  1. CONGRATS to RCOM They deserve to be there - after all they have earned their place in the dust. They are having the highest problems with MNP and wonder of all wonders with INP also. It appears that they were not expecting MNP at all and they had a lackadaisical attitude towards MNP right from day one. No one in RCOM where, when and why about MNP. All the horses are pulling in different directions.
  2. Which Postpaid service is better in Chennai?

I am at Alwarpet, some 10kms Max away from Perungudi AFAIK. Reg. yr other doubts, I will try to help you by posting here as and when I get the info.
  3. Which Postpaid service is better in Chennai?

Kamalbhai for the referral. @harismahesh, I have been a RCOM admirer right from the beginning, but the events in the last one and half month have made join the RCOM-Haters & Bashers-club now. In normal times, I would have vouched 100% for RCOM in Chennai. Right now, I am having numerous problems with RCOM for not having migrated my RCDMA number to RGSM since the last 40 days. MNP and INP - I will advise people not to go in for this with RCOM as they are in a total mess and nobody knows what is happening where, when and why. They are not at all ready for INP leave alone MNP. I am trying to force all my friends, relatives who want to do INP to not go in for INP and instead take MNP to other operator. I am that sick with RCOM's INP process. Otherwise for a new connection, RCOM is the best in Chennai - even RGSM service and network is very stable all over Chennai. Tariffs are more or less the same for RCDMA or RGSM. Data on RCDMA is terribly expensive and I do not see it coming down very soon. GPRS and EDGE is good in Chennai - tariffs are the same universal for all operators. If your usage is only local - you can go in for STV 35 (not too sure if this is available for postpaid also - earlier they had LP75 for postpaids) which will give you all local calls at 30ps per mt for 30 days. Sadly for STD, they do not have a similar offer. You can take PPS199 plan and activate LP 75 (or whatever it is now). Roaming will be at the new default Re.1 and Rs.1.50 per mt. As for MTS, I am not too happy with their voice clarity. My experience is based only on incoming calls. I do not have any MTS voice connections - I have only 2 data cards. Someone else who has a Chennai MTS voice connection may advise you better. No idea about their tariff plans and whether they are economical. You may also please call up the respective CCs and find out - alternately you can post here your usage requirements so that someone can respond appropriately. Finally, why postpaid and not prepaid? Enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  4. The next numbering series will be 280 - first it was 70, then 140, so the next number in the series should be 280, then 560 and so on. This way, TRAI will ensure that this scheme also does not see the light of the day. HA ha HA ha.....
  5. MNP Retention Offer You Received

For both my 2 Voda Chennai prepaid numbers, recently I gave a Port out request and instantly I was called and they offered me the following carrots: - 1. Roaming at 50ps both in and out. 2. 4GB GPRS free totally for 3 months 3. STD at 30 ps/mt for all south states. 4. 10ps/mt V2V and V2other mobiles at 50 ps/mt and lootingly V2LL at 99ps/mt. 5. All India STD at Re 1 for 3 minutes All the above offers are for 3 months, so I asked them after that? They replied - these offers will most likely continue for you. And out of the above 5 offers, I was asked to select any 3 offers and they will be activated automatically within 48 hours. AND IT DID. In one of my Voda, I chose 1,2, and 3 and in the other Voda - I chose 2,3 and 4. CONTRAST THE ABOVE WITH RCOM - they are still fumbling with offers. They do not want to give any offers nor do they allow the customer to even switch over. For my RCDMA prepaid number on which I wanted INP to RGSM, they are unable to do it right even after 38 days. I Ported out on 20 Jan 2011 itself and today is 26 Feb 2011, a delay of 38 days and still counting... They never thought that MNP will be implemented at all and were not at all ready for MNP. They are still fumbling in the dark and cannot do an INP also currently. All these 38 days they were consoling me with, "today it will be done +vely, there is some technical issue". Still the technical issue has not got sorted out. In my case, 4 parameters out of 5 are sorted out and the 5th parameter is still remaining unsorted. No idea when it will get sorted out. But yes, once done, I will get the same benefits as I have currently on my RCDMA - like callertune, tariffs (incldg roaming, which normally goes to the new roaming tariffs otherwise) and also my RCDMA Balance will get transferred to RGSM. Hope it gets done soon.
  6. @ Rajan, The only major benefit of prepaid over postpaid is that the tariffs are lower because of various full TT offers and on which no Service Tax is deducted - thereby giving you fullest bang for your buck. The ST as all know amounts currently to 10.3% and which sometime back was 12.36%. Maybe in this budget on Monday, it will get restored to 12.36% so that the GoI has lot of money for providing doles to poor and by this way - they also get their votes in the next elections. But on the flip side, yes, you have to be checking out daily or maybe twice, thrice, four times or even more every day to see if your balance has indeed vanished or not. Plus the headache of remembering the validities of the various addon packs etc. In all my Six (4 with RCOM and 2 with BSNL) postpaid accounts, I have never been wrongly charged for things that are being generally complained about by many prepaid users on this forum. Some charges are wrongly charged, but then when you complain, they do not close the case saying 'you were rightly charged'. And even in such cases, I email to the CMO etc and get the refund somehow or the other. You see the cellco also has to survive in this extremely competitive business - so what they give as FTT eventually gets adjusted by un-authorised activation of VAS packs etc. Eventually what you have gained initially, you will lose later and that is definite. In all my Seven prepaids (4 with RCOM, 2 with Voda and 1 with Airtel) there have always been some wrong charges or the other at some point of time. It is upto each user to decide whether postpaid is good or prepaid is good. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Some offers are available only in prepaid, whereas some other offers are only for postpaid. Its like choosing between the devil and the deep sea. LET THE BUYER BEWARE! @raccoon, You can just throw away the DoCoMo card and get yourself another operator. You were one of the most vociferous against people wanting to stick to one operator, come what may. Knowing you, I am sure you will discard DoCoMo soon. Cheers.
  7. Buying A New Mobile? Check Out These Sites!

Nice Compilation of sites, good work +1 to you fevin
  8. MNP Experience

All I can say is that you need a terrific lot of patience with RCOM - this is what I have been advocating for the last so many years on RW. Patience does pay the fruits of your labour. However if you do not have any patience, then latch on to another operator. The colour, shade etc of the grass will be seen only after you switch over.
  9. Reliance Launches "My Statement" Service For Prepaid

In Chennai/TN, RGSM works beautifully well and RCDMA always returns the error' " Network busy, please try later" Maybe it will also get introduced shortly for RCDMA +100 to RGSM for providing this type of info in the prepaid sector. Ofcourse other cellcos may be giving out more info, but then this is RCOM where everything is top secret and highly classified, it is easier to get info from the army, navy or airforce or defence but from RCOM - a strict no no...
  10. I have got a free 4GB pendrive offer if I recharge my MTS Data card for Rs 999. Come to think of it, this offer is available since the last 2 months.
  11. Rajanbhai, terrific info as usual and expectable (not sure if there is such a word in English, but nevertheless) from you....
  12. Rajan bhai, but how do I know which of the four USB ports on my PC's backside are USB2 or USB1.1. According to your information above, I checked my device manager and found 2 such ports on my laptop and the remaining 2 ports are I presume, USB 1.1. And on my desktop PC - I found the following entries: - USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 1 entry USB Universal Host Controller - 3 entries My desktop does not have any front USB ports. So which is USB2 and which are not? Any other way to find out? TIA
  13. MNP Experience

One more point is The MNP process at a retailer's outlet is very difficult - I mean the SMS that has to be sent by the retailer for a port-in customer. This SMS format is so confusing that a number of errors (as have been reported here) crop up and we think that the operators are delaying the MNP process. I found this from the neighbourhood retailer, not too sure about the authenticity or otherwise of it. From a WW or WWE, we assume that the CCE is educated enough to correctly type out the MNP SMS, but mistakes can occur there also. Let us give them some more time is all I would like to say. I am not saying that the GSM cartel as also RCOM are not indulging in any mischief.
  14. No need to apologise brother, you had given the information only, And I checked it up and reported here. for providing the information..... And what if the pen drive was not able to receive or send data above 4GB? So your info was timely and helpful.
  15. I will try when I am fully free, not for now.... In any case, I do not have any more doubts on the genuineness of the pen drive's capacity.
  16. MNP Experience

You are no doubt, right in your own way.... We have about 14 (is it 14 or less) operators in each circle, just think about that also. Surely an operation of this magnitude will have manifold problems. We have completed about 30 days only, it will surely take some more time to get ironed and come crisp out. Wait for some more time. I do not doubt that some operators are not letting their customers go so easily. Maybe this issue also will get addressed soon enough. If you remember, I was always sceptical of MNP ever coming in at all - even as late as December 2010. I remember having posted earlier that MNP will get delayed eternally by all our scheming operators - come what may. Even after the Haryana experiment, I posted that operators will resort to the 'failure-there' conspiracy and block MNP eternally. But still, we got MNP.
  17. Did the above reverse transfer also, the same 8.46 GB is copied back to my PC..... Anybody else with any more tests to be done? In any case, I do not think any good online seller would resort to a cheap gimmick like giving a 1GB or 2GB or 4GB pendrive and claim it to be a 16 GB pendrive. Maybe I am wrong... @ raccoon, Do you need me to do any more tests? Post here and I will do it and report the results here.
  18. MNP Experience

I would differ with you on this issue, MNP worldwide (as was reported here on RW somewhere else) has lots of problems still, so the system itself is faulty. It has nothing to do with INDIA. Maybe yes to the extent that operators try not to let their customers jump to the other side. But beyond that, it seems to be a technology issue rather than anything else. Maybe my perception is wrong.
  19. copied one folder containing 8.46GB data in it. Used space: 8.46 GB Free Space: 6.16 GB Capacity: 14.6 GB So this is a full 16 GB capacity pendrive. @ rajan, The 8.46 GB data was transferred from my old USB port, it took almost 17 minutes. Is it a USB2.0 port? What are the speeds on various USB ports?
  20. Got the 16GB at my place today, will check and post here.... Total Cost Rs 629 plus Rs 50 (for discount coupon)
  21. Motorola Droid / Droid X Data With Reliance Cdma

  22. 2G scam probe: CBI examining if Anil Ambani can be chargesheeted here 2G spectrum scam: Former Telecom Minister A Raja sent to Tihar Jail here 2G spectrum scam: CBI questioned Ambani, Raja together here Looks like ADA is indeed in deep sh*t now, hope he is able to get out safely.... Or maybe he will have to give A Raja some 'chaai' company at Tihar.... 2G scam: CBI brings Anil Ambani and Raja face-to-face during questioning PTI, Feb 17, 2011, 02.28pm IST Courtesy: ToI NEW DELHI: It was a face-to-face confrontation between ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani and former Telecom Minister A Raja at CBI headquarters over the issue of Dual Technology permit to RCom and its alleged association with Swan Telecom. The investigators repeatedly questioned the duo last evening over the equity issues of Swan telecom for nearly an hour but both remained "non-cooperative" and stuck to their stand, sources privy to the investigations said today. The questions pertained to whether Reliance Communication directly or through its subsidiary held more than 10 per cent equity, a threshold for cross-holding in two services providers in the same circle, the sources said. Swan Telecom, in which Tiger Traders Private Limited have 90.13% and Reliance Telecom Limited has 9.87% equity share capital, has been under the scanner over alleged diversion of funds to DMK-owned Kalaignar television. Ambani, 51, was called to the CBI headquarters yesterday for questioning by the agency in connection with the 2G Spectrum scam. DB Realty group Managing Director Shahid Usman Balwa, promoter of Swan telecom, is already in the CBI custody. According to the CAG, four Companies including Reliance Communications Ltd were provided CDMA based mobile service under Unified Access Service licence. Based on the recommendations of TRAI, use of dual technology was permitted on October 17, 2007 and RCom is alleged to have applied for the same even before the announcement of the policy. Reliance Communication Ltd. had complied with the requirements for permission to use dual technology on October 19, 2007. itself by depositing the non refundable entry fee of Rs 1,645 crore for 20 service areas through Reliance Infocomm Ltd. The CAG had said that acceptance of bank draft from Reliance Infocomm Ltd (third party) on behalf of Reliance Communications Ltd was not in order and showed the hurry in which the entry fee was deposited. In a statement here, ADAG had yesterday said, "during the course of his weekly visit to New Delhi, Ambani "met CBI officials to clarify ongoing issues, relating to telecom matters for the years 2001 to 2010". The ADAG statement said, "neither Reliance Telecom nor RCOM nor any Reliance ADAG individual, company or affiliate held even a single share in Swan Telecom Ltd at the time of grant of the 2G licence to them in January, 2008, or at any time thereafter". Raja sent to Tihar Jail under judicial custody PTI, Feb 17, 2011, 03.36pm IST Courtesy: ToI NEW DELHI: Former Telecom Minister A Raja, arrested for his alleged role in 2G Spectrum allocation scam, was sent to Tihar Jail by a Delhi court on Thursday under 14-days' judicial custody. "The accused is remanded in judicial custody till March 3," Special CBI judge O P Saini said. The judge also directed the Tihar Jail authorities to let the former minister have access to home-made food, besides his medicines. The court gave this direction to the jail superintendent on a plea made by Raja's counsel Ramesh Gupta. Raja was arrested on February 2 for his alleged role in 2G spectrum allocation scam, which, as per the CBI, has caused a pecuniary loss of Rs 22,000 crore to the state exchequer. The former minister is alleged to have manipulated rules to favour some telecom companies including Swan Telecom and Unitech Private Limited in allocation of spectrum at throwaway prices.
