drali 6 Report post Posted October 9, 2005 can any one tell how much bandwith is consumed in voice chatting & normal chating in 1hour.i m doubtful about data metering of mtnl its showing 150MB in 3days without any big downloads. how much data is used while surfing(opening a web page).plz help me, i m a non techie person. thanx. It would be best to install something like DU meter (or any other equivalent software ...search the net for it) and check the usage at your end, if you are in doubt ...as it would be very difficult for any one to speculate on how much data is consumed by surfing/chatting as it varies widely depending on where you surf! Another way (but v combursome) would be to note down the data uploaded and downloaded as displayed by Windows, before disconnecting and checking it with MTNLs site. ashoksoft 83 Report post Posted October 9, 2005 Most of the online chat engines supporting voice today, uses 8bit encoding, so even if u are online for say 1 hr, the overall overhaul can be expected of about 5 - 10 MB. Text messaging takes hardly anybandwidth... so nothing much to be noted here... now consider that value, and compute the average number of hours u sit in front of the comp, online ? does it come to 150 MB in 3 days? well to be sure ... do what racoon had to say ... use a bandwidth monitor... that will ensure u can surely understand how much data has passed in/out of ur comp!
