least the #$&! connection works!!!
  11. Text chatting takes up very little bandwidth. Voice & video will obviously be much more. It would be best to install something like DU meter (or any other equivalent software ...search the net for it) and check the usage at your end, if you are in doubt ...as it would be very difficult for any one to speculate on how much data is consumed by surfing/chatting as it varies widely depending on where you surf! Another way (but v combursome) would be to note down the data uploaded and downloaded as displayed by Windows, before disconnecting and checking it with MTNLs site.
  12. The Real Broadband Speed

Most of the power ur PC consumes is because of the monitor. I'v noticed very often that most people either dont know; or if they know they aren't bothered to use the Power Saving freatures of their PCs. Set ur monitor to switch off after a specified time of inactivity (keyboard/mouse). You dont need your monitor if your PC is on just to download stuff. I'v set mine to go into power saving mode after 5 minutes.
  13. Nokia 2112 For Rconnect

How can you possibly get 8 - 10 kBps on a 56 kbps modem??? Even if you can connect at the rated speed ie. 56 kbps (I cant ...it usually connects around 50.6 kbps), the max you can get is 7 kBps. Possibly 8 - 10 kBps is the throughput you see while general browsing ...not while downloading a compressed file... And thats quite a different thing...
  14. Unable To Save New Ringtones

I havent saved any ringtones since R-Word went paid. Tried to save ringtones from the R-World, RIM Tunes section which is marked "M". Since I already had 3 ringtones previously stored (when R-World was free), it asked me to select the ringtone to replace. I choose one ("Vroom" something ringtone saved from Castrol section, long time back); but it says "Unable to replace ringtone!" Tried saving 3-4 ringtones from the same section; but it gives the same message. Anybody has a clue as to what the problem might be? I dont have a data cable, so cant use the comp for fiddling around with the file system... The handset in question is the good ole RD 2030.
  15. Unable To Save New Ringtones

Wow, thats a very tempting and generous offer Ashoksoft! Ashokjp, I guess a better idea might be to visit the LG service centre ...unfortunately its quite far out. Anyway, I guess there is no other way...
  16. Unable To Save New Ringtones

Ya, I dont see any way to delete the ringtone from the phone itself. Unfortunately, nobody I know has the RD 2030 now ...in fact hardly anybody has RIM anymore ...the few that had have converted to GSM. So nobody I know would have a data cable now... And buying it just for deleting a ringtone sounds ridiculous...
  17. Trai To Phase Out Adc By 2009

Music definitely ...but still sounds so farrrrrr out - 2009!
  18. Wow!!! I can only envy those who possess such loyalty! I for one, would switch without a 2nd thought to the best operator/plan that is offered to me...
  19. Bsnl Broadband Connection

Sites are not updated for sometime dude ...be it RIM or BSNL...
  20. Bsnl Broadband Connection

I got a call, few days ago, from BSNL asking me if I'd like to go in for DataOne. They told me that download limits are now relaxed from 8pm to 8am! I confirmed twice with BSNL helpdesk. And now they are saying its changed again - the download limits will be relaxed only between 2am to 8 am! ALL these ISPs seem to want to pull a fast one on the customers. What about those people who subscribed with the understanding that download limits are from 8pm to 8 am??? When will these download limits be history?
  21. Bsnl Broadband Connection

I woudln't get conned into paying 3,000 non-refundable advance, if I were you. I paid Hathway 6 months advance rental (to avoid installation charges) and the connection is the PITS!!! These people seem to be playing a con game! Also some ISPs are good in some areas and very bad in others ...so I'v heard. The only connection I'd suggest any one to take is one which he can extricate himself from in not more than a month...
  22. Tata Tele-services Gets Major Blow

Outrageous!!! Even if its possible, how many people actually carry those bulky intruments around with them anyway? Actually, those who do should be compensated for their labours in the form of lower tariffs...
  23. Have been getting loads of these kinda mails since the dawn of phishing! Ebay, banks, Paypal, et all! Cant post them here since I hit all of them with my trusty "Del" key! ...Else would have had a huge collection to post here by now! In fact not just phishing, my comp fends off all kinds of attacks everyday - phishing, loads of spam, mail viruses, spy/ad ware, network attacks, etc, etc. The internet is getting to be a more dangerous jungle everyday!
  24. Id agree with Ramchi ...also, the most important thing here is that the govt. itself is the problem. A large govt. is like a malignant tumor! Why dont people ever ask - "why do we need so much governance?" If we are to accept that statement, then I guess we should be happy with post cards ...or mebbe just nice, cute homing pigeons!!
  25. Tata Going For Min-min Charge

Really! If thats true, then we subscribers are paying LOT more as ADC than the telco has to pay to BSNL/MTNL!
