1. Rumors have been doing rounds for long time anything solid on ground something to show they are true is yet to come

Don't worry DOT is about to finalize rollout obligations for 3G and 4G spectrum which ideally they should have done before auctioning the spectrum. Though RJIO is slow mover but still I would say they are working. However, there are no updates from operators like Augere and Tikona whether they will launch their services or sell off. Meanwhile, I would like to appreciate efforts of Airtel which seems to be serious in providing in services. They have already launched 4G services in couple of service areas when 4G ecosystem is yet to evolve. They have 4G spectrum in Delhi by virtue of buying Qualcomm's license but still they are launching first in non metro areas.

  2. I will believe these blah blah blah news, only when they start their so called, advanced, out of the real world 4G LTE service... With March 2015 as deadline for starting service, there is some mild hope..

People are working long hrs 6 days a week, and it is a game changing technology, many do not understand that 4g lte rollout at this scale over this large geography has never been done before anywhere in the world, that is why wait for a bit

    http://www.lightreading.in/lightreadingindia/news-analysis/296135/800-mhz-strategically-critical-rjio

It’s been close to four years since Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance has had pan-India spectrum for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the 2300 MHz bands. However, it is yet to roll out 4G LTE services using the spectrum even when rival Bharti Airtel has launched the services in a few select cities. The recent news crumbs that Reliance Jio Infocomm could choose cities like Coimbatore and Indore for the initial launch also indicate that the Indian telecom’s new giant-in-making may not yet be ready to take big-bang strides. Why so, even after the haul of frequencies in 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz bands? Why did RJio seemed bothered about keeping the 800 MHz clean? (See Why RJio Wants A Clean 800 MHz?) Well, it is now commonly understood that RJio, which earlier seemed to enjoy an unmatched head-start through a pan-India 2300 MHz spectrum win, is still busy stitching the other pieces together. While it has firmed up a series of infrastructure sharing deals for its LTE offerings, gaps remain all over. In fact, the technological developments in the area of LTE also mean that an erstwhile 2300 MHz asset could have turned a strategic disadvantage that RJio must figure out to handle tactically. Most likely, it has already has, and would likely be using those frequencies for backhauling purposes. RJio’s recent participation in the 1800 MHz auctions only validates that likelihood. That brings one to the assumption that for the access part of its LTE network, Reliance Jio could be using 1800 MHz, the liberalization of which is also a big reason behind changing the course for LTE operators in India away from TD-LTE and in favor of FD-LTE. In fact, ever since the telecom service licenses were delinked from the spectrum, the pan-India LTE presence potential that RJio originally enjoyed has been under real threat. So that should remove the disadvantages that technological and policy changes had effected for RJio, isn’t it? Probably not! Simply because while the 78 MHz of frequencies that Reliance Jio won in the February 2014 auctions for 1800 MHz bands would be good to begin with, there could be crunching pressures as the number of subscribers and network usage rises down the line. The 1800 MHz bands are already crowded and large chunks of contiguous frequencies would be hard to realize. So it’s important to secure contiguous bands of spectrum elsewhere and preferably so in a more efficient band. A long-term option for that would be to participate in a 700 MHz auction when it comes up. (900 MHz is already more scarce and pricier than 1800 MHz, so that’s obviously not a good option and no wonder RJio stayed away from that auction.) But if Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman Rahul Khullar’s statement earlier this year is to be considered then a 700 MHz auction may not be round the corner. Khullar was reported saying that such an auction would be unlikely before 2015-16. That smells of an uncertainty, especially given the history of previously delayed auctions, and RJio strategists should certainly feel alarmed and scout for alternatives. The 800 MHz bands, presently used by the CDMA players in India, could offer an alternative. Given that there only are a handful of CDMA players in the country and even the CDMA subscriber base is small, the bands are relatively uncrowded. However, if both CDMA and LTE airwaves are to populate the bands then it raises the possibility of interferences. So when RJio complained that 4G could interfere with 800 MHz band, RJio’s interests in 800 MHz became quite evident. A positive outcome for RJio was that the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) responded favorably, stating that use of appropriate filters and guard bands would help in mitigating the problem. The 800 MHz is a future-proofing that RJio would like to have in place before going for a big-bang launch of its LTE services. It remains to be seen if that happens through an auction or an acquisition.

  3. Reliance Jio may start 4G service from smaller cities
    Jun 5, 2014, 10.32 AM IST

Reliance Jio Infocomm may start its much-awaited 4G service from smaller cities like Coimbatore and Indore, before ramping it up to the metro cities in stages, industry sources and analysts said.

The telecom unit of Reliance Industries is fast putting up critical infrastructure and conducting trials to bring in affordable handsets and devices before the rollout. "The company wants to launch its network through a tier-II city like Coimbatore and Indore and come to the metros later," a person familiar with Jio's plans told ET, a view backed up by some analysts the paper spoke to.

Jio is likely to have readied its circle headquarters across all the 22 telecom circles with a chief technology officer at each place, people familiar with the matter said. As reported earlier by ET, Jio was looking to fill up to 500 senior positions. It isn't clear how many of them have been filled up so far.

Jio owns airwaves in the 2300 MHz band in all the 22 circles since May 2010. Under the licensing conditions, it must roll out services by May 2015 — that is within five years of getting the licences. The company also bought airwaves in the 1800 MHz band in a government auction in February this year.

It plans to launch fourth-generation (4G) data services using the 2300 MHz band, or TD-LTE that allows high-speed data at much cheaper costs, along with voice over LTE (VoLTE) on the 1800 MHz band, or FDD LTE.

It is widely expected to launch initial services later this year, with some expecting as early as September, and ramp up the operations over the following months. However, Jio never commented on a timeline for its launch. It has been busy stitching up deals to share telecom infrastructure, including towers and optic fibre, with companies such as Bharti Airtel, Reliance Communications, Viom and American Tower Corp, besides setting up its own infrastructure.

Meanwhile, parent Reliance Industries said it would take control of media group Network18, which has a bouquet of news and general entertainment television channels, apart from an ecommerce website. Jio plans to leverage Network18 for its 4G offerings.

The people said Jio is likely to have successfully completed trials on Samsung Galaxy S4 mini handsets, which can be used for providing voice over LTE on 1800 MHz. Jio didn't respond to an email seeking comment. Samsung declined to comment.

In a report, Sunil Tirumalai, an analyst at brokerage firm Credit Suisse, said Jio and Samsung are working together to having a "range of handsets starting at $150 (Rs 8,900) at the time of launch".

The people familiar with the matter said Jio won't be subsidising the handsets through bundled offers, but wants to make sure affordable handsets are available in the market at the time that its services are launched. Handsets that support 4G are currently very expensive.

China's TCL Communication recently said it was preparing to launch its Alcatel-branded affordable 4G phablets in a tie up with Jio, but a deal hadn't been finalised. It said Alcatel-branded 4G dongles and smartphones are already in the testing phase with Jio.

Jio is also likely to have completed the installation of base stations across 11,000 towers, and the number is expected to go up to 40,000 by the year-end. A base station, or a cell site, sends and receives radio signals from a mobile phone. A large number of them put together form a cellular network. These cell sites are typically mounted on towers.

"The company has already connected the optic-fibre network to these 11,000 towers and another 35,000 units of base station units are ready for installation," one of the people said. He added that connecting these base stations to optical fibre is critical to the company's strategy of providing "fiber-to-home connectivity".

The telecom unit of Reliance Industries is trying to ready over 1,00,000 towers for a faster rollout of its services. It plans to lease around 70,000 of those and put up the rest on of its own. "RJIO is going with a full LTE network (with voice on VoLTE). The base stations are dual mode FDD+TD LTE base stations (ie, two parallel networks in terms of capacity)," Tirumalai of Credit Suisse wrote in the note.

This will only be clear once they launch the service. Since inception, there have been different stories about their launch date and place.

  4. This type of sim cards available with all operators since last year.... I took one of Vodafone when my sim card lost...

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk

In Delhi I could see only Vodafone selling these type of SIMS. I recently bought airtel SIM. I have IDEA sim as well but no body is selling such SIMs. Meanwhile, I personally I don't like these SIMs and feel there should be a separate micro SIM. The companies are migrating to these SIMs to do cost cutting.

  5. Nano cutter is also available in OM(OPEN MARKET).

Sent from my LG-LS970 using Tapatalk 2

Vodafone Delhi is now selling 3G ready smart sims as shown in the picture below. You dont need a sim cutter or adapter anymore. These smart SIM can be used as a normal sim or micro sim. For nano sims a cutter can be purchased from Ebay etc or local shops and vodafone/airtel stores can help in cutting them. They are better equipped in cutting SIMs.

  6. Reliance Jio Infocomm 1800MHz Spectrum Win Confirms Takeover of Videocon Telecom

Posted by Webmaster on Feb 14, 2014 in Reliance Jio Infocomm | Comments Off

The 1800Mhz Spectrum Auction comes to an end with Reliance Jio Infocomm winning 14 out of the 22 Circles. R-Jio has won 5MHz-7MHz of 1800MHz spectrum in 14 circles for a total investment of ~Rs111bn. We believe it would look to complete the pan-India footprint in 1800MHz (to be used for 2G voice) through acquisition Videocon Telecom.

The Circles where Reliance Jio has bid and won the Spectrum complement the circles where Mukesh Ambani backed Videocon Telecom has already secured 1800MHz spectrum in the 2012 Auction. Have a look at the chart below which compares the 1800MHz Spectrum Foot print of Videocon Telecom & Reliance Jio Infocomm.

    reliance-jio-videocon-spectrum.jpg

From the above chart it is evident that Reliance Jio Infocomm didn’t bid in circles where Videocon already has a footprint with the exception of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh the two states which are close to Mukesh Ambani’s industrial empire and may witness some unseen State of the Art Network Deployment and Telecom services anywhere in the world. MP was the first state which erstwhile RCom got its operating GSM license for in early 2000. The takeover of Videocon will help Reliance Jio get PAN India footprint in 1800MHz band thus augmenting the 2.3GHz 4G LTE Spectrum band.

  7. Reliance Jio (RJIL) so far has received 2.2 crore mobile numbers which paves way for the company to launch its 4G services and these number will start from 70 as earlier we shared on TelecomTalk.

As per list of MSC Code, in Mumbai circle Reliance Jio 4G mobile numbers will be as 70210-xxxxx, 70211-xxxxx, 70212-xxxxx, 7013-xxxxx, 7014-xxxxx, 70215-xxxxx, 70216-xxxxx, 70217-xxxxx, 70218-xxxxx and 70219-xxxxx.

  8. Reliance Jio Starts Deploying LTE Towers In NCR: Sources

rjio-tower January 14, 2014 by Gagandeep Sodhi Comments(2) no-image Post a Comment Print | Reprint | Bookmark and Share | Email This | RSS Rate this item (0 votes) The much-awaited launch of Reliance Jio Infocomm is getting closer. The company has started deploying towers in the National Capital Region (NCR), according to reliable industry sources. "The testing phase is over now and Reliance Jio has started deploying Global Base Monopole towers in Noida and Greater Noida," said a well-placed industry source. Though the date of the launch is not known, it is no longer a secret that the company would launch operations in the metro cities of New Delhi and Mumbai. Reliance Jio Infocomm recently granted media preview of its services. (See: Reliance Jio Inches Closer To Launch.) This was corroborated by another well-placed industry source. "Yes, the towers have come up in Noida and Greater Noida and they belong to Reliance Jio. All the infrastructure deals have been closed and the company is gearing up for the launch of the services now." Reliance Jio had granted order for Li-ion telecom batteries for 10,000 Global Base Monopole (GBM) sites across the country. rjio-tower

  9. Rel Jio surprise entry; Loop, Videocon stay away

    mobil.jpg

The slugfest for spectrum got under way with eight telecom services companies entering the fray for 1800 mhz and 900 mhz airwaves in an auction beginning on February 3.

Both the Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, have thrown their hat in the ring with Reliance Jio and Reliance Communications deciding to put in bids. Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Tata Teleservices and Idea Cellular will also jostle for airwaves along with Aircel and Uninor (Telewings).

With eight established players in the ring, the government is confident of realising more than the targeted Rs 40,874 crore non-tax revenues from the spectrum sale and usage charge. This will help finance minister P Chidambaram arrest the fiscal deficit at 4.8 per cent, much below estimates made by independent consultancies and rating agencies.

Loop and Videocon Telecom have not submitted applications for spectrum in the February 3 auction. State-run BSNL and MTNL, which recently surrendered unused spectrum in different bands, also have not put in bids.

The entry of Reliance Jio of Mukesh Ambani is the only surprise, as it is busy working on the launch of 4G wireless broadband services. Auctions for the two separate frequency bands will begin on February 3. Wednesday was the deadline for cellular operators to submit initial interest for participating in the auction. Withdrawals will be allowed till January 27.

Telecom secretary M F Farooqui said on Wednesday that the auction would go on as per schedule without any revision. He was hopeful that by next weekend, that is much before the auctions, the annual spectrum usage charge (SUC) would be fixed and clarity would emerge on the merger and acquisition guidelines.

The government proposes to levy SUC of 3-8 per cent linked to annual revenues of the telecom companies. Trai recommended a higher SUC of 3-5 per cent for all telecom companies from April 1 this year.

Last month setting aside all objections, the cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) adopted the Telecom Commission’s recommendations to sell pan-India 1 mhz spectrum in the 1800 mhz band at Rs 1,765 crore. It also cleared the floor prices for 900 mhz spectrum in Delhi (Rs 359 crore), Mumbai (Rs 327 crore) and Kolkata (Rs 125 crore), based on the recommendations of a ministerial group.

Under the auction mallet are 403 mhz 2G spectrum in the 1800 mhz band and 45 mhz in the 900 mhz band. For the November 2012 auctions, Trai had recommended a pan-India reserve price of Rs 3,622 crore for 1 mhz in the 1800 mhz band. In the January, 2013 bidding, the regulator had brought the price down to Rs 1,496 crore. Plus, it asked for a 60 per cent cut in the reserve price for spectrum in the 900 mhz band in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

Trai had also recommended re-farming of spectrum vacated by Bharti Airtel and Vodafone without any ‘reservation.’

Loop Mobile, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have made separate petitions before the telecom disputes settlement appellate tribunal for automatic extension of their licences without having to bid for the 900 mhz spectrum in Mumbai.

Confirming participation in the auction, Bharti Enterprises’ deputy managing director Akhil Gupta said, “We will await a government decision on spectrum usage charges.”

  10. Friends, reports says that TRAI ordered MTS to inform their subscribers about the closure of their service except Rajastan circle. MTS officials in Kerala is not responding to this news. I am using MTS as my prime number and also using MTS data card. I know many of the rimweb members are using MTS service. Please share latest happening in this issue and whether any MTS user got port out SMS in any circle. If porting out to other network which network you are choosing. Please share your information here.

MTS has already filed a curative petition in supreme court I guess and besides this there were no takers for CDMA spectrum so possibly MTS get a chance to take that spectrum.

  11. Govt. Plans To Ask All Existing Telcos To Pay Market Rate For Old 2G Spectrum Held By Them

    Source

I sold a piece of land in 2010.

can I ask that buyer to pay me today's rate for that land ?

i also thought in same line.

thats reason foreign operator done enter into indian telecom sector.

they know policy change and sink them in money invested by them

Our inconsistent and uncertain environment is prohibiting FDI inflows despite of the fact that India is second most attractive hotspot for investment after china.
