Problem Waking From Hibernation

Recommended Posts

Sys Configuration : Laptop Mobile PIV 1.8GHz, 256MB Ram, 30 GB HDD, etc

Operating System : Windows XP

Well I was using original USB cable for LG RD2030.... since it got bad.... I decided to buy a local one as it was cheap....

To my surprise... this one seemed to work very well... it cost me half the price.... and lo it was charging the mobile thru USB (original does not do it ... although reliance claims)

Local Cable Details on Device manager : Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge (COM4)

Coming to the real problem

When I put my laptop to hibernation mode with the cable connected to it, it does not recover properly from hibernation.... the hard disks seem to work... it displays loading screen ... then the screen goes off... and does not turn on whatsoever.... :help:

This problem occurs only with the USB cable plugged in while going into hibernate mode......

Note : The original Reliance cable (I was using earlier) did not have this problem at all

Please suggest solutions..... :help:

Hello harry,

The problem seems to be with your USB drivers.

A USB is a PNP device. So when a computer awakes from hibernation, it pokes the usb too to get its status. Now i think that because you installed your reliance drivers [usb - serial], They are interfering or not allowing the usb to report its status because of which XP shuts down. The problem is reliance drivers are interfering with your USB drivers. Try Reinstalling your USB drivers. That should solve your problem.

FOLLOWUP

Well it is quite clear what the problem is.... (Pretender please give a solution instead of just rephrasing the problem) :help:

Also I never said that XP shutsdown...... The Laptop shows it is restoring from hibernation (the status bar appears and completes)... then suddenly the screen goes off.... the HDD and the system are still running....

Finally I have to switch off the laptop(hard way)... Now when I restart it, I have to delete the hibernation record to start afresh... :help:

Hey harry, You must learn to read pal.

I did give you a solution to your problem.

Try Reinstalling your USB drivers. That should solve your problem.

If you tried that, tell me what happened, is the problem still appearing ?

hi there....

i have a similar problem problem...WITH MY DESKTOP...

local cable/xp sp2

gettin back from hibernation, system recovers & works fine xcept Rconnect gets hung (error 619,i think) - i have to reboot to get online again

im sorry hary i dont have the solution either, jus the problem ...

but both sp1 and sp2 are supposed to have a lotta fixes (including for problems in resumin from hibernation)

check these out...might shed some light

A full list of fixes in sp2 -

KB 811113 - List of fixes included in Windows XP Service Pack 2

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811113

if u dont want to install the full sp1/sp2, i guess u can search & install specific fixes. This one Q261643 seems to be close

Q261643 SP2 USB Specific Bug Fixes - USB Devices Missing in Device Manager After Computer Resumes from Hibernation

http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar...s/Q261/6/43.ASP

hope the info helps in some way....

PROBLEM STILL UNSOLVED

Well I need to thank you Seetha, for your valuable time... but the problem still remains

Firstly I am already using XP SP2.....

Secondly, the hotfix u mentioned for USB Bug fixes is for Windows 2000 and not Windows XP

I searched for other fixes and found some which were very close to my problem.

But it shows that they are already installed on my system as I am having XP SP2.

So the problem is still open.....

Seetha can u tell me the version of driver u are having?

Go to :

Device Manager->Ports->Prolific USB-to-Serial Bridge

Right Click->properties->Driver tab

Check Driver Version displayed... and please inform me

Hey harry,

Like karpar noted, i think this is a problem with the specific cable.

prolific uses its own driver. so Could be a bug with that driver too.

As for windows fixes, There were no USB related fixes after SP2 was released.

Also if you have automatic update turned on, It'll notify you as soon as a new fix is released.

Aaah...

So then it is a cable problem...

Or a problem with the drivers provided with the cable...
