The Most Awaited MNP Finally Introduced!
ami1 replied to SumitVerma's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Ok, i think there is definitely a big doubt about RGSM quality. Good idea to try with a new sim/no for some days before deciding. Thanks Everyon. Was hoping if the service is good I can shift to BB Torch on RGSM 3G. But i think i am stuck with RCDMA. -

Sorry, may be a little offtopic, but: Anyone has experience with Reliance GSM in Mumbai ? I am thinking of shifting from RCDMA to RGSM (can't shift to non reliance nos) mainly so that I can get benefit of simultaneous Data+Voice on 3G (and leave imported handset hassles of cdma) Is RGSM service OK ? Anyone using it here ? -

Great Idea. Maybe a separate topic should be started where some forward path can be discussed -

BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
ami1 replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Very disturbing. I am amazed how some people feel good about Govt trampling over citizen's constitutional rights. None of this will ever help the govt eradicate the bad guys - because almost all of them operate by paying off some govt officials. So buying a SIM means greasing some palms to get ration card driving license etc. Nothing more. Tapping phones is only to blackmail citizens or silence those asking uncomfortable questions. Maybe once in a while you can catch a few petty criminals planning something, but no terrorist who has come prepared to die and is armed to the teeth is going to be affected by your listening in to him - probably they'll just stop using phones. If all this effort was made in actual, honest policing & hard work there would be a big impact. without that, its just security theater - but until citizens at least realize that something bad is happening we have a very bad future. Time to limit all confidential talk to private meetings - till government issues diktat that all citizens should carry 24hour voice recorders and submit the recordings to nearest PS everyday. -
Mozilla Accidentally Posts Usernames And Passwords
ami1 replied to Honest's topic in General Technical Discussion
Its still unsafe. They can check against a known database of md5 hashes. A lot are available on net. The more characters your password has, the more safe. That's still quite difficult since passwords are salted first before hashing. Anyway, these are only password to your mozilla addons website - most people would keep different passwords for banking and other sites that matter. Offcourse, it is their fault the file was posted BUT I really appreciate that they didn't hide the fact and keep silent (no one would have known since only 1 person found it and notified them - most corporates would have kept silent when risk of people coming to know is negligible); but publicly acknowledged their mistake. -

Documents to Go posted in multiple places in the forum - see Palm section 3D apps & games topic for Palm Pre/Pixie or Android Apps topic for android handsets, blackberry apps topic in for D2G for BB etc. Quick office - i think its there somewhere in android section. Not for any other OS. -
Wow, you're really quick Rajan. Thanks for the HT Impex link. somehow i couldn't find any link even after searching for 5 minutes ! EDIT: Umm.... I can't find the tablet anywhere on their site ?

Most mobiles do not connect to AdHoc (P2P) hotspots. For android there's a workaround (search on google) but not for BB, Palm Pre etc. However, if your wifi chip is supported (most wifi chips not more than 1 year old are supported) then Connectify runs it in the normal router mode (and not adhoc) and then it will work with all mobiles like BB/Pre etc. For supported chips win7 also runs them in normal mode as described by Parin. Even my laptop wifi is not supported though my desktop wifi is.

Works perfectly fine on my chinese iPad clone (haiPAD). Once you have swyped on all the characters it shows the word in the text input field (or suggestions sometimes). It doesn't show each character pop up as you swype. Is that what you mean ? However, If you type characters one by one then it shows them one by one in pop ups. Holding a character types the alternate character.

With so many Doctors here, I propose a separate "Free Medical Advise" Section. Just to start off the 1st topic: I am having extreme coughing (productive) since last 10 days; No Fever etc. Alternating bouts of weakness & excitedness and an urge to post inane stuff on forums. Have already tried some random medicines like antiallergic, cough syrup, revital (!) & some tablets whose labels were too worn off to read (must have brought them for some good reason - so why waste it) Dosage/Schedule were on scientifically proven basis of 'eat when you remember or see the drug' (Human body knows itself best Theory) Have also bolstered it with some broad spectrum Kingfisher Strong to kill the germs. But still no improvement. What should I Do ? Gurus please chip in. Please post any tutorials or cracks here ASAP. Please stop all your important work and post answers HERE FIRST. This is most urgent. (and no, don't tell me to go to a doctor - that's like going to car service station - they'll start fixing everything that really doesn't need any fixing)

Which battery are you using ? EXIDE ? (sorry, i've an urge to post useless stuff today before going home )

One technical solution i can offer, with my extensive Android background, is as below: 1. Don't return the calls. 2. Let them call again when you are free. (sorry, couldn't resist. Am in a good mood it seems. - Wait for some Gurus to actually help. )

Your speed depends not only on your own connection (Modem & ISP) but also on the website's connection speed/capacity. So if the site is running out of bandwidth, your download will be slow even if you have a fast connection. Now most webservers/sites will cap the allowed speed per connection to ensure that no single connection is hogging all the bandwidth and everyone gets a reasonable speed. Most download managers try to bypass this by having multiple connections to download different parts of the same file - so if your download manger has 4 connections to the same file with each one downloading 1/4th of the file - then your speed will be 4 times of what you would get if you downloaded in single connection (provided your own connection can manage 4 times speed) Um... let me just say thats its all very complicated stuff. With never ending details, disclaimers and exceptions. All is well with your connection if you get good speeds in speedtest.net Maybe If you download videos with a download manager instead of streaming etc. it will be quicker. Or see if the site allows faster speeds to subscribers and subscribe to it.

Reliance NetConnect BB+ connection on hold after purchasing
ami1 replied to satishdave's topic in Data services
My problem got rectified in 2 days after emailing the 2 mail IDs given above. Must say i was nicely surprised that they called up twice and fixed the problem and then re-confirmed with me that its solved. -
Me & my friend got 2 pcs from here There's no online buying link on the site but you can email them that you need 1/2 sample pcs to evaluate for some large project and they give it for $120. This is excluding around Rs 1000 for courier. There was no customs duty luckily. But I would recommend you evaluate the one bought by Genius - that seems to have a better build quality (though processor seems rated slower) & available in India so no custom duty unknowns. Although the device is not bad at all, its not of samsung/apple quality. At this price, it is good for kids to read books and play games. Here are my key gripes: Its not very fast and using onscreen keyboard really s**ks big time for me at least - i would rather use either a phone or a laptop. There's no GSM/CDMA radio so you've to use WiFi - which means you are sitting at one place so might as well use a laptop. Android games don't scale too well on large/odd screens i think - because some games have strange display artifacts. Touchscreen is resistive though its sensitivity is good. Overall, I really miss WebOS's cards system - in android it takes 3-4 clicks just to switch to another window or tab and you never know what is running in the background - while in Palm Pre it is very simple and clear what's running, its status and easy to switch between them. There's no GPS. Also, I opened up the case and i am sure this thing won't last more than 6 months. In fact, after trying out apple iPad in my office for 2 days I think these tablets are completely useless fad. A good smartphone is much better. And you anyway need a phone so you keep it with you. No one is going to carry an extra device like a tablet when all it can do is essentially view presentations/web pages/movies/games etc. And reading books is anyway very stressfull on the eye compared to eBook displays which i tried and found to be as good as printed paper. And you can hardly type much with the onscreen keyboard. Better to get a big screen Smartphone or a small netbook or tabletpc.

Yes, i am also referring to US telcos only. Indian ones have not stooped down to that level YET. But the day may not be far off even Indian telcos adopt billing like Electricity Providers - more you use higher the rate. Unlike other industries where more you use lesser the rate (bulk discounts) Essentially, once companies become too big and powerful enough with their lobbying it starts making more financial sense to milk your customers without investing anything. Currently, the extreme competition in India was restricting such actions but there should be some 'consolidation' soon and then it'll be 3-4 big players doing market gouging. Something similar is happening to Airline fares right now (though I don't agree with Govt interfering with the pricing - only that seats booked/remaining should be transparently displayed - if govt starts regulating it then it'll be like trains - all tkts will sell out on day of opening of bookings)
-
Correct Doc. This must be the only industry which is worried about AN INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR ITS SERVICES ! Other businesses would die for such an opportunity of high demand where you can increase capacity and make money. But Telcos seem to be just running on Valuations through Spectrum Hoarding/Banking and just doing the minimum required to legally remain a teleco. I hope to contribute to this choking soon with my own droid pro !

Reliance NetConnect BB+ connection on hold after purchasing
ami1 replied to satishdave's topic in Data services
RCOM customer service is really pathetic. It'll take down the whole company someday. Even I am facing a strange issue since last few days. My data card Huawei EC1260 no longer works in BB+/EVDO mode only in 1X mode. In BB+ mode it fails authentication. Inspite of numerous complaints RCOM maintains that everything is OK and their people start telling me that signal/tower problems are there which will be rectified in few days. However, my other data card (ZTE) works fine in these locations. It was replaced few days back by Huawei under warranty and after that this problem surfaced. Huawei says it is showing full signal and broadband+ mentioned beside signal bar and it works in 1X mode so it is reliance backend authentication problem for evdo. I have also mailed to the above mentioned email IDs. Lets see if they do something. Has anyone else faced such problem ? Or any idea where the fault is ? -
I just got a Chinese iPAD clone - 7" Android 2.1 (2.2 update available) - based on TeleChips ARM 800 MHz with 256 MB RAM and 2 GB Nand & SD Card upto 32GB, Wifi, accelerometer, support for external USB CDMA EVDO Data Card, HDMI output etc Total $120 only. Some pics are attached. Sorry for the bad picture quality. will do better later. NOW, I need to know how do i unlock the screen - it asks for a unlock gesture but there's no mention of that in the booklet. Is there any way to reset the unlock gesture (it asks for previous gesture if i go to 'change unlock gesture') Anyone has any idea ?
