My Long Rant About The Coolpad 2618

Recommended Posts

<rant>

I recently lost my trusty Nokia 6265 after using it for close to 4 years. I needed a phone really urgently. So I went to the nearest Reliance Webworld and asked for the Corby speed. That was unavailable, so I bought the Coolpad 2618. Got the UIM activated, went home.

After charging it, it was time to put some music on it.

Put in a 4 GB memory Card, plugged in the USB cable. Connected to the PC. PC detected. Inserted Driver CD. Installed.

CDMA Modem was installed. But no "Removable Disc connected"

Read the manual again. Sure enough, I had followed all the instructions to the T.

Checked the reliance website. My phone wasn't listed.

Googled for drivers. For an hour. Didn't find anything.

No site carried Coolpad drivers. I think to myself "Understandable, they're a new company".

Found the website. Their download section is limited to pdfs of user manuals. And drivers to some older models.

Called customer care. 8 times. 3 times, the apes on the other side were unable to understand my question and requested me to call again. 4 times, I was redirected to the reliance netconnect line. The last time, I spoke to a sweet lady who put me on hold for 15 minutes only to tell me that she can't help.

So I ask her "Is there a coolpad customer care line?". She says "No."

I ask her "Can you connect me to someone who can help?" She says "no."

So I hang up.

</rant>

Other gripes:

1. No MMS.

2. Bluetooth present, but not functional. It can't detect my other phone, or my PC. I can turn it on and off and change settings, but I can't use it.

3. Horrible instruction manual. If the information isn't badly outdated, it's written very badly - looks like they just used Google translate to translate from Chinese to English.

4. Camera clearly says 1.3 Megapixels. maximum resolution = 640x480. Liars!

And just to show I'm not a total jerk, here's what I like.

1. Responsive touchscreen.

2. Nice scratch-resistant rubber finish.

3. A very good looking phone, fine if you just want to call and SMS.

4. Nice big physical keys - works well with my chubby fingers.

Well can't be helped now. Would really appreciate if someone could guide me as to how:

I am supposed to use it in USB mode.

Can tell if I can install Opera Mini on it and access the internet.

There should be a caution note put on these chinese craps:

"Beware before you buy, some items listed in features may not be FUNCTIONAL. Please check with your seller. Don't break your head after you buy, mobile comapany will not be responsible for whatever happens then."

AFAIK, if within one week, you are not satisfied with the handset, you could have it exchanged or money refunded from the WW. Approach some higher ups and get your task done. I had my LG phone returned and money refunded in full after using the phone for close to 7 months.... Send strong emails to all concerned in RCOM and get your money refunded...All the Best....

Okay. This is slightly embarrassing. It just started working. On its own. I have no idea how. Anyway, have one question. Is there any way to access mobile internet on it? The phone doesn't have a built in browser. And I tried to install Opera Mini on it manually. Didn't work. Doesn't recognise either .jar or .jad files. Any suggestions?

all coolpad handsets comes with 1 year free replacement policy.. you can ask the Reliance World's Store Manager regarding this.. If he's unable to support, please speak to higher officials of Reliance.. am sure your handset will be replaced..

I'll second the refund/replace idea as well. When Coolpad initially came out with its dual-sim function, I was very skeptical, but was almost tempted to buy since a few of my friends were raving about it.

Thankfully, I stuck with my trusty old LG phone, though I'm looking to shift to a HTC handset for better functionality.

Except for the name, nothing is cool about this phone. My friend used this phone for a month and then the display simply went blank. WW guys told him to go to the service center and the SC guys said water had entered the phone and that the warranty had gone void. He had been using the phone carefully and vouched that there was no chance of water entering the phone. They simply stuck to their version of the problem. He finally dumped the phone for an LG 3600 and he lived happily ever after!! so live a fairy tale with LG/Samsung/ or any other phones on reliance.. stay away from Coolpad.. Get it if u want to live a nightmare..

Cheers!! :GirandoOjos:
