Compenn, If you ask me, none of the current models are worth it. 17 k absolutely not ...just take a look at what you could get in the GSM market with that!! Hopefully, RIM will come out with much better new models ...as they have promised. I'g going to wait to upgrade my RD 2030. If nothing worthwhile comes up soon, I'd just switch to a GSM.

I'd really like to know! Has RIM been lying all this time when its been saying that the 15s pulse has been withdrawn because of a TRAI directive??? How come Tata and BPL are being allowed to offer 1 sec pulse now?

Speaking about T9, when my RD 2030 was new, I had checked the T9 website ...and one of the features T9 is supposed to have is that its supposed to remember your preference for words ...as a simple eg. if you want to type "u" for you, whenever you press the 8 key, "u" should be displayed ...but my phone displays "t". Ideally it should learn and display "u", as that is by far the more frequently used letter! Do other RIM models suffer in the same respect?

I'd say the heating effect is due to the backlight staying on ...may not be a seperate problem! Also, Lithium ion batts are not supposed to heat up while recharging. Compenn, If I were you, I'd create a lot of noise with LG ...no ways you should accept their ridiculous verbal assurances.

Yes, I can't deny that ...but RIM is perhaps best at that. The best eg. is the DAPO plan!

How come you guys bought a phone for which there is no service for in your city? What would you do if you need repairs, etc?

Do you realise that Reliance is counting on its customers to say stuff like that - "I'm always bad at this plan stuff", "I was never good at understanding XYZ" and all that stuff!!! Thats how you can get people to pay more without it hurting as much!

Thanks Code! Well ...I coudldn't call up anybody at this hour so I decided to call the helpdesk again. This time he denied that it was a problem at their side ...asked about details and after 2 mins asked me to "Reset R-Menu" (now how come i didnt think of that??? ) And now its working fine. I'm mighty peeved that last two times the females misinformed me that its a temporary problem on their side because of upgradation! Liars!!!!!!!

U think WW is overpriced? I was at the LG service centre few weeks back ...and belive it or not ...their prices are... For eg. the LG RD 2030 batt costs double of what it costs at the WWs!

Hey guys, Iv been unable to access R-World since Wednesday! I called helpdesk and twice and they say its under upgradation ...and they wont say when I would be able access again. Everybody else having the same problem?

They haven't done anything about the SMS rates??? This is one of the major drawbacks of RIM's tarrifs - most other GSM operators here are offering SMS packages ...30p for a local SMS! And look what we are paying!!

And how does one check for these network issues??? If you mean complaining to the helpdesk, I have already done that many times! Luckily for me, the voice clarity using the handset is an issue only with other RIMs ...and very, very few people I have to call are on a RIM ...so for now I have just overlooked it... And as I had mentioned, I had taken the handset to the LG service station too ...they completey denied that there is any problem with the handset ...blame it on the Reliance network they implied! However the problem while using the handsfree continues with calls from any network ...guess will have to go to the service centre again for that.

Dear Greens, I compare things which are options for me ...and im sure most other people out there have the same options! The fact remains that leisurely surfing and all is not an option using RIM ...not at the current rates. True, access thru RIM means mobility ...but that would make it useful only to those who travel a lot with laptops. If RIM reduces the rates, I'm sure R-connect would find a much, much wider user base with its added convinence and higher bandwidth compared to wired landline.

Does the price not seem high??? For pre paid it comes to Rs. 60/hr!!! And if ur going to use it only R-Connect then for a 325 voucher you get just 2.5 hours of R-connect usage! Absurd! Post paid folks would end up paying 200 bucks extra even if they dont even use it for a minute ...and no night time concession in tarrifs either! I use BSNL's 499 plan with which I have to pay nothing extra for tel. charges and Sancharnet (which incidentally is cheaper and faster than VSNL) which is free after 11 pm, with a validity of 2 yrs for a 100 hr pack! Just compare that with RIM's tariffs. Only advantage is that RIM would give better bandwidth.

Reducing the volume dosen't seem to make any difference on my handset ...in any case I always keep it on the lowest notch. RIM is also advising that one should disable the "Clear Voice" option from the menu. This dosent seem to make any difference either!

That hardly seems likely ...main thing is that if that were so there would generally be a discernable lag ...which isn't there...

I'v always had this problem of echo and voice clarity ...but mainly with other Reliance phones only! I even got the phone checked by the service centre ...as Reliance told me its a handsent problem ...and when I went to the service centre, they told me its a Reliance network problem ...nothing wrong with your handset! Wonderful game of pass the buck! And now one more new problem - whenever I use the handsfree, the person at the other end starts complaining that hes hearing clicking sounds and my voice cracks intermittently. Guess I'll have to visit the damn service centre again now...

Well, I think one should certainly make sure whether the call is genuine ...and to what extent Reliance is associated with it. But how can you say Reliance has nothing to do with it? After all the collectors are appointed/hired by Reliance ...arent they??? If you are exploring a legal angle ...I'd suggest you note the tel. numbers you've got the calls from ...in fact might be better if you can retain the nos in your recieved calls list ...you can show that to the police... -
Oh, ok ...thanks for that info Vishal_Gupta. Never knew they needed to keep a list like that IN the phone! So mebbe my firmware is the latest ...I guess that "list" is old... Hmm And you have to upgrade that list the same way ...going to the service centre and all??? Damn!!!

No consumer should take such crap and keep quiet. I'd suggest you probe legal alternatives ...maybe even lodge a police complaint for threatening, intimidating and nuisance ...besides the other things you have already mentioned. And mebbe even give RIM the ditch! LOL! :'( -
Hey, ru sure its PRL: 2 ??? Mine is S/W: RD203F15 PRL: 1 I was in the LG service center last month and they told me I have the latest version!!! :'( And yes, these software upgrades make very little 'visible' difference. Mostly the changes are internal ...relating to network, etc. I also noticed an improvement in stand by time ...not too sure how that might be linked to the software though.

Well, I positively asked them if one could send SMS thru FTW, if it was connected to an SMS enabled instrument (though I dont know where and if they are available ...BSNL's landline SMS plan still dosent seem to be around. The answer was NO! FWTs simply dont support SMSes. Maybe they have changed it?
