How to remove Phone.apk to improve battery life?

Recommended Posts

I have a Freescale IMX515 Tab running on android 2.2

65% of the battery is consumed by "cell standby" which is not required . When googled came across suggestions to remove "phone.apk" and "telephonyProvider.apk" to enhance the battery performance

rooted the device with "zroot" and installed "root explorer"

deleted / renamed / moved both "phone.apk" and "telephonyProvider.apk" from /system/app folder but alas !!! they re-appear no matter what i do with them.

Any suggestions to get rid of these two files are welcome.

Why don't you just turn off the radio i.e. switch to Airplane mode.

Thanks guys.

I managed to rename the two files by upgrading my root explorer to 2.13 (earlier it was 2.10). now no more they reappear.

Will it improve the battery ?............. Well thats a million dollar question.

Will answer it after few days of observation.

Yeah. Airplane mode switches off the radio, hence the lower battery consumption. And the OP has clearly mentioned that he does not need phone.

Anyways, his problem is now already solved.
