  3. HDMI Through Laptop, TV & 5.1 System

@Maulik From reading this entire thread, i conclude that there is lot of confusion and misconception. Lets clear everything. I have seen 1080p upscaled movies but they are not that impressive. Quality of upscaling depends a lot on the chips used for that inside DVD Player. Quality DVD Players from Pioneer, Philips, Sony etc. do a remarkable job of upscaling and the output is almost near HD Quality. Again it depends whether you have seen the upscaled movie on HD Ready or Full HD LCD Tv. HD Ready also takes 1080p input but it does not have Full pixels required in 1920x1080 i.e 1080p resolution at the panel level. So it extrapolates the missing pixels data digitally from the nearby pixel. Result, though it plays 1080p movie, the result is never the same as playing true 1080p on Full HD LCD Tv. Since I have medias that are 1080p in true quality upsclaing doenot justify the quality that it available from true 1080p. When you are saying you have true 1080p media, it means that either you have Original Blu Ray Discs or you have downloaded Full Blu Ray Disc movie untouched and uncompressed. Does your Laptop have Blu Ray Drive? As far as downloaded full blu ray movie is concerned, typically it will not be less than 25 GB in size. Have you this size media? Anything less in size which you may have downloaded and which is designated as 1080p is not true 1080p. This are compressed through softwares with sizes varying between 4 GB to 8 GB. This is not true blu ray 1080p. Since I can transmit video in true 1080p from my laptop I need a sound system to complete my experience. Again refer above for what is true 1080p. As far as sound is concerned, you mentioned in one of your earlier post that "Hence we can think I dont have any speaker system and will have to buy an entire new speaker set". If this is the case then any good 5.1 speaker system is not going to cost you less than Rs. 5,000/-. The creative device you mentioned costs Rs. 4,390/-. So you will end up spending Rs. 8,390/-. Now for Rs. 8,990/- you are getting a quality full featured philips HDMI home theater with speakers alongwith mobile. Another aspect is that though we all are very excited when we have HDMI Laptops and want to play movies on that, generally speaking a dedicated DVD home theater will always give far better visual quality because it is designed particularly for this purpose with lot of hardware chips and less of software based playing. In PC or Laptops this is not the case. One wrong setting somewhere in your graphics setting or DVD Software Player and your visual playing quality will differ vastly. If you want to spend more and go for Receiver. Look no further. Pioneer's 2010 range of receivers are feature reach and excellently priced. Pioneer's VSX-820-K retails at US Dollar 299 and has feature set at this price range unmatched by any other. Link For Pioneer VSX-820-K http://www.pioneerel...20-K.Kuro?tab=B If you opt for this you will need a power converted as all US Models will operate on 110 Watt whereas we in India have 240 Watt.I dont know whether this is available in India or not. Even if it is available, it will be priced horribly going by the past pricing of Pioneer Receivers in India. You can get this from US through Shop Your World Website which operates in India and you can make all payments in rupees to them. Customs and everything is their hassle. You will have to buy a matching 5.1 speaker set with this. Can't give you any suggestion for speakers as good quality brand name speakers which can truly realise the potential of this receiver may start from Rs. 25,000/- and above and there will be vast choices available. You will have do good amount of homework by visiting various AV Shops testing the speakers personally and finalize one which you like the most. Phew!! I hope all your doubts are answered and you have a clear picture now.

  8. Source: Economic Times NEW DELHI: A Jaipur-based auditor that had examined the books of Reliance Communications, or RCom, as part of a government-ordered investigation has sought protection from the telecom ministry, alleging a campaign of "harassment" by the Anil Ambani Group company. The auditor, Parakh & Co, wrote on October 1 to telecom minister A Raja and several senior officials of his ministry, saying it had received a notice from the anti-extortion cell, crime branch, Navi Mumbai, asking for documents and records relating to the RCom audit. The police was acting after a criminal complaint from RCom, the audit firm added. The auditor has told DoT that it had examined RCom's books on the department's directions as part of its professional commitment. "In doing our duties as directed by the government, we have unwillingly become victim of personal stigmatisation by a big industrial house," its communication added. ET has seen a copy of the audit firm's communication to Mr Raja. The letter claimed that the firm had been at the receiving end of a barrage of allegations from RCom and the police notice was the last straw. A spokesman for RCom said the company was merely following through on a statement made by chairman Anil Ambani while addressing the media and analysts on October 15, 2009. Mr Ambani had said at the time that the company was taking all steps to counter what he described as a "vicious and mala fide campaign of falsehoods and disinformation conducted against the group". These steps included "lodging a formal complaint with Sebi to probe the hammering of group stocks", as well as "lodging a formal complaint with the cyber crime police authorities to investigate the dissemination of false and malicious emails against the group from bogus IDs". Mr Ambani had also promised to take up "the conduct and actions of the special auditors with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India through our statutory auditors". Following Mr Ambani's pronouncements, RCom filed voluminous complaints with DoT, ministry of corporate affairs and other agencies in October and December 2009. The gist of these complaints is that "the entire report was drafted for the purpose of sensationalising irrelevant matters". This was done "apparently at the instance of its corporate rivals to hammer down its stocks". On Friday evening, RCom provided copies of these filings to ET. Though the police complaint was filed in October 2009, Parakh & Co received the police notice in the middle of September this year, said an official who spoke on condition of anonymity. RCom officials had earlier accused Parakh & Co of leaking the report. The police had been asked to nail the culprits, said an official of the Anil Ambani Group. In its letter, the audit firm has asked the telecom department if it should hand over the documents sought by the Navi Mumbai police as the agreement it had signed with the government bars sharing any audit-related information with third parties. A DoT official confirmed that the department had received a complaint from Parakh & Co, but declined to divulge any details or the government's stand. The Jaipur-based firm has alleged that RCom had filed 'false complaints' against it with the Institute of Chartered Accounts of India in an attempt to harm the reputation of the firm and its partners. Its October 1 letter further goes on to say RCom had filed complaints against it with the Registrar of Companies, terming it 'yet another attempt by the telco to play with the professional integrity of the firm and its representatives'. An RCom executive who declined to be named trashed the charge of harassment because the company and its chairman had publicly announced that it would seek action against Parakh & Co. "The auditors' move to approach the government on this issue now is an attempt at sensationalising it. How can they claim harassment when we have publicly announced our intention to counter the auditors' attempts at levelling baseless allegations against us?" this executive said. RCOM audit The auditor had examined the books of Reliance Communications at the behest of the department of telecommunications, or DoT, and had come to the conclusion that India's second-largest telecom company had under-reported revenues in 2006-07 and 2007-08, causing losses to the exchequer. The report said RCom had failed to show revenues of `2,799.19 crore, causing losses of `315 crore to the government in terms of licence and spectrum fees. The telecom department had appointed the special auditor after the Cellular Operators' Association of India, a grouping of GSM mobile operators, had alleged under-reporting of revenues by RCOM. The audit was later extended to RCom's rivals, including Bharti Airtel , Vodafone Essar, Idea Cellular and Tata Teleservices.
  9. Aha!! Big moment finally arriving. Now we can expect flurry of 3G launches by GSM biggies! Airtel, Reliance and others would not like Docomo to take the honours for first launch for too long. Plan pricing will be interesting to watch.
  10. Surprising. Your Notebook is able to access facebook and youtube site. Also your windows host file is clear. Which browser? If it is Internet Explorer, Click Tools, Internet Options and then Click Security Tab. Click Restricted Sites and then Sites. See any restricted site like facebook, youtube mentioned there. 11. I am using Palm Pixi. Tried finding Screen Protector for it but could not get exact size for Pixi. Now i have observed that Pixi has a hard screen surface and it does not get pressed when you touch it (Compared to other Touchscreen phones i have seen). So i am just assuming that the actual screen is covered by some glass surface and even without the screen protector, it will not get damaged. In view of this, i have some queries, -Is a screen protector really necessary for Palm Pixi and does it reduce the touch screen response in any way? -If one puts a screen protector, should it be extended till the Swipe Area or only till the screen. Does Swipe area response get affected if you put it there? -Any source for getting exact size Screen Protector for Palm Pixi? Approx. Cost. -If the exact size is not available, is it O.K. to use a generic one by cutting it? Request Pixi users to guide. Thanks in advance.

@Dkaile Current price of 42" Toshiba 42RV600 is listed at 46,990/- on EZone Online, So i believe will be around 43-44K in shops and Hyper City. However just seen an ad in newspaper by Vijay Sales for another Toshiba 40" Model 40AV700 at 39,990/-. Website Link for 40AV700 http://www.regza-asi...on/AV700_40.asp No Audyssey EQ, No Regza Link , No S-Video Input, No Headphone output,1 less component input are some of the diffrences of this model compared to 42RV600 alongwith 2" less screen size. One more interesting thing for Toshiba LCD is low power consumption. My 32" Full HD Toshiba has just 88 Watt power consumption, one of the lowest in comparison.
  13. Your Latest Hardware Purchase

On the net you won't find such prices. Toshiba is aggressively promoting its LCD in collaboration with Vijay Sales and Hyper City which are large Showrooms here in Mumbai. A fortnight back when i visited Hyper City, they were bundling some 3000-4000 worth of goodies with their LCD's. Will check out the current pricing physically and update here.

@ani_meher The ad you posted mentions in the last line in small letters, "Taxes and Octroi Extra". So this Rs. 750/- will be for taxes. Anyway i liked your quote, "For people envying ravi:"

@Dkaile Why to go into power converter and NTSC PAL issues. The model you mentioned is available on Ebay India for Rs. 47,600+500 Shipping. This comes with Dealer Warranty. It is the same EX400 TV but in India they call it KLV series instead of KDL in US. E Bay India Link http://cgi.ebay.in/S...=item415355c6b0 I bought Toshiba 32" REGZA RV600 Full HD 2-3 months back at 31,990/- from Hyper City Mumbai. They provide additional 2 year warranty for Rs. 1600/-. This was after a 1 month exercise wherein Full HD of Sony, LG, Samsung was evaluated by me. Ultimately i liked this Toshiba. This one renders most natural colors. With Sony, the rendering was not natural with too much of digital processing. The picture looks stunning when you see it in showroom for few seconds. But when you observe closely after a few minutes, it does not look like very natural as the camera would have shot it. Toshiba's specs for Constrat Ratio, Brightness are good. It has Audyssey EQ for sound which you do not find in many LCD's. Plus 10 Bit Video processing. Contains all Inputs including USB. Only con is USB plays pictures only. But i think this is a minor thing as generally you always have a DVD player with USB. They offer free wall mount which also costs some 1500-2000 in case of many brands. Brightness and automatic light adjustment sensor is there. For normal TV and Set Top Box input, Toshiba was spectacular compared to All. Full HD input was stunning. Practically it has everything Sony offers. Toshiba has entered India for LCD's just a year back and has only now started serious marketing. I was surprised to find the same model i bought priced at some $ 700 in US market. I think they want to penetrate India market so prices are kept low here. Toshiba's styling is conservative and won't turn many heads but i think intelligent buyers will first look at features, value for money and quality. They have a 42" in the Same series with Model No 42RV600. This was available some time back here at Vijay Sales during a scheme for Rs. 39,990/-. Do check out Toshiba. 19. Palm Pixi Screen Protector Query

If your current screen protector has air bubbles then it is pretty useless and you will have to change it. Best way is to go to a mobile shop and get it replaced as this guys have a cleaning fluid which they apply after removing the old screen protector, rub it clean and then fix a new screen protector. If you have the cleaning fluid with you at home, you can do it yourself also. However practice matters a lot in this thing and if you are not very conversant with it, again the air bubbles may arise.

For EVDO, you need to have the following, -You should be using OMH Sim Card. This sim card is with the Diamond picture on it. Most probably if you have purchased the handset from Reliance you would have already got it alongwith phone. Otherwise you need to have one. -EVDO is to be activated from Reliance Backend. For activating EVDO, call up Reliance Customer Care at *222 and tell them that you are using an OMH Sim Phone and want to subscribe to high speed internet and live TV and for this you need EVDO to be activated on your number. This will take some time and you will have to constantly follow up. If it is not resolved call at *355 which is the Reliance Netconnect department and ask for EVDO activation. Once EVDO activation is done, you can subscribe to any Netconnect Plan or use the Per Minute plan and enjoy EVDO speed.

Click on Start, then run and type CMD and press enter. Then type ping www.facebook.com Post the results here. Then type ping www.youtube.com Post the results here. Also post your windows host file contents here. This file can be opened in Notepad and the location is %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts where systemroot means the drive where your windows is installed. So if your windows is installed in C Drive Replace Systemroot with C Drive.
