  1. Parallel Phone With Fwp

However, no SMS facility with FWTs, I was told...
  2. Parallel Phone With Fwp

I had asked helpdesk twice or thrice (I never belive what they say just one time... ) if there is any way to have a parrallel line for FTP. All 3 times it was negative. So I guess officially at least there is no way. Actually, thats why I decided to continue with BSNL ...cus I have to have extensions! Have you considered FWT? And about recording conversations ...I vaguely remember reading something on Baazee.com about such a gadget. Check there...
  3. Issues with RIM Ethics !

Dhananjay, I bought my RIM in October 2003 in the Khazaana (shareholder) scheme (in Economy/Budget 149), in spite of everyone warning me of the impending doom! Well, one reason I did that was cus I dont have to pay a dime as down payment to get the phone. I read all the fine print I could find and also preserved some of the forms, papers and brochures, just in case... Well, doomsday never arrived, as I guess I was amongst those lucky ones who never had any "significant" billing issues with my RIM. Now I'v converted to pre paid. But I believe I still have those papers and if somebody really has a genuine case, I would be glad to give you copies of those ...if it really helps. Im in Poona. I believe there are many promises that wrere made and not kept. I even have a brochure clearly advertising the 15 secs pulse rate ...the heading is "10 p for short calls" (1 more reason why I choose RIM!). Also, another brochure mentions that for repairs to handsets, you can send your handset to the nearest Webworld. I'v had problems thrice with my handset and RWW people wont even look at it ...they simply pack you off to the only service centre here. If you really scrutinise the stuff, I'm sure you'll find many more such false promises ...esp. for you DAPO customers. However, in all fairness, I must mention that even other operators like Tata Indicom were advrtising the 15 sec pulse rate at that time ...quite aggressively too! Still, somehow I dont see people criticising Tata the way they do with RIM. Not sure what their scheme details were though ...I mean maybe they didnt have a time bound commitment ...like DAPO...
  4. Cracked LCD

gtran_rocks, that sounds cool. But what about the battrey? I mean if you cant do anything about it, then the back side of the phone would still look sad, right? Unless you change the batts also ...which would cost another 750 at RWW & double at LG service centre!!!
  5. Cracked LCD

OH?! Chirag, you saw body covers that cheap in Bombay??? I asked about it in the LG service center because one of my friend's phone looks like its been to a war zone ...and they told me it would cost around 1000 bucks to change them! And then too, battery remains the same as there is no cover on it... Any idea if these replacement covers are really good? How close would they be to the originals?
  6. Cracked LCD

It has been my experience that teh RWW guys pack you off to the service centre even before listening to what the problem is with the phone! So I'd suggest you go there directly. When I had visited the LG service centre here, they had put up a price list of parts/services on a notice board on the wall ...so you can check how you will be/have been charged. The SS should be able to give you that info on phone too.
  7. Nokia 2112

Hmm ...can't tell much from a pic ...but I hope and pray that its better looking than that sad looking 2280 ....UGHHH!!!
  8. R-World free till 30th Sept 2004

Though R-World has improved a bit, in my experience it still is quite buggy - very often it gives me some error msg when I try to access a feature (not just my HDFC bank a/c). I dont see why that should happen if they are going to make R-World paid! Besides I dont think they will make bank a/c access a paid service. If they do, at least I will opt out. Why pay for such a tedious way to access when you can access for free thru the net Might make sense only for those people who travel a lot and need to check ther a/c frequently.
  9. Wap access to Yahoo & MSN

Sweetncute_touch, few months ago it was indeed possible to log into Yahoo from my RD 2030 ...though it wasnt so reliable and more often than not it would give an error msg. There is another forum on this topic somewhere ...I even tried accessing by typing in the WAP URL ...after they removed the link from the menu. But nothing seems to work. Is anybody else having any success? Well, lets learn the law: what RIM giveth, it always teketh away at whim.
  10. Using Rd2130 In Europe

But the fact remains that one would have to invest in another GSM handset along with his RIM ...just for international travelling! I guess thats a major disadvantage as one could by a GSM tri-band and use it everywhere! Whats more you dont have to transfer your phone book, schedules and all... And RIM users without that crappy Nokia and the G-Tran would be at a bigger disadvantage in this respect. Btw, can the R-UIM card store phone nos? If yes, what might be the capacity, etc?
  11. Using Rd2130 In Europe

Oh ...that means most of RIM's handsets are useless for international roaming! That means one needs to buy another GSM handset for the purpose?! Well, thats one more negative about using RIM! Not good for frequent international travellers...
  12. That is great news! Hope it includes their SMS tariffs too. More handset options are desperately needed and flexibility with upgrade options like from b/w to b/w. And what would be really usefull is flexibility in allowing customers to change from pre to post-paid and vice versa as per his current requirement. As it is one is saddled with an instrument which one cant use with any other service. Flexibility within the same service is the least one can expect.
  13. Does Auto Redial really work?

BSNL sure seems to have the worst congestion problem ...congestion or whatever, one has to dial at least about 10 times to get their number. And the same is true if you try from a BSNL landline ...not just from RIM phones! I did some experiments with my RIM RD2030 and my bro's BSNL Samsung (GSM). I found that the auto redial hardly kicks in if the line is engaged etc. However, in the case of the Samsung the phone displays "User Busy" on the screen if the other line is busy and the auto redial actually redialls, eventually! Not so in the case of my RIM I dont know if this is because RIM does not signal the correct status to the phone, like what Mahinder says, as I have found that the recorded message that one recieves about the phones status on the speaker, is always correct - ie. phone off, out of range or busy. This dosent happen in BSNL's case. Not only does it not happen, it actually gives wrong messages! Like for eg. when my bro's cell wasnt being used for sometime, the incoming was blocked. And instead of getting a message to this effect, one could hear a message that the phone is out of range!
  14. Which Mobile Is The Best?

Why not just check online for reviews? There would be very few people who have used all those models ...dont you think?
  15. Mobile Bombs!

Well, Static, at least I'v never experienced any shocks when I'v used my RD2030 while it was being charged. Don't you think you should have made a fuss about it with Reliance/LG? And since these phones have such poor batt backup, I'm sure most of us would have used these things while they were being charged ...so its especially relevant to us RIM users, I'd think! Vingan, how would the probability double if you are using it with an UPS or inverter? And talking about news: There was an article with a photograph in todays Sakal, a local Marathi daily, about a cell phone which exploded while it was kept for charging. The explosion caused fire, as the area where the phone was kept was sorrounded by combustible material. The paper did not mention the brand of the mobile, but the sticker (on the backside of the phone body, where the battery is supposed to be attached) clearly read "Panasonic". The cause for the explosion was not ascertained and apparently nobody was hurt; as nobody was too close when the explosion occured. The owner however says that he had replaced the battery 6 months before (the phone being one and half years old). The battery was said to be an original one!
  16. Lg Rd 2030 Gets Switched Off Automatically...

Well, you had problems after you bashed up the phone ...but in my case I havent as much as dropped it once in the 8+ months that I'v been using it!
  17. Connectivity Problem

Selecting Line #2 would disable outgoing calls too ...at least it does on my mobile. I'v sometimes had people complaining about the same problem with my phone ...it seems to be an interconnectivity problem to me ...or network congestion. But here (Poona) I dont think RIM suffers from congestion ...esp. like BSNL and Idea (2nd worst in that respect). Besides CDMA networks obviously have higher capacity... You should complain to helpdesk.
  18. Lg Rd 2030 Gets Switched Off Automatically...

Emmi, what you mean by saying "quite flexible" seems to be that you are reffering to excessive "tolerance" or "play" between the phone body and the battery. I too have this problem in my RD2030 (with orignal battery and all)- the left side edge between the battery and the phone dosent fit too well and creates an irritating creaking sound when you use the keypad. I had complained about this to the LG service centre, but they say they simply dont have a solution! Just shows what LG thinks of quality!!! However, Iv never had problem about my phone switching off automatically!
  19. Code For Charging Battery

Ya, really ...battery backup really leaves a lot to be desired. The dude at the LG service station said CDMA phones need more power hence battery life would naturally be low ...dont compare with GSM. Anybody here in the know who could corroborate this? I suspect it might just be a way to waive the problem away without a satisfactory solution...
  20. Full Discharge Of The Battery.

The reason is obvious - it has to do with the phenomenon of "memory" in the battery. Those who are really intrested could look up some good literature on it... However Li-Ion batterys are not known to suffer from it. So it should not make a difference. In my case, I try to let my battery discharge completely (or almost compeltely) before recharging. Somehow it does seem to make a positive difference! Strange...
  21. Code For Charging Battery

Hehehehe Static, cool!!! I sure hope they do acheive the next breakthrough in physics. I cant try it cus my handset ain't Samsung... Come to think of it, if it is really become possible, I just might be the 1st to run and get a Samsung, next! Keep us posted guys. ...Just fantasizing!!
  22. Code For Charging Battery

Dear Static, if you are reffering to my post ...it seems ur mixing things up! Recharging a batt by punching in some code is obviously absurd! Sounds more like re charging a pre-paid phone, actually! I was only mentioning that there could be something like "reserve power" (like what Chirag mentioned) in the batts. But even if its there, its obviously not supposed to be used for any practical purpose ...else you might just have a batt ready for cremation!
  23. Code For Charging Battery

Wait a sec ...there just could be something like "reserve power". Im not sure about Lithium Ion battries, but lead acid battries, like those used in UPSs are not supposed to ever be completely discharged. Complete discharging is known as "deep discharging" and is likely to render the battery useless! Most UPSs have cicuitry to protect against this. Perhaps someone in the know here could tell us if this is true in Li-ion battries also...
  24. Lg Rd 2030 Gets Switched Off Automatically...

I dont quite understand the logic of charging the battrey w/o the phone ...I mean it should charge with or without it ...ya it might charge a bit faster maybe; but otherwise what difference would it make? Anyway, a friend of mine is just having the same problem with his Motrola GSM (C200) - he dropped it a few times ...and since the last time he dropped it, it just switches itself off at its own sweet will)
  25. Does Auto Redial really work?

Mastermind, its useful when your call dosent connect for some reason ...the phone automatically re-dials after ther specified time ...like after 30s, etc.
