Y Shorter Short Message

Recommended Posts

hi all,

according to the SMS Standards the message length is 160 charachters. but reliance is

can any body tell me why reliance has shortened the message length in THE LG 2230 handset. It's 140 characters. Due to this i am not able to get full length messages from any body(160 charachers).

Why this is done??????

Gary

hey gary, even the moonlight aka 2130 has the same problem ... and there's no solution  jacob got an upgrade but the message length remains the same (140) ... dont know why LG had to step down from the 160 to 140 count ... something fishy !!!

Well it might (and only might) be due to need for providing space for tags like *Urgent* *Emergency* and also for some details in case of MMS executing SMSes etc. But I don't know why it needs 20!

I have gone through some of the docs the sms standard says that sms uses 7 bit encoding of characters with a character length of 160, (I think there's no need to explain that algo here.) but i am very eager to know why LG has violated that standard.

Code, your explaination doesn't fit in this scenario cuz, the colored LG handset (sorry but i dont knw model num.) which i have seen supports 160 characters.

this topic needs some r&d..
