  1. a majority of the companies whose licenses were cancelled did nothing wrong except follow the govt process at the time.

the SC made bad case law by cancelling without refund of fees and interest lost.

the govt did not suffer at all due to its bad policies [jailing of some politicians is not the same as reimbursing financial losses]

only companies and customers get shafted

as usual principles of natural justice violated

    we are like this only

    3rd world = 3rd class mindset too

india is becoming a joke abroad

and we still dream of a permanent seat on the UN SC [not in this century at this rate]

china is more foreign investor friendly and double the market size of us

no one will need to invest here anymore after the vodafone tax dispute

can anyone hear the sound of us become irrelevant internationally?

We are going back towards a socialist economy. I dont understand it has been more that 20 years and Jessica Lal murder case is still not resolved. 2g spectrum case is on verge of being closed in just two years, culprits being freed, Telecom companies and consumers will suffer. Policy making is supposed to be done any by parliament and I dont know why is the judiciary is interfering in that.

  2. I have a reliance gsm number in Delhi, which I wish to de-activate. I shoot an email to their customer care for the same and they replied and asked me to contact nearest web world. I understand they have taken huge amount of money from the franchises so they want us to visit them. However, it is very inconvenient when the same thing can be done over a phone call or an email like other GSM operators (Vodafone, airtel etc.). Anyways, I visited their place, they told me since it is a prepaid number you can continue using it and do not recharge it anymore, someday or the other it will be deactivated. Believe me this this is the most annoying solution I have ever heard of. I believe there should be some formal solution for the same. I have many active connections on my name and want to de-activate numbers which I do not use.

  3. i think now just indian people buy nokia ,every one from other country are already shifted to samsung , dell , LG,motorola etc

india always go with name like splendor (honda), maruti ,nokia etc .

Nokia's market share is declining. For past one year nokia has lost around 15% market share. India's Nokia hangover is vanishing. Samsung is the new leader. This is the reason nokia is gradually shifting to windows phone.

  4. If you disable the Camera; will security guys allow you to take Phone? What is the logic left then?

Amit, in case the camera/camera software is not functioning and I can cover the camera with some sort of lid, it can be allowed since the camera is not working and is also not visible. I want to carry this phone because there are very limited options available in non camera phones and the ones that are available remind of the old days of mobile phones which have only basic features. Only thing they have is FM radio.

  5. Although, I have a non camera phone as my work place doesn't allow to carry a camera enabled phone. I have a Samsung Star which has a camera which I wish to carry with me. Therefore, I need your advice that is there any way to disable camera software on the phone so the camera becomes non functional. Although, I believe the the driver is housed in the operating system itself so it might not be possible. It would be great if you guys could throw some light on this.

  6. I am really terrified to hear this The network goes off for hours (4-8 hours) almost 4-5 times a week (yes week)

Even I find the network to be gradually deteriorating in my place ( but still not to alarming level). Well surely Reliance needs to wake up in this or else surely all will move out of it

I believe reliance will be first to go once consolidation starts after the announcement of new telecom policy 2011.

  7. I am also facing problem with R-GSM from last 1 week.

The handset display full signal bars, but where the operator's name is displayed, there appears "Emergency" and there are no incoming or outing call. And it happens any time. The handsets I am using are-LG "GM-200" and "GU-220".

Another problem I am facing with R-CDMA is some what strange. There is only one problem with it- I cannot make call from it only to my BSNL land line in UP West and every where else. Though I complained about it, yet still waiting for resolution as they say they have forwarded the complain to their network team.

Network quality is deteriorating for Vodafone, Airtel and IDEA since the MNP has come into force. However, Airtel and Voda are still better than other operators in the city, far better than Reliance GSM and Dolphin.

  8. Dear Friends,

    http://news.oneindia.in/2011/01/30/mobile-number-portability-how-change-charges-rules-aid0102.html

The figures released by MNP operator can only be trusted upon and rest can only be trashed.

Let us hold our breath and wait for the official figure from Syniverse for Dec for Haryana.

Mumbai, Jan 30: The early figures after the launch of Mobile Number Portability (MNP) show that Abhishek Bahchan's campaigns to woo the subscribers have positively worked for Idea Cellular. It became the biggest gainer with a net gain of 12,300 subscribers in just eight days.

    Ref:

Buzz up!MNP was launched across the country on Jan 20 which allows users to change their service providers while retaining their numbers. The figures made available by telecom companies to the Department of Telecommunications revealed the gain and loss for different service providers in India.

Here is the major shifts after MNP launch:

    * Idea bagged a net gain of 12,300 subscribers. (Net gain is the difference between the number of subscribers who left and those who joined)

    * Vodafone Essar got a net addition of 11,252 subscribers

    * Aircel settled at third position with 3,389 net additions

    * Airtel manged to get only 94 customers

    * Reliance Communications lost 9,837 subscribers and 192 decided to join it

    * BSNL also lost many of its subscribers.

  9. Finally all the DTH operators have A-la-Carte pricing on their n/w.

By analyzing the implementation methodology of different operators the following can be made out.

Overall there are 3 types of packagings

    (1) Basic packages

    (2) Bouquets

    (3) A-la-Carte channels

Airtel, Videocon & Reliance do not allow mixing of A-la-Carte channels with either basic packages or Bouquets. Only pure A-la-Carte is allowed.

Sun & Dish mandate users to subscribe to any one of the basic packages before selecting A-la-Carte channels. No provision for pure A-la-Carte. They do not allow mixing A-la-Carte with Bouquets

TATA Sky allows mixing subscription package with A-la-Carte channels. TATA also allows pure A-la-Carte channels. TATA does not allow mixing A-la-Carte with Bouquets

Comparatively TATA Sky implementation is by far the best but still does not meet the true spirit of mixing A-la-Carte channels with bouquets.

TRAI must intervene and make amendments in such a way bouquets can also be mixed with A-la-Carte channels.

Is it logical to mandate a DTH operator that if he chooses to buy a channel from one broadcaster in A-la-Carte basis then he should buy all the channels from all broadcasters only in A-la-carte basis???

When DTH operators have the flexibility of mixing bouquets with A-la-Carte channels when they aggregate, why can't they pass on such benefit to consumers when they distribute???

    :confuse: :confuse: :confuse: :confuse: :confuse:

LA Carte packages are a mere eyewash. I understand that due to subsidised set boxes and competetion dth operators are under tremendous pressure. Only dish tv has break even in its operations. Still, I would say that the channel pricing is very extravagant. If you compare these tariffs with cable in CAS areas, where each channel costs around Rs. 6, its too much. A hindi entertainment/ movie channel costs Rs. 20 on DTH and TLC costs around Rs. 30. If I subscribe 10 channels, it may cost me around Rs. 200. Even a news channel is charged at Rs. 5. If I take normal basic entry level pack I get around 100 channels of all generes with the same price in DTH and if I continue with my cable wallah, I get to see all pay channels he is beaming by paying around Rs. 300. This set up may suit people who take basic package and have to take additonal bouquets just a single channel which wasn't available in their basic package because of company's marketing strategy. DTH are being charged 50% of what the broadcasters charge the MSOs, so they could have done a better job. :Equivocado:

  10. DoT collects Rs. 93 cr penalty from new operators: Sibal

6 Jan l The Economic Times l New Delhi

The government has collected Rs. 93 crore penalty from new telecom operators for missing the network roll-out deadline, even as some operators have approached the appellate tribunal TDSAT seeking a stay on it.

"We have received Rs. 93 crore from new operators. The total demand is Rs. 219 crore," Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters here.

Uninor, a joint venture between Unitech and Norway's Telenor , has paid the penalty but under protest and has approached TDSAT seeking stay on such drive by the Department of Telecom saying the delay was from the government side.

The TDSAT has reserved the order on Uninor's petition. On the issue of forming Joint Parliamentary Committee, as demanded by the Opposition, Sibal said "it (the demand for JPC) was absurd. The government has given several alternatives to the Opposition but they never moved even an inch."

He, however, exuded confidence that Budget would be presented by the Government without any hassle.

"We will bring out the truth before the people about the entire telecom issue since 2001," he said.

Earlier, Sibal had quantified revenue loss of Rs. 1.43 lakh crore to the exchequer in 2001 due to change in policy by the then NDA regime by switching over to revenue share regime from fixed licence fee scenario.

Asked which are the operators who have paid penalty, the Minister said Etisalat DB, Loop Telecom, Uninor, Sistema-Shyam and Aircel are among the service providers who have paid the liquidated damages (penalty).

Operators like Uninor and Videocon may get away with penalty for delay in rollout citing delay in clearances and spectrum allocation. Their major concern is cancellation of licences where they were not eligeble but were given licences in illegaly. Although, Etisalat is a defaulter on both the fronts.

  11. I have a strange problem to report in RCDMA that I'd like fellow forum members to shed some light.

Both me and my dad are on RCDMA. Recently he complained that people have been calling him up in response to his calls which he says he never made! I ignored the issue as I know he can be absurd as far as technology is concerned !!!!! But recently I got a call from him and since he was around I went to him as to why is he calling me and to my surprise on checking his phone I was absolutely surprised to see his Samsung on home screen with no number dialled !!! The same happened to my wife too and a couple of more people !!! Even if you pick up his call in such situations the receiver can't here anything at their end!

I ignored this problem thinking it may be a one off for Samsung phones.

But than since last couple of weeks I have been facing this problem on my RCDMA BB Tour. I got calls from people who claim I called them up and left a missed call! On checking my call history I find no record of it but do get the record of the received calls from that person in reply to my missed calls.

Even today morning too a person not in my phone book called me up and proclaimed he had a missed call from me! And I had to accept it !

Does anyone else face similar problems? I mean it can be really embarrassing if such calls get made at odd times unintentionally like my RCDMA made a 1 AM call toomy uncle !!!

Thanks in advance for your views but I'd like people to shed some light on it !!

After reading this I recall those days when MTNL linemans use to hang on poles and use to make personal calls using somebody else's number. Though, this has no relation with the problem faced by you. Just a joke, pls. don't mind............

  12. :previous:

Yes sir.. This time RCom's tariff is much straight-forward and better than that of Tata..

Even though TataGSM is first pvt player to launch 3G services, there is a VERY BIG CATCH here.. Like the mistake they have done in CDMA EV-DO, they are concentrating ONLY ON CITIES and NO small towns are in their 3G roadmap for 2011.. I think TATA DoCoMo 3G will be a big LOOSER in coming days, if they continue these sh!tty restrictions (Locked modem, speed restrictions, voice bundling)..

Has anybody tried RGSM 3G network in New Delhi. I tried it on my nokia N73 but of no avail. I changed network type from GSM to UMTS and even to both but couldn't see the difference. I contacted RCOM CC but they say that you need send some SMS. I believe that SMS thing is for GPRS settings, but maybe CC has not been updated on troubleshooting 3G. I think that they have been asked to put 3G on hold untill they recieve security clearance from Govt. Another possibility could be that I need to go to Web World to get it configured.

  13. Well, what may be the excuses given to delay MNP further, by cartel?? My few guesses are below:-

    1) Not possible to launch at once in all circles.. So give time to launch in one circle for one year..

    2) The tyre of truck which carried the Forms for MNP got punctured.. So please launch MNP in 2020..

    3) Our SMS server can't handle too many PORT requests, so please postpone MNP till we upgrade our server by 2022..

    4) The tower workers gone for New-Year party are druken very much and please postpone MNP till their hang-over finishes at say upto 31-Dec-2011.. (The next day 1-1-2012 will bring NEXT HANG-OVER though)..

    5) We need to get sooo much One Rupee Coin changes to give back to customers opting for MNP (MNP charge is Rs19/-..) and we are visiting beggars in the gates of temple, all over India.. So postpone MNP till we return say in January12011..

I hope our telecom minister is not following your post. Your post is very educational for him. We shud keep our fingers crossed till Jan 20, 2011. Lolzzzzzzzzzzzz

  14. Hi guys,

    is MNP available in Delhi,

today i sent message to generate MNP code, and surprisingly i did get a message back mentioning the code for porting. i suppose then mnp is now available here.

    please let me know.

    thnx

I tried on RGSM but got the message,"MNP has not been launched for your your service area". From my point of view it has not been launched. When I had tried the same in november from the same number, I also got a generated code which had expiration date of December 15. It might be possible that they might be testing their equipment and as a result you might have a received a porting code. I have also called customer care but they do not have any information or purposely not giving any information. I do hope it to be launched before 31 march, 2011. Most probably it will be launched on Jan 20 which is the deadline for the rollout. Anyways let's keep our fingers crossed.

  15. previous.gif Let us understand something - different ways of cheating are good only for different periods of time. Right now they can get away with this way. After MNP, etc., they may find other ways. They will adapt with the same/similar mindset. The average customer is way too slow and not smart enough to realize how things go on from the inside, and how hes being ripped off or even contributing to the rot.

The ADA group has tried all kinds outright dishonest/immoral tactics in most of their undertakings, most notably telecom and insurance. Airtel is much worse. Still they are the largest telco, aren't they?

I totally agree with you. At the same time it's not just RCOM who have adopted these kinds of tactics. Operators like IDEA, Voda and Airtel also forcibly charge you for VAS services which you haven't asked for. Once you call the customer care, they will de-activate the service but previous charges are not refunded. This tactics are generally adopted for prepaid users. However, the question is that RCOM customer care is so pathetic and confused that they make customers run for their money to get services de-activated. They will provide you variety of solutions but none will work.

  16. I am also facing similar problem for Mobile Internet package.

Really I am facing serious problem. On 2nd Dec I have activated51/- internet mobile pack,Same Day it is activated and got a message for activation and deducted 51/- from my account.

Surprisingly second day also ,51/- got deducted from my account. When contacted CC, simply they are saying that you have activated your self , that is why it got deducted. In a week totally three times it got deducted. I lost 153/- in a week time and surprisingly after activating of 1 day, balance is showing only 12 MB. Means just it is consumed 1 GB for mail.

    Horrible. Reliance. God bless reliance.

These issues do occur with all operators but only on prepaid.
